The food here is pretty good, the decor is beautiful, and it's in a nice downtown location. As with most Thai restaurants, I have a favorite. It is either Pad Thai or Pad See Eew. Today I couldn't remember which I prefer, so I got both Chicken and Shrimp Pad Thai (no green onions) and Chicken Pad See Eew, and my mom got Shrimp Pad Thai. Now I know which I prefer, it's Pad See Eew from The Basil. The Pad See Eew noodles are tender and delicious, and the chicken is too. The flavor is great, and the amount of meat, broccoli, and carrots is perfect. They don't skimp on meat or load it with veggies. When there are too many carrots it seems like a filler to me. The Pad Thai is good, but the flavor is almost a little bit like ketchup, which is kind of strange. The chicken is delicious and tender, and the shrimp is deveined beautifully. Note: my Pad Thai, chicken and shrimp, came with lots of chicken and four shrimp. My mom's Pad Thai, shrimp, came with lots of shrimp and some tofu too. I've ordered the mango roll in the past, but I probably wouldn't get it again. Too bad they don't have a Shrimp Spring Roll. The prices are a dollar or two more than I would have expected, but I guess a downtown location has high rent. I would go here again. Edit: the cold, next day Pad Thai may have been even better than when it was fresh. Now I don't know which I prefer and I'm going to have a hard time choosing. read more

Delicious food! The calamari is all squid and no tentacles with a delicious dipping sauce and we tried the shrimp and chicken Pad That YUM! As well as the shrimp fried rice. I've been here a few times since the reopening of dine-in table service and pretty much I've resigned my self to the higher prices and just set my mind to enjoying the food and not thinking about how much it costs. I'll say, this food is best enjoyed served hot and plated beautiful right here at the restaurant. Take out, the food just loses something and cools off getting it home and the plating is not near as beautiful. This last time I was here for lunch with a friend who really wanted the Masaman Curry, which was offered only on the dinner menu, but the owner was so nice and fixed it for him despite it being lunch time, just charged the dinner price ($17.95 + $1.00 for rice). I had the most expensive lunch offering, the "Roast Duck Gravy", kinda weird name, but it was Thai marinated boneless roasted duck with Chinese sausage, served over steamed jasmine rice with gravy and sesame seeds. ($15.95). OMG! Was the Roast Duck Gravy GREAT! I was amazed there wasn't one bone at all in that dish, and the flavor of the sauce with the crispy duck was off this planet great! It's worth the price! Lunch is served with a daily soup and a small salad and won ton on the side. My friend's Masaman Curry, was just as he remembered, not too spicy and not too salty. It was fantastic and the size of the serving would normally feed 2 or 3 in a family style dinner. The tender slow cooked beef was perfect with the chunks of potato. My friend ate the whole thing! We visited Tahoe and decided to try this restaurant. The staff is extremely friendly and they go above & beyond to accomodate your requests. We ended up eating there couple of times because the food was so delicious!! We ordered chicken coconut soup, Hawaiian fried rice, Panang curry and chicken satay. Do mention the spice level you want. The quantity of the food was huge. I wish we could try the whole menu because of the specialties they were offering. De-li-cious!!!!! Simply put. Appetizers were fresh, lightly fried, but no "fry" after taste. A great spin on potstickers for sure!! A light tempura coating and two delicious sauces for dipping. The yellow curry was AMAZING with mangos!! Spicy cashew dish was very flavorful and fantastic! The server was quick and attentive but it was a bit hard to understand her. She didn't let us down. Her recommendations were top knotch All staff and guests wore masks and it was all very clean. Our meal was $58 which is reasonable for two entrees and two appetizers, and two drinks. We had leftovers as the portions are very generous! This was my husband's second Thai food experience and he left full and happy. We will definitely be back in future trips this way! read more

Wanting to try this place for some time. Trying to learn Thai food, they prepare there curries different than the methods of the Chinese, Japanese, Singaporean or east Indians. They a base of yellow, I think their mildest, green, with basil to sweeten it, and red, normally their hotter one. This restaurant also had a Penang curry which has coconut milk added, which I thought was a Malaysian style of curry. We ordered an assortment of dishes, a Penang curry with pork as the meat and a beef dish with pumpkin in a tamarind type sauce and a bland vegetable dish with pork, a prawn dish in yellow curry a sweet and sour dish which is something I wouldn't ever consider. The dishes had great presentation, but you know I don't care about the foo foo fluff if a dish does not stand up. The Penang curry with pork didn't meet my expectations, the dish used pork slices and was bland if not for the curry, I was expecting pork chunks and the pork slices could have stood some marinating, maybe that's the way it's prepared so I would have bastardized it and I thought the sauce was a little on the runny side, but the dish was spicy enough and had good flavor. The prawn dish with the yellow curry also had basil in it, the dish was yellow but lacked any flavor. The dish with tamarind sauce was tasty, to describe the dish is it tasted almost like a peanut sauce. Needless to say I did not try the sweet and sour dish. Interesting is all I can comment. Try it if you have a hankering for Thai food, but I still can't wrap my head around Thai cuisine. read more

We were in Tahoe for the weekend and decided to take a road trip to Carson City and just happened to drive past this place. It has amazing reviews so we decided to stop in and have dinner. Got seated quickly but they were super busy with to-go orders and the phone was ringing off the hoo and because of that we were certain that this place would be amazing. We started off with the tasty prawn crackers which were ok, but not amazing as other people have said. It came with 6 pieces and a nice sauce which we split. I ordered the spicy basil noodles with chicken and shrimp. I asked how different this is with comparison to pad Thai and the nice waitress, Bao, said it was a difference between night and day. It was good but it really resembled pad sa ew. It was served with bell peppers which was probably the only differing element between this and pad sa ew. My parents got the red chicken curry with steamed rice. The curry came with what looked like yellow zucchini but also could've been a big baby carrot which I've never seen served in curry before. It again was good but not amazing. The curry as a bit too much coconut milk to my taste. Overall 3/5. read more

We had lunch here today, and everything was delicious. Best thai iced tea we've had in a long, long time. We got a noodle dish, green curry shrimp, and stir fry. We loved how they asked how hot we wanted our spice level on a scale from 1-5. We like spicy, and there was definitely some heat and spicy flavor noted. Passing threw Carson city from the Bay Area. I know my Thai food, and this place is solid. It could be spicier but it was easily fixed with a side of Thai chilis and Sriracha hot sauce. If you're looking for anything vegan or vegetarian this is prob the only place you'll find with non meat options. I am not vegetarian, but was in Nevada a few days and I was craving veggies. Local cuisine tends to be fried and meat heavy around here. All dishes had tons of fresh veggies and lots of tofu options. If Pad Thai is a wet bowl of mushy noodles with nothing else whatsoever but flavorless chicken pieces, then this is it. Worst Thai food ever....go anywhere but here. Great place. The interior is very nice and clean. The people seemed to be very pleasant. We went for lunch and they offered us the lunch menu. Upon sitting down, they served up with complimentary soup (just OK) but can't complain. We ordered the penang curry with shrimp and the basil curry (im forgetting the exact name, but it had basil in the title :). Full disclosure, I've done a lot of traveling domestic and international (including Thailand multiple times). I'm not comparing it to super authentic dishes, but this place is good. I enjoyed the basil dish the penang had all the flavors but slightly different. Not different in a bad way, just different. Both dishes were served with rice, salad (the peanut sauce on the salad was good) and a fried wonton thing (was fresh). Good place to stop if in town and craving Thai. read more

It has been 5 years since my first visit and it did not disappoint. There are some places in Reno that have some good ratings but honestly this place beats them. Ordered to go for about 5 items and took about 30 minutes. Ordered Tom kai, spicy basil, panang curry, and papaya salad. All very good! I was craving Thai food, so Yelp recommended me this place, and I'm so glad it did! The interior is pretty quirky and traditional. Service was also good. Food was the best. I ordered the Topless Seafood ($17.95) because it was listed as one of the top dishes on Yelp. I usually go for a pad see ew or green curry, but I wanted to try something new & something you normally wouldn't see in another Thai restaurant, in regards to this presentation and name lol It came with a bowl of rice, and I scarfed it all down. SO good. It wasn't too salty either! I also ordered the mango sticky rice for dessert *heart eyes* the mango was so fresh and ripe & they gave you a considerable amount! The sticky rice was nice and warm, so amazing contrast & it tasted amazing with the coconut (?)-based sauce on top!! I had to specifically ask for it since I didn't see it on the menu. The older lady working said she'd go ask the kitchen to see if it was available, and thank God it was. One of my favorite lunch spots in Carson City! I am a HUGE fan of their yellow curry with chicken, as spicy as they'll make it! I can never finish it in one sitting because of how big the meal is. I don't typically enjoy leftovers, but you best believe I'm finishing this for dinner! The lunch special is $12.95 which is very reasonable. My orders are always to-go so I can't speak much for the service, but the food is ready for pick-up on time and it's always fresh. Based on a one time carry out, I'll be back. I was helping a friend do some painting and he ordered some pad Thai and a chicken yellow curry dish for us to have as we finished. Unbelievable piping hot food for carry out. The pad Thai is my usual Thai go to dish, and this was delicious but just a tad sweeter than other places serve. The yellow curry chicken dish- to die for !! The light coconut flavor with a subtle heat from a spice covering the tender chicken and fresh spinach- mmmm. And there was something about the rice, texture and flavor, I couldn't get enough of it either. Those two items will have me returning soon. Next time I'll order in.
