For dinner one night when my parents and I came to Oak Harbor to visit my grandma in early October 2022, we chose The BBQ Joint for the supplier of the protein of the meal. My grandma, dad, and I all went to the store to pick up the ribs after ordering them in advance. In addition to the rack of ribs, we got a container of the their BBQ sauce. The workers were friendly and it was simple and clear how to pick up the order. The interior decor matched the restaurant cuisine. Back at the house we kept the ribs warm in the oven until dinner time and they were finger-linking good when we sat down and ate. The meat was tender and not too fatty and the BBQ sauce flavorful. Fun family dinner experience.

Super friendly service. Clean, large area to eat with plenty of seating. Food was cooked very well with lots of flavor. Lots of sides, all were very good. Seemed pretty authentic to what we had in Texas also. Decent portion sizes and the price was pretty decent also.

One of the best things to do after you have an amazing time with your family is the sit down and enjoy some great food with the ones you love, and if you're in the mood for ribs, this is a great place to get them three different kinds of styles St. Louis, Texas and the third one I'm not quite sure but anyways the point is this place is amazing. It's so succulent in tender that it falls off of the phone and it's family owned.

Once again, I was STARVING, and felt like having some barbecue. I popped into the BBQ Joint for a two meat plate. I decided on Brisket and Spicy Sausage, with a double side of Jambalaya (never been a fan of macaroni or potato salad). For the meats, the spicy sausage was great, albeit greasy, and the brisket was okay. I came in early, so the brisket was still semi-moist, but I also received a thick part of the fat cap. The brisket lacked the smoke flavor that I crave when I have barbecue, specifically mesquite. When I have good brisket, I do expect a nice smoke ring, a great crust, and a moist center. For the sides, the jambalaya was good, but needed salt. It had a great tomato flavor, but the rice was quite overdone. I also ordered a cornbread, but it resembled more of a cake, than a bread, and it was rather tasteless. For price, I feel it was quite overpriced. The brisket added $2.00 to the total, but I only received one slice. I did have a great amount of sausage, and a decent sized side of jambalaya. The cornbread costed extra, at $1.29. The total, without tip, was $19.91. For a single person, I did feel it was pricey.

Easy parking in a strip mall. Booths & small & large tables accommodate a large family or small group. I brought my family here after a long walk around Fort Casey. This place is family friendly had helpful staff. Everyone liked the pulled pork sandwiches. The sides we tried were homemade honey cornbread, potato salad & baked beans. Everyone agrees that we would come back here again.

Why does this place have to be in oak harbor??? I need one by my house. I was on whidbey island visiting my grandma and craving bbq. I looked up a few places and decided to go with this one. I am so happy this is the one I chose. Normally I don't like macaroni from bbq places or most places honestly, because they're always either too dry and not creamy and bland or they're creamy but it's like velveeta and still bland or salty, idk exactly how to describe what I'm saying but it's always just such a let down. The macaroni here was some of the best macaroni I've ever had in my entire life. I'm just bummed that my sides were small cause I could've eaten a pound of it and I'm actually avoiding noodles right now but it looked so good I had to try it and I'm glad that I did. The pricing was also really great. I wasn't that pleased with the cornbread. It was a bit too dry for me. They have decent portions of meat! The portions for the sauce were a bit of a let down too, so if you like a good amount of sauce I suggest asking for extra and I suggest asking for bigger sides if you want more than the size in my photo (probably 4 ounces, the sauce cups are about 2.5 ounces) overall, the flavors and prices were all worth it and I highly recommend this place. There's a bbq place near by this one and it doesn't even compare to how good this one is, despite the good reviews of the other place

The best barbecue on the island! I went with a friend and we each got the pulled pork plate, which came with 2 sides and then we added the cornbread. The portions are pretty large and I even had some leftover to bring home. The pork was good and they gave us 2 different types of sauces (like a normal barbecue and then a vinegar based). The cornbread was super yummy (definitely recommend adding that on to your meal). Would definitely go back!

Food: Very good food. I ordered the brisket plate with creamed corn (brisket 9/10. Good flavor, good ring on it and flavorful + it wiggles which a good brisket slice should. Corn was pretty sweet but good). My only issue as a Southern spot it please include a slice of bread (white or texas toast + pickles with the meat plates.) the bbq is a homemade bbq sauce thats sooo darn good! Id buy a bottle or two! My wife ordered a brisket sandwich with fries and coleslaw. The brisket sandwhich was of course good with a buttery bun. The coleslaw (was lacking good flavor; not a fan personally). The fries were frozen fries and descent. We also had hush puppies; pretty good. Service: AMAZING service from Mia. Such a sweetheart and gem. She helped us make good picks from the menu. Ambiance: a very large building! When we went it was empty and during early day. Very clean, clean bathrooms and music playing. The look/feel gives more "country" vs southern. I was expecting to hear southern soul vibes on the music, and photos or items throughout that gave "southern bbq vibes". A dope touch would be dope photos of black or southern cowboys, and etc. lots of opportunity for a real down south vibe to be created. Overall- very pleased. I hope they have another 50+ years of business while stay true to their southern roots. Love love lovee

Affordable lunch burger and a beer? Yup. Fancy date night romantic dinner with craft cocktails? Heck yeah. Combining a casual, marine-themed ambiance with quaint La Conner vibes, and adding in some truly delish food and drink, there are few places in the area I'd rather eat. My favorite here is their bouillabaisse, with big pieces of fish, half a fresh Dungeness crab, sausage, and all the goodness cooked in their house-made broth. All I can say is: try it. Their raw oysters are also a favorite, but I can't say I've ever had a bad dish here. One time I swung out and tried their pork chop, which was truly sent from heaven. Their wine list contains several affordable options - on one visit our group enjoyed two bottles of an exquisite rose. And if gin is in your repertoire, don't miss the Empress Aviation which is not only pretty to look at, but quite tasty as well. Their happy hour features incredible drink and appy discounts, including half price bottles of wine. And I'd be remiss not to mention their friendly, lovely service. The vibes inside are immaculate as a kind of barnyard chic and the pizza topping combos are hyperlocal and fascinatingly unique you have to give them a try. Unfortunately my first time trying a pizza place must always be a simple cheese pizza so that's what I ended up with this time. The crust is cooked a little extra charred which can work well as long as the dough is moist enough, oiled well, and the pizza has enough flavor overall to balance it out. I wouldn't say that was the case here but I think there are many, particular NY/NJ/CT area folks who might prefer this style. Overall the pizza was just OK for me, a bit too dry from the extra cooktime/char and maybe dough hydration, the sauce not being as refreshing and bright as I like, the cheese as bursting with creamy milkiness as I want on these types of pies. But it still hits the spot and I'm happy I stopped here at such a cool little spot on such a great island. But for Whidbey Island pizza I'll probably stick with Village Pizzaria for now. Who knows, I didn't get to try the cocktails here so may need to come back for that. I did also get a smoked carrot dish that was a bit underwhelming for how cool it sounded, just a bit too much acid and fat without a lot of spice and flavor to balance everything out. Still may come back for the dinner-only pastas, I'm simply too intrigued by the chic menu recipes and chillaxing vibes here.
