The Beast was a little better than The Edge of Hell -- it was scarier, and the groups had more distance between them, which helped keep some of the suspense alive. The set designs were impressive, and a few moments actually delivered a decent scare. However, it was still extremely hot inside, which made the experience uncomfortable after just a few minutes. While the timing between groups was improved compared to The Edge of Hell, the overall organization still left a lot to be desired. For $69 (for two haunted houses), I expected a smoother, more professional setup and better crowd management. Although The Beast offered more thrills, it still didn't live up to the hype or the hefty price tag. As a permanent fixture of West Bottoms in Kansas City, honestly had high expectations when it was my first time attending this haunted house. I had this expectation due to them literally having 11 months to get it setup for perfection as isn't a fly by night haunted house attraction. At least they do use this to their advantage with a few, huge animatronics in the haunted house. Yet, unfortunately for this multi-leveled haunted house where VIP tickets are over $40.00 there are probably less than 10 actors through out the attraction. Also a goof portion of the haunted house is filed with mazes and of those mazes are literally pitch dark and black and you're just feeling around in the dark just trying to make it to the next portion. The highlight of the haunted house wasn't even a jump scare or a particular actor but the slide at the end and then being able to jump off the second story. Just make sure you follow instructions - so that you don't hurt yourself. For the price and the outside impression - definitely expected more. read more

So here we go we went online and booked the ticket we went with the family and friends probably around 10 people. We ended up going to the venue around 7 o'clock in the evening. We see this huge line and it literally it took us hour and a half to go to the main entrance,there were two counters, one for the online tickets and there was another line which said 'no tickets' it felt unfair that they let the new ticket buyers get into the experience faster than the people who bought tickets online. We literally were standing there for a long time and I don't think it's a great experience. You were kind of disappointed and ready to try some other place next time. read more

Classic KC haunted house. The wristband process was a bit confusing at first but after getting our bands and signing waivers it was great! The line wasn't super long and the house was very fun. The people around us were being rude using their phone flashlights and such but the staff addressed it perfectly. Don't be fooled that buying a ticket ahead of time or that the new "time slots" improve the wait time. You sign a waiver online when you buy your ticket but have to wait in line to sign another waiver and get a wristband when you arrive. People with and without tickets are in the same line and lines are wrapping around multiple blocks. So there's no benefit to buying your ticket ahead of time unless you purchase VIP. The "time slots" are very deceiving. Depending on the day and time you arrive, you will be in line for hours. read more

This was absolutely one of the scariest haunted house experiences that I have ever encountered. Carolina haunted houses have nothing on the Kansas City thriller.. The Beast! I was very happy to find out out that Eastern Missourans enjoy a nice scare. First and foremost, I certainly advise you buy your tickets before arriving. The line to get in is incredibly long, and it is very much so worth a few extra bucks to skip all this waiting. I really liked the fact that there were food vendors around on the corners of the streets (food trucks). This helps with the annoying wait time. But once you get inside, everything changes for the better. The actors working at the haunted house do an excellent job at keeping all of us on edge, but without scaring us too badly. I was certainly glad to experience such a wonderfully terrifying experience. The art installations were phenomenal, and designs were very authentic. Welp... just moved to KC from Omaha and was excited to see these "amazing west bottoms haunted houses" but honestly was completely underwhelmed. There was no timing/coordination to the groups so we were constantly surrounded by a ton of people. The number of people working inside was minimal which takes away from the experience because you can only rely so much on strobe lights and animitronics. Coming from Omaha, we definitely expected more of a bigger city but to be honest - even the smaller, more family friendly places in Omaha were much scarier. I hate to say that this was my worst experience in a haunted house ever and I've been to a lot. read more

Saturday night we came to the beast haunted attraction with a group of 3. $45 each per ticket which seemed somewhat reasonable. No mention on the website that parking is also $10. We arrived a little after 6:30pm and waited in line for over an hour. They had two actors outside who didn't really do much. The scenes inside the attraction were fantastic but it appeared they only had about 10 actors in the entire building and mainly relied on animatronics. They were allowing too many people in at a time cause groups to get jumbled together ruining the experience. It's really sad because this attraction has the ability to be pretty scary and an amazing sensory experience. If they only sold a limited number of tickets per night and had specific times for people to show up it would have been a much better experience. Also, most of the staff appeared irritated and just ready to be done. Unfortunately I don't think we will be back. read more

I wouldn't recommend this haunted house to kids, as some parts are pitch black and they may get really scared. This is especially important because it takes about 45 minutes to go through the entire house, so if the kid gets scared, there is one exit halfway or so, but other than that, you have to keep going through the house in order to exit. I went with 2 girlfriends and we made a train and held hands the entire time. If you like being scared, then I would definitely recommend The Beast. However, if warewolves chasing you or a fake chainsaw-welding maniac getting about 1 foot away from you and welding the chainsaw in your face, I wouldn't recommend going. One girl was already crying while we were waiting in line to buy tickets- I definitely wouldn't recommend going in if that could be you! The characters in the Beast can't break character and can't touch you, but they often get as close as they can. We did get lost in part of it, and had to repeatedly ask the Joker lookalike where to go before he finally answered us. Another thing I liked about the beast was the fact that they have police officers patroling the house at all times. A police officer actually walked behind us part of the time- I could totally understand this- I'm assuming crimes and assaults happen here all the time. After all, if you saw a guy 'bleeding' on the floor, wouldn't you just keep walking, assuming it's fake? Anyway, I didn't ever really feel threatened, but I don't know if my nervous system could take more than the 45 minutes it took to go completely through it. Anyway, it was a fun time. Look, The Beast is a little cheesy and not always scary, but as an out-of-towner looking for something unique, finding this bevy of haunted houses in an unexpected industrial part of KC was pretty fun. I enjoy that the haunted house takes awhile to get through and the slide near the end is really unique, although I wish it was a bit more slippery. We also ran into the rat man after the haunted house, which was quite an interesting experience. We got there at 6:30pm and they open at 7pm. The lines around both sides of the building were very, very long. It is expensive. We bought our tickets there and they were 29.00 each with no kids discounted price. We went into the warehouse at about 8pm , that is how long it took us to get through the line. We were in there a good 50 minutes. It was good, the people working inside do not touch you, there are some exhibits that jump out at you and they were good. There is a small maze inside and that was good. Lots of hallways, up and down and uneven floors, it is very dark inside, lots of stairs, with a slide at the end. I've been to this haunted house many times in my life and I have to say it has just gone down hill. I thought this would be frightening for kids (like when I was young) but a group of young girls told me it wasn't even scary. The majority of it was just tight mazes in complete darkness. A few of the workers did a good job jumping out to scare us but otherwise they would just kind of meander and then run up screaming in your face. Something I had not seen before was the choice to either exit from a 4 story slide or go down a 2 story and jump off a ledge onto a huge blow up cushion. Seemed cool and we were told when entering that we would have the choice to do it. However, when we arrived to that part of the house we were told we did not have a choice and where forced down the large slide. Which by the way, the room you end up in is now full of what looks like broken up packing styrofoam which you are then coated in and cannot get off. read more

There are about 10 actors throughout the whole place, so aside from the bottom tier special effects the house isn't scary at all. Whoa guys! Did you know that when it's not haunted house season that you can rent out the "Enchanted Forest" section for private parties? Neither did I! But after attending an event there a few weeks back, in my opinion it may be the most unique venue in all of KC. Entering from the East side of the building rather than the more-spooky doors to the North, you go through an old western town and then suddenly you're in a large room with massive real trees inside. Now typically these trees host creepy crawlies and werewolves, but for the right price, they'll exercise the demons and instead bring in a DJ, bars and a dance floor! It has a decent sized kitchen and bars for all your food and booze needs. Unfortunately, what it doesn't have is acceptable bathrooms. One stall each for ladies and gentlemen, for this particular event they had to put porta-johns outside. Not very classy in general, but when it's raining that's even more of a bummer. Less-than-ideal bathroom situation or not, I guarantee that if you throw a party here, your guests will be talking. I approve. read more

This is an old review that I never completed, and it's completely incongruous to any reviews of The Beast, because this was for The-Beast-As-Event-Venue not The-Beast-As-Haunted-House. Actually, the event space as beast is pretty neat. It's in the "forest" section of the haunted house, which during the Halloween season is difficult to see and traverse because the air is filled with smoke machine effects. Werewolves prowl around, jump out... blah blah blah. With all of the smoke clears out, the room is very spacious, and the trees and branches they have brought in to set the forest effect make for a nice decor. We were there for a Mardi Gras party, and the drinks were flowing, the music was thumping, and all was well. Well, all was mostly well. Problem #1 -- The Beast wasn't really designed as an event venue, and it doesn't have the bathroom capacity for a crowd. There were two little convenience bathrooms that would typically be used by the staff. Perhaps fine when you have 10-20 folks around, but not with a party of 400-600 people. There were some port-a-johns outside, but that's not exactly what you're after when you're at a fun party. But, the inexplicable item that sent the needle scratching across the record and drove us from the party ---- We were all having fun, dancing and drinking, and then the floor was apparently getting slippery and wet. Then it happened -- the staff wheeled out 55-gallon trash barrels of baby powder and began spreading it on the floor. This bears repeating -- the staff was spreading copious cupfuls of baby powder all over the floor. Baby powder. I watched as a employee dipped a cup into the barrel, pulled it out, and proceeded to shake baby powder all over the floor like he was making a cocaine rail for Jimmy Durante. After getting over the shock of what was going on (and coming to out of a bit of a drunk stupor) we left, but not before my shoes and the cuff of my suit pants were crusted with a baby powder sludge. So, cautionary tale, and I would hope that the handling for large events has changed since then. Also, the young people reading this will totally get a Jimmy Durante reference, right? read more

I recommend getting there around opening if you don't want to wait for a long time (or if you don't want to buy the pricier VIP tickets). This used to be a very fun and scary haunted house, and I didn't mind the maze at the top a few years ago but now they have added more mazes to the haunted house and all it does is just clogs up the traffic. I remember going 6 years ago and my group always had about 10 to 15 feet of space between us and the group behind me and in front of me. This means every group will get to experience the mechanical monsters that pop up. Now it's so packed that we are stuck in traffic and we hear the props coming out so it ruins the atmosphere. The theme for this place is now pitch black mazes and fake doors that confuse people. They still have the actors the come out and scare you and those are the best parts when a human actor plays their roll. They staff needs to figure out a new layout for this place. I went to the Edge of Hell and The Beast last night. Edge of Hell, awesome. They let you go in with your own group and experience everything first hand and didn't rush you. Only complaint I have is at the every end where you slide down one of the employees straight up chucked me whenever I tried to pick myself up. The Beast was the exact opposite! The Beast had sometimes up to FORTY people in one cramped, dark, and confusing maze. Everyone is constantly yelling at each other to move and it just ruins the experience when the 15 people ahead of you get the scary stuff first. It completely ruins the surprise whenever you're anticipating one. Some people actually had to turn on their phone lights so that they don't lose their group, although I normally don't approve of lights in a haunted house, this was an exception since they just wanted to find a way out of there as quick as possible. Too long, didn't read? * Up to 40-50 people all in one hallway/maze getting angry with each other constantly. * Employee drinks and food EVERYWHERE. * The maze, if that was what it was supposed to be was just too hard for everyone involved. Constant wrong turns with getting stuck because of the massive line behind you. My fiancé and I had our first weekend off since having a baby 9 months ago and came out Saturday night and basically spent our ENTIRE night waiting in a huge line which took us 3 hours to stand in after we bought our tickets ahead of time. When we got into the house, we did not get scared once as we were literally watching those in front of us getting scared. The guy with a chainsaw we stood and looked at, he was not scary. There didn't seem to be anyone working. We basically waited 3 hours just to wait in another line just to look at the scenery? I've lived in KC my whole life and it's never been this horrible. The Beast is the worst haunted house I have ever been to. I went with a few friends this past Saturday night and after waiting for 2.5 hours we were finally ushered into the house. The attraction was so crowded on the inside that none of the rooms were scary because we were just standing in a line the entire time we were in the house. Clearly, the people running the show cared more about ushering as many people through to make money than they did about the experience their guests received. Some of the actors even asked us if we were the last group to come through because they had been working for so long that night. I have never been to a haunted house where actors broke character, especially to ask if we were the last to come through. The Beast boasts that they have a live alligator inside the attraction. The alligator is in a pool of water less than twice the size he is. It's animal cruelty and it was extremely upsetting. I will never go back to this haunted house or any associated with it. I couldn't be more disappointed in the lack of humanity these people have. All they care about is making money at the expense of their guests. read more

Went tonight, weekend before halloween. Expected a large line to get in, which was the case; however, the staff did not control the pace of letting groups in. Got held up within the first 5 mins and it turned into just one long line through the whole thing - took about an hour and a half to complete at essentially a crawl pace the entire time. The end was just a large group of people standing in a very crowded room trying to get out. This is very concerning - if there was an emergency, especially a fire, a lot of people would get hurt. Plus there was very little actual people working, just all mechanical scares, and the staff that was supposed to be assisting at the end were very rude about letting people out the side door versus the slide. This is the absolute worst haunted house I have ever been to in my life! Didn't make me startle at all, I could count on two hands how many actors were in the building within the hour it took to go through it. Only thing it really felt like to me was walking in the dark. Me and ten of my friends rented a 12 person van, from Wichita Kansas to go to this waste of time and money, it took three hours to get there.
