I attended the second time for a tidy up - my hair has greatly improved and I have had many comments from friends about my new hairstyle. The salon will advise about the best products for coloured hair. I cannot recommend them highly enough - I live quite a distance away from the salon - the outside and interior caught my eye and I thought I should give them a go. I will return again and again even though there are other salons closer to me - I have tried them all in the past. 'Above the Fringe' is the best. Give them a try - you will be happy that you dfid.

What I didn't realise until I visited them recently is that they have therapy rooms both upstairs and down, making this business a pretty extensive one. Although baring the name of Errol Willy, it is actually a dual owned business, with the other partner, Sarvakis, who is featured in the pictures. Mr Sarva is quite a mild mannered but expressive man, who happily revealed a little bit of the background about the business, when we chatted on Monday last. Apparently Errol is very much into alternative therapies, and has consistently augmented the beauty therapies that have always been available since they opened, by inviting complimentary therapists to practice in the therapy rooms. Five weeks ago, an Auyurevedic therapist joined their clinic. Being from Kerala in India, she is the real deal, as this is where this form of medicine and treatment originates. They are not the cheapest place in town, but they are one of the most extravagant. A cut and blow dry will set you back £25.00 from a fully qualified junior hair stylist, and if you have your nails done at the same time you can expect to pay more... but it's still affordable, especially in view of how good they are! They are advertising for an apprentice to join them... this is great news for someone who probably hasn't got that many other options at the moment, with there being so few jobs open to people in their early twenties and teens... this recession has a lot to answer for!

However, last Saturday I went along with my sister as both of us were in dire need of a good haircut and am now quite a fan of this salon. The staff were all very friendly, I got my hair washed straight away, then a lovely cup of tea arrived by my side and in a jiffy, a senior stylist was talking to me about what I wanted. She was fab - friendly and chatty and letting me know what she was doing the whole time. She even reminded me about my cup of tea and asked if I wanted her to stop cutting for a minute so that I could have a sip! The cut and blow dry cost £35, which I consider to be very reasonable when you compare it with prices charged by comparable salons. My sister also had a great experience and her cut with a junior stylist cost £23 ish. We'll both be going back, for sure.

I was therefore very pleased when I heard that John Lewis in Cardiff would be selling Kiehl's products. The staff at the Kiehl's counter are always helpful & provide good service. Their products aren't cheap, but good quality. I regularly pop in to John Lewis when I need something and enjoy sampling new items when they are launched. Their men's line is fab; "Facial Fuel" face wash, exfoliant & anti-wrinkle cream are my staples. I also like the shampoos & "Stylist Series" products, body cleansers & the new "Cross Terrain" range. Would recommend this store for a good shopping experience.

It was cheap (£7) and I got what I paid for, well actually I didn't, it was overpriced by £6.50. I'm going to go to a proper salon in town on Monday and hope they can rescue it somehow so in the end it will have cost me more than if I'd gone somewhere decent in the first place. I got the no fuss hairstyle I wanted and it was pretty cheap, I paid less than £30 and was very happy. Better still if your a student you 20% off on certain days so thats very reasonable.

Toni and Hannah at Creation Ltd have focussed their business in a different way. They essentially cut peoples hair from all walks of life, with the only prerquisite beingtthat they want to look good at the end of it! Prices are really reasonable, especially considering the standard of hairdressing that you get here. The décor is modern and pleasant and the equipment they use is pretty cutting edge. This is the hairdressers that I've been using for a number of years. It's a family run business -…read morethe father works here on a number of days, and the manager is his daughter Kim. All the staff are exceptionally friendly and well trained. Kim does my hair and she's a great hairdresser. They've recently renovated and extended the premises, and it's modern and welcoming. They've also added a beauty salon upstairs, which also has sunbeds. It's a good idea to book, but you can normally get an appointment at short notice - unless it's close to Christmas!

What can I say other than: "I wish I found this place sooner!"…read more Don't be put off by how cool the decor and indeed the barbers look. Your experience will be both friendly and professional. But let's get down to what's important. The cut. The fade. The attention to detail. I can happily report all of the above are excellent. A common misconception of other so called barbers is that short hair is short to cut. Of course the reality is the opposite. If a haircut is less than 30mins then something is missing. My cut at Capello's was about 45 and was fantastic. It's a first come first served situation and there didn't appear to be any sinks for hair washes but they use the Turkish choaker method which lets minimal hair down the collar. Also I'd have to say there was very little residual hair anywhere when I left. Of course everyone is different and has their preferences but as someone that gets their hair cut every 3-4 weeks - all over the western world - I have to say this place is one of the best I've been to.
