I have been a customer here for years, I think I've been around 15 times and I have never had a bad meal. My go to is the black bean burger, which is absolutely to die for. I have even bought their retail dressing which they use for their greens because it's just that good. After an 8 mile ride on the East Bay bike path I love sitting outside at the Beehive enjoying a weekend brunch. The coffee is stellar, and the food is perfect. This week we had the breakfast sandwich and the lemon cornmeal cakes. Make sure you find your seat first then send someone in to order. They get very busy and make everything fresh so don't be in a rush, sit back, relax and take in the fresh air of Bristol. I always eat so much that it takes me so much longer to get home from the Beehive than it does heading to the Beehive! read more

This tiny delight of a place is somewhere I like to try and get back to every time I am around my Alma Mater, Roger Williams University, which is located in the same town. It is nestled away on a side street in historic Bristol, and we honestly accidentally missed it the first time we came through. It is not a large place, but it's small size is made up for in the feeling of coziness. The first time I went, I sat downstairs for breakfast and had a brioche pocket (with eggs and cheese and veggies) that was one of the most delicious breakfasts I've ever had. It was savory and warm and just good. The second time I came for dinner, and I honestly can't remember what I had but I remember thinking it was amazing. I was also then [teasingly] goaded by the waiter and my friends to eat the last of my friend's sweet potato gnocchi in a sage cream sauce (which she loved but being a tiny person she could not finish) which I had been stealing bites of throughout dinner because it was so unbelievably good. That meal was the reason I started trying to eat sweet potatoes again after a lifetime of not liking them. That's saying something. Outside of actual meals they have a modest but delicious selection of bakery goods, desserts, and a great array of beverages (teas, coffees, etc). I can't think of a better way to start a warm day in Bristol than stopping into the Beehive for a tasty breakfast or brunch followed by a walk along the water. Overall: If you're a RWU student or just someone visiting town, go here. It's a little small and if it's crowded you might have to wait, but if you want a meal with fresh ingredients, unique options, and food radiating with warmth and passion, then this is the place for you. read more

Everytime i have friends visit bristol I bring them here. I adore the polenta and the salmon plate some times the polenta can be mushers. I always ask for it well done. The almond cake, hash browns, turn overs and mimosas are great! You can't go wrong. I did not give it the 5stars the place deserves because one counter girl (they hire young people which i like) that i wanted to reach over the counter and show her my right hand. I had asked if the salmon was smoked or cooked (there were no menus left i had overheard someone mention the salmon plate) i have been a server/ bartender for close to 20 years on the cape where service is how we literally make our rent. So anyway, her response was (in an elitist tone) " i don't know, ughh (Napoleon dynamite sigh) I'm a vegetarian" i said "no hunn you are a vegan and, i dont remember asking if you ate fish, do you know the menu or not?" She said she would have to find out she walked in the kitchen and 3 mins later i left. Im not bitchy but my pet peeve is shit service. All I can say about this place is I wish they would open up a location near my home in New Jersey. This natural, organic place has some of the tastiest food around. I have had their breakfast sandwich which comes with a choice of greens or fried chickpeas (these are amazing). Also, the lunches I've had were all good, like the veggie burger and chicken sandwich. They get everything from local farms which is a great thing to support and you know it's all fresh. Beautiful gardens outside and nice to sit out there when weather is good. Seems a lot of local people frequent this place which is nice. Homemade granola bars are to die for! read more

The Beehive Cafe probably goes down as my all time favorite restaurant in RI. In my 4 years in the area I've tried just about everything on the menu and have never had a bad experience. Favorites include their giant omelettes stuffed to your liking with anything from sausage to avocado, or the grilled cheeses with pesto and bacon. You've got to choose the roasted chick peas as your side! They also have the best gourmet coffee to pair with your meal. My friend and I just went to their restaurant week dinner special and it was the most enjoyable night! 3 courses for $30. I got the hot flat bread with ricotta dip, scallops with sweet potato risotto, and finished off with an apple cobbler. Our waitress Brianna was outstanding and so sweet. The grilled cheese with apple is obscenely good and the mixed iced tea drinks are so refreshing. Coffee, smoothies, muffins, scones, sandwiches, hot dinners, soup, salad, cakes, tea and more. Local produce as much as possible and friendly service all the time are what make the Beehive a favorite for me. My fiancé and I went to the Beehive Cafe two weeks ago after walking around Colt State Park. We easily found street parking even though beautiful Bristol was busy. I really like that they clearly mark which items on the menu are vegetarian; I always trust restaurants more when they do that, and that way I can avoid asking some poor server 39 questions. Their baked goods looked delicious, and I think I recall seeing gluten free options on their menu. You place your order downstairs, receive your toy animal to put on your table, and then try your best to find a table. There is a bit of outside seating, and there definitely wasn't enough indoor seating. This place would not be a good choice if someone in your party has a mobility impairment as the majority of seating is upstairs. He ordered the smoked salmon platter. The platter was a bit short on salmon but had plenty of lettuce, tomatoes, capers, onions, etc. I ordered a vegetarian breakfast sandwich with arugula that I really enjoyed. The breakfast potatoes were a bit burned and bland, but it didn't matter because I loved the sandwich with the pretzel bun so much. Next time, I'll get a side of fruit. I also ordered a cup of minestrone soup. It was decent, but not what I was expecting. It was nearly 50% chickpeas. After eating the sandwich I was full so I took the soup home and ended up throwing it away. The staff were all very lovely and I will definitely go back for the breakfast sandwich the next time I'm in Bristol!! read more

Alright, honestly... I haven't had a drink here that I've LOVED. I don't know what it is, I mean it's all fine and dandy but nothing stands out to me. Their food menu is great - it changes depending on what they have fresh, they get most things locally and it's all made in house for your order. A bit pricey for a sandwich... but I guess you're also paying for the presentation. I follow them on Twitter and the owner is always posting pics of what they have new & fresh that day and it makes me want to hurry over there. They seem to have something different to offer every day. Very very cute quaint ambience. When you first walk in, it's a bit claustrophobic with only one or two tables right there by the window and not much room at all if there's a line forming. But take the stairs right there on your left and the upstairs is spacious, comfortable and very much like a "home" atmosphere. Like you're in a living room rather than a shop. My favorite is their upper outside deck. It only has about three tables there but it is SO nice to sit in the breeze and look out at the ocean. I went there on the 4th of July, the owner was super sweet & accommodating to let us sit on their upper deck while the fireworks went off over the trees down the street... it's definitely a memory I've taken with me. I go for the atmosphere rather than the drinks, but on a nice weekend morning sometimes that's all I need. read more

It's small but that is not a negative. 4 maybe 5 people at the most are going to be able to sit together. I got the blue cheese burger and it was awesome. The meat was perfectly seasoned and had the right amount of saltiness. The side of chickpeas that came with the meal were so delicious that my wife and kids tried to steal them! My wife got the pork burger that was on special, and it was one of the most delicious burgers she'd ever had. Juicy and tender, but with an interesting flavor combination with grilled queso fresco, pickled red onion, arugula, and chutney. The beehive is one of those little spots that you just love to have within walking distance. I walk from work to enjoy their delicious sandwiches and soups in a cozy atmosphere. Perfect to bring a book or to enjoy lunch or a snack with a friend. The tomato soup is SO good, as is their chicken sandwiches. Still want to try it for dinner - I hear they now have a liquor license. The upstairs deck is cute and has a water view. Beehive cafe is SUPER cute! I love hipster type breakfast/coffee places and Beehive totally fits the bill. The biggest cons of the place are that it's pretty small and seating is limited. There are a few outdoor seats in front and on the roof but those were all taken the two days we were there and we never got to eat outside. The line gets really long to order and the first day we were there it was out the door. With the builiding being old and small it gets pretty tight. Now for the pros...the FOOD (and coffee). First the pastires all look amazing. They have muffins, cinnamon rolls, and homemade donuts! I was dying to try a donut but decided to share a cinnamon bun instead. I bet the donuts are fantastic as well though. The first morning for breakfast I actually got the grilled cheese sandwich. It's made with vermont cheddar and then there is a whole list of stuff you can add to it, and I chose to add avocado. The toast was crispy and just a tiny bit greasy and the cheese and avocado were melty to perfection. It also came with a side of dressed greens so I felt at least a little healthy :) The second day for breakfast I got an egg white omelette with the cheddar and avocado combo again. I also got one of their specialty drinks that was iced green tea, lime, and some simple syrup. So different and refreshing. Wish I could eat breakfast here every day :) read more

The food is decent,I got a butternut squash sandwich with salad. I originally wanted a table but it was pretty busy and the upstairs had people waiting and it felt strange to stand there watching people eat while I waited for an open table with everyone else, I went back down stairs and asked for the food to go, and awkwardly waited till it was ready, sort of in the door way area moving to each side as others reached for the menu and got in line for their order, eventually the wait line was so long and crowded it was beyond the entrance. Every customer who wanted a table presented their concern for lack of seating ,the servers simply told them that a table would open up soon. Had a truly disheartening experience at Beehive during out latest (and last ever) visit. My girlfriend ordered a black bean fritter (an egg/breakfast dish) and was brought a black bean burger. Truly not a big deal under normal circumstances. It was the handling of the situation that truly blew my mind. When we notified the waitress, who was also the person that had taken our order at the counter, we were very polite and casual and stated we understand how such a mix up could occur so easily. She said she had thought she ordered the black bean burger, and then proceeded to try to convince my girlfriend to just eat the mistake since it would take a really long time to make her the right dish. We asked if she could check with her manager and she went downstairs to do so. When she came back, she offered a solution in the form of bringing her an egg, since it's "basically the same thing/made out of the same stuff." I said "can't you just push the ticket to the front of the line and get her the dish she wanted?" the server said "we don't really work like that," laughed in our faces- literally laughed in our faces, and walked away. At this point I was quite furious and just kind of shocked. I took the dish downstairs and asked to speak to the manager. I politely began to explain the situation and she immediately cut me off and became combative, and said "I was standing right there when she ordered and she ordered the black bean burger and we read it back to her." For the record, she was standing behind the counter at the espresso machine making a drink when we ordered. I said "well it's not what she wanted, so can you just refund us." She rolled her eyes as she threw the meal out and refunded the cost of the burger. She said she was "really sorry." Really? Really sorry? Really sorry would have made the dish we wanted REGARDLESS of whether or not she did or did not say "fritter." Really sorry would have had the basic management skills to know that this simple problem could have been solved in 4 minutes by making the right dish. Really sorry doesn't argue with a customer and blame them for the screw up. Seriously, this was a whole new level of how not to treat a customer. We liked this place a lot, and we chose to bring a guest from out of town here instead of all the other places in Bristol. Instead of enjoying her meal, my girlfriend got to sit and watch us eat and pick at the side of fruit she had ordered, and be made to feel like a moron for not catching it when they read our order back to us. Black bean burger was awesome, if your vegan however you need to tell them no cheese. Apparently the cheese is automatic, even though on the menu it was stated as VE for vegan. Also get the chickpeas as a side if you have kids. My 2 year old loved the chickpeas. There is also a grass fed beef burger! A nice little surprise tucked away on a side street in Bristol. Super casual and relaxed - but expect to wait in line at usual busy times - especially brunch on weekends. But - worth the wait! The seat yourself setting makes larger parties a bit more of a challenge - but things ease up if its nice enough to sit outside. A very pleasant escape from the usual eggs toast and coffee brunch. It was difficult for us to decide what to choose. The bacon & maple pancakes were amazing, as was the squash and cornbread hash - both very tasty and creative twists on breakfast standards. Very good portions and high quality ingredients across the board. The coffee was also especially good - nice and strong. I absolutely LOVE the Beehive Cafe! All of the food I have had there is excellent. As good as it is, I feel that it is still a little pricey. If I were getting organic food, then I would be happy to pay for that extra cost. The place is on the small side, though every time I have gone there, I haven't had a problem finding a seat. We did get take out there one time and took it across the street, sat under a shady tree, and enjoyed the beautiful day and view of the river. That day the service was very slow, but worth the wait. I had no where to be, so it was fine. Had I wanted it for lunch during work, I probably would have been a little more upset about the time...it was a long wait. Anyway, overall I give it 4 stars. I am a vegetarian and they have a lot of unique options for me. I've gotten something new every time I have been there and they have yet to disappoint. read more

Two words...COLD BREW! It's the Beehives strongest iced brew it absolutely phenomenal. Although expensive at $4 for a large, my fiancé and I do not think twice about buying one cause they are so good. The food is also very delicious and creative. My only complaint is that it can sometimes take a while just to get your order I if they are busy...you might be the 4th person in line and you can be waiting for 20 minutes to order a coffee. Not fancy just excellent vibrant foods. Food earns five stars but restaurants "procedure" was confusing and awkward . You order your food at the counter and are automatically asked to add gratuity. I LOVE Beehive Cafe! Lovely atmosphere, fresh food, wonderful staff. Although I'm on a college budget, sometimes I'll stop by and get a latte and maybe some lemon tea bread. I've had breakfast here twice. The first time I ordered the french toast and it was FABULOUS -- big slabs of bread, not over-done with the egg, and perfectly sweet. Real maple syrup, too -- and for $6. Not bad at all. Plus, I didn't feel disgusting after I ate it. I got the Rhody egg sandwich the second time and it was incredible. When they brought it out I was like, HOLY #*$T that's huge! And beautiful! The bread is fantastic and they load it up with two eggs, Vermont cheddar cheese, arugula, and tomato. You choose either fried chick peas (WICKED good) or fruit for the side. $8 and you're full for like, 4 hours. The $2 dressed greens are delicious. For dinner last time I ordered the black bean burger -- it was a LITTLE too crumbly for me, but it tasted great. I had the tomato-basil soup on the side -- basic and tasty. My dad got the flatiron steak tartine and he said it was excellent and my mom ordered the baked four cheese penne (grown-up mac & cheese). It was so creamy and rich. Yum The best part is that when I was having dinner there with my parents, they gave me a free slice of chocolate cake for my birthday. I love this place!! read more
