Chicken patty with scrambled eggs - 3/5, chicken patty tasted alright and was topped with gravy that added some flavor. The hash browns are pretty bad and the eggs were eggs. Swedish pancake - 2/5, scrambled eggs and ham wrapped with a swedish pancake. Nothing impressive. Eggs were overcooked, not fluffy like the menu says at all! Waffle with pecans - 3/5, waffle was a waffle, nothing special. My dad liked the pecans though, so stars for that. Eggs benedict (with corned beef?) - 2/5, not the greatest. Aside from the food, the lady who was sitting tables was quite rude. My sister had a faulty laptop and only needed a minute to plug it into the wall to turn on. We were seated outside and there were 2 empty tables next to some outlets. One table was ready for seating, the other was waiting to be cleaned. Now, I understand that you need to seat the parties and that cables would be a hazard. However, we calmly explained that we only needed the outlet for 1 minute then we would leave. That area was empty for a while. The lady kept telling us we needed to leave without even listening and glaring at us. Honestly, I'd rather pass Solvang and eat lunch at Santa Barbara. Terrible service and terrible food, if you consider a folded over omelette the size of a small napkin with an entire green chile inside, so hard to chew and cut, appetizing then this is your place. I asked for fruit instead of hash browns, which was a tiny sample cup of cut up brown bananas and a few strawberries. Zero danish or baked goods are served here either. Very expensive for the very small, very bland and sad food I was served after driving a few hours to visit solvang. Pass this place up and try something more authentic. read more

I found a small place away from the sun to wait and in a very rude and loud way she told me to move. I moved to another place and she came again and kicked me out. We came here for breakfast while visiting Solvang. We really enjoyed our meal and the service was wonderful. When you order tea, they give you a tea pot and often refill the tea. The crepes were delicate and fluffy. We got the crepe naturale and the crepe Normandy. My party of 8 visited Solvang for Mother's Day and the Belgian cafe was the perfect breakfast/brunch place! There is parking available all around so that was not an issue. The staff were all dressed in rustic European wear and our server was very bubbly and friendly. She was awesome! Because it was Mother's Day there was a decent wait and we were sat outside because the inside was completely full, but the outside seating was fine and the weather was beautiful. My girlfriend and I ordered the: Fried chicken steak with gravy, hash browns, eggs, and a biscuit. The Stars and Stripes waffles with blueberries, strawberries, whipped cream, and syrup. Do not spend your money here. As many others have mentioned, the people who work here are unbelievably rude. I don't just mean the kind of "bad service" that leaves you unsatisfied. I'm talking "bad service" in the sense that they are pointedly impolite and inattentive in a way that is offensive. We had breakfast there at 8:30 AM on a rainy Tuesday morning in March. I am not exaggerating when I say that we were the ONLY people seated at any of the tables. Completely empty other than me, my wife, and our 7-month-old son in a stroller. They sat us by the window. Everything is good so far. 10 minutes later, another family of 5 walks in. The hostess seats them at quite literally the only table next to us. Again, entire restaurant is empty. A little annoying, but maybe it's easier for the staff this way. No biggie. But then one of the kids at that table starts sneezing. And sneezing. And sneezing. I thought, "Ok. The entire place is empty. Maybe we can ask them to move us to one of the 10 other tables to maybe increase the chances that our 7-month-old will dodge whatever bug is giving this kid a sneeze attack." I walk to the hostess and very apologetically ask for a favor. "Is there any way we could try switching to another table?" Her response: "No, it's because of your stroller." I have no idea what this response is meant to imply. There are quite literally 5 other empty tables where our stroller would be completely out of everyone's way in the exact same way as the table we were seated at. I leaned in and said in friendly confidence, "I'm so sorry. I know. It's just that the boy at the table next to us is sneezing a lot, and I want to avoid our baby getting sick." Her response: "Let me see what I can do for you." I turned around and walked through the complete ghost town of a restaurant to wait for her to choose our new table. "You can go ahead and take that one," she says, calling to us from across the restaurant. Great. We start gathering all the items from the table to transfer them over. Our mugs of coffee, some water they brought us, and our own possessions (including, again, a literal infant). As we get settled in, the hostess barks at us, "And your table settings." And our table settings? You guessed it. She is instructing us to get up and go fetch our table settings. You have to understand. This whole time, her demeanor has been hostile and irritable. She did not like that we made the request to move 10 feet over in a completely empty restaurant. This was making us uncomfortable. I exchanged a look with my wife, and I was in the middle of telling her that we should just leave when the waitress set our meals down in front of us. Before we even had a chance to stand to follow the hostess' command to fetch our utensils, the waitress, who had not overheard the exchange, brought us fresh utensils herself. Ok, finally over, right? Nope. The hostess is audibly irritated. She starts barking at the busboy, "No. They [meaning me and my wife] touched them [meaning the utensils]." The hostess collects our utensils (which, by the way, were still tightly wrapped in napkins and completely untouched, but I won't dispute a good policy of erring on the side of cleanliness) and starts slamming them one by one into the plastic bin meant for dirty dishes. At this point, I'm more confused than anything by such a strong reaction to such a minor request. To add insult to injury, though, after this little ordeal, no one ever came even once to our table--again, one of only TWO occupied tables in the entire establishment--to check on us. We had to flag them down multiple times, including to request the check at the end of the meal. Do not spend your money at a restaurant that resents its clients as much as this one does. The staff is hostile and rude. One of the worst experiences I've ever had at a restaurant. read more

Not ideal for a big party. To reduce wait time, we split our parties (7 people) into two groups. This is not an issue however as my family did not mind splitting up. The service, however, was very disappointing. Once we were seated nobody checked in on us. I'm normally a very shy person and don't like pestering staff. But after waiting 20 minutes, I had to ask 3 different staff members (the manager being the 3rd person) for someone to take our order. By this time, my family in the other table had already gotten their orders taken well before us. Our order was taken eventually and when we got our order, we didn't hear back from our server again. I had to ask twice from different staff members for steak sauce. The food was very disappointing. I asked for a medium steak but got well done. Two words: Banana Supreme!! In our opinion, banana supreme and their danish sausage were the best! The Banana Supreme was what brought my review for this place up to 3 stars overall. I would rate 5/5 for it and the Danish sausage, 1/5 for Hostess service, 5/5 to table service. Like some other Yelpers mentioned, the Host of this place is a bit bizarre.. We had a party of 5 adults, 2 big dogs and 2 small dogs. We asked for outdoor and Hostess #1 said it will be 20 minutes. There were no place for all of our party to wait close by so everyone except me walked around the corner and I was standing right outside waiting for the call. 30 mins went by and still nothing,.. I asked Hostess #1 when will our table ready, that was when Hostess #2 came out of nowhere and asked for the name, I pointed out our name on the sheet (they spelled it wrong). Hostess #2 said is everyone here? I said, everyone was here but there was no room so they're just around the corner, but everyone is here. She said, no, I can't check to see what's available until EVERYONE IS HERE. I said, everyone is around here... but okay, I called and they came over right away, so she said, okay let me check what's available. I already pointed out the two small square tables next to each other outside. She came over to seat us 4 grown adults in a smaller square table in the shade, with our 4 dogs. She came over with a 5th indoor chair and we were like, can we combine these two tables together? She said, no I cannot block the walk way. The two tables were nowhere near the walk way. We said, we can just move the one on the inside to the one near the outside (near sidewalk). She said no. My friend said, we are hungry and will order a lot, are you sure this table will fit all 5+ big plates? She thought about it and said okay fine if you want to combine. But let me do it. We tried to help her and before we even could touch the table, she said STOP! DO NOT touch, I have to make sure it does not block the walk way. Sigh... so bizarre... obviously there was misunderstanding here but we were not given opportunity to explain to her. But after reading some other Yelpers reviews, I think were were PRETTY LUCKY to even got our way of getting 2 small tables combined outside! Gosh, we are paying and paying for service but we felt like we are bothering everyone and their mamas for trying to put the tables together ourselves. Anyway, the way it was handled was so rude and awkward that I was ready to draft a ONE STAR review for this place but, our table service waitresses (2 different ones) and the food, saved them! I think if you can get past the nightmare of dealing with the hostesses, everything was going uphill from there. Food was delicious, no anywhere had I ever had such a yummy Banana waffles! And their side sausage was big and not salty at all! So good! I"m still thinking of the Banana Supreme..... It was packed with everyone. I was debating savory or sweet because I'm not a sweet person, and it was lunch time. But I bit my tongue and threw my diet down the drain like the hostess service and went with my choice and I was so glad I did. The Belgian Cafe, was our first stop after arriving at Solvang. Access is pretty easy, with plenty of parking available. We seat outside since the AC was broken and inside was kinda hot. We went to Paula's Pancake House but they were really busy. We were referred to The Belgian Cafe; same owner but no pancakes. The power went out so we had to wait a bit. I am soooooo glad we did. The waffles were scrumptious. Hash browns were excellent. First time having the danish sausage and it was really good. Fresh squeezed orange juice was on point. Stopped by for a quick brunch here before we head to to the trolley tour and it was great! This place has some delicious options for breakfast and brunch and was less crowded than the others so we got a table quickly. For the order, we had a California Special Omelettes, Vegetarian Sandwich, a two egg white Omelette with veggies, orange juice and coffee. All the food arrived quickly and the omelettes were amazing. The fries however had more oil than we would like. My kid loved the orange juice and could easily gulp down another. It was freshly squeezed and tasted great. They do accept modifications to any order and they made the customization really well. We would definitely go back to them when we are in the area. The staff are really nice and personable here where it feels almost as if you're a local. When my husband and I come to Solvang for a quick getaway weekend we always come here for breakfast. We've tried other spots but we always come back here! The restaurant: It's a small and quaint cafe. The breakfasts are very delicious and so is the coffee! I keep getting refills while I'm eating. Yes it's that good! The waiter: The waitstaff are very nice and attentive. They make sure you have everything you need and make sure your glass or cup is always full. The drinks: I had a regular coffee and my husband had a Diet Coke. Our drinks were always filled. The main course: The breakfasts are delicious!! I either get an omelette or fried eggs with sausage link! They all come with hash browns but today I opted for cottage cheese since I'm on a diet but you can get sliced tomatoes too if you don't want either hash browns nor cottage cheese. I also love their Belgium waffles! When I'm not on a diet I always get mine with maple syrup and butter. I'm a simple kind of gal! It's a place to rest and relax. Coffee house cafe type environment. Good fast service foods. It was never my favorite spot in town, but they do have wide menu selections. I come here to enjoy the cute decoratives. It's more of a quick and convenient place to dine in at when all other options are busy and packed. Business has picked up after pandemic years. Come early and it's empty or quiet. They can do better with room for improvement, but you can feel it's just old town tradition old breakfast culture. Nothing fancy or unique. You can still find something tasty here, but for my tastebuds, it's just average foods here. Great for older folks maybe. I would have to revisit to try other items at different times.
