Very much enjoyed getting ice cream at The Bent Spoon. As promised it was both absolutely packed and equally as delicious. With a name like "The Bent Spoon" , it implies that the ice cream is so creamy, thick, and cold that the spoon will bend upon scooping it. While my spoon didn't literally bend, what we appreciated was how creamy, smooth, and think the ice cream was. You don't really need more than 1-2 scoops because of how rich the flavors are. Both the peanut butter and mint chocolate chip flavors were delightful and I'll have to go back and try out some of their more daring flavors like ricotta. Definitely recommend! read more

Have been here a few times and will always give a 5 star review even if there is a line out of the door. There is street parking around, just a matter of getting lucky with a good spot. There are small tables and benches around as well to sit around and enjoy your ice cream (or in my most recent case, hot chocolate). I love that they have vegan flavors as well as regular as my boyfriend needs vegan options. I had the hot chocolate with the fire roasted marshmallows this time around it was so SO GOOD. I can see why there are so many great reviews of this place. By the time I got there so many flavors were sold out. Anyways, you need to take a number to order so there isn't a line that you need to wait on. I decided to order organic blood orange and organic cookies and cream scoops. Everyone around was ordering the banana whip which made me curious, but I stuck with what I wanted and glad that I did. I really liked the blood orange flavor for the taste of it which was so yummy. It was really sweet, but had a good citrus flavor. I would suggest it. The cookies and cream flavor had a bit of a coconut flavoring added to it. I suggest it if you're into coconut. I came on a weekday in the afternoon and this place was bustling with people. I decided to get the coconut and hazelnut ice cream. The coconut was so creamy I loved it so much. It wasn't too sweet and had the right amount of coconut. The hazelnut was good when I taste tested it but after awhile, it was overpowering and way too sweet. My favorite was definitely the coconut. Consistently great ice cream from here! The texture is creamy and never icy! The menu changes periodically, but usually there's a mix of typical flavors offered along with fun more eclectic options. The employees here are always very nice and efficient. The inside is small and can get crowded very easily (especially during warm, more tourist-y days), but fast service ensures you won't have to wait long. Be warned that lines here can get extremely long (one time I saw it stretch all the way down the street), but it's worth it! I got dark chocolate and passion fruit most recently and was very pleased with my choices. My boyfriend tried the blackberry kilmer something (I forget the exact name) and liked the passion fruit better, but there's always a gamble when you opt for a more unusual flavor you haven't tried before. Oh how I wanted to LOVE this place. I came specifically to try their beautiful hot chocolate topped with homemade marshmallows... it was so friggin beautiful. BUT, it was super thick that you could barely drink it and when you did, it was too overpowering. I know, I know... that all sounds great, but when you have to keep adding half and half to make a hot cocoa edible, that's too much. The marshmallows did not disappoint, though.. This ice cream shop is my favorite ice cream in the world. Not only do they rotate through unique flavors, but they have so many options for vegans and non vegans. The options range from ice cream, to milk shakes, and they even have hot chocolate (that you can veganize)! It is in the heart of Princeton being right in the circle of Palmer Square, there is not too much parking directly near, but plenty of options in the area. Depending on how busy it is, they do a number system with a number puller (pretty much the ones you'd find at a deli). Even with being busy they are very fast, I got there 7 minutes after opening and I was already behind 8 people in numbers, but already had my ice cream in less than 10 minutes. My go-to is always going for a pint, they are $10 and first come first serve. My favorite flavor is the dark chocolate vegan, it is so decedent and addicting. Upon going home, I opted to try the peppermint flavor and WOW! I had to stop myself on multiple occasions to not binge the whole pint. I don't believe you can sample ice cream given you order outside and not inside the store, but I would ask. I tried blueberry marscapone which was a great creamy, almost a hint of cheesecake like, blueberry ice cream. The cardamom in the cardamom ginger was good, but I was not here for the candied ginger pieces in the ice cream, as they were too hard in the ice cream and detracted from the overall smoothness. Woww! These flavors were so interesting'! I love that all their ingredients are locally sourced with fruits and cheeses from local farms less than a half hour away! There were so many tempting flavors that I struggled to pick just two that I liked but went with the baked apples and milk chocolate. Apple was cinnamony and creamy (a little too sweet for my taste) but still very good! And the milk choco was delicious. I also saw a sign saying that they made use of the plentiful cicadas to make an ice cream flavor out of it!! Sure that was too much for me but I love the willingness to try bold flavors in a sustainable way! Major props for that. They also handle pandemic lines in a clever and efficient way- where they ask you to take a ticket and then spread out until your number is called allowing people to social distance and not crowd the side walk. IDK, it was just not what I was looking for... and I am open to artistic off-beat culinary experiences but this wasn't artful in any way, just ill conceived. I have been going to The Bent Spoon since the day they opened. But sadly, they no longer behave like a local ice cream shop that treats you like a neighbor. I'm cool with the crowds, but today was a step too far. We stopped in with our 10, 8 & 3 year old. The five of us all like different flavors of ice cream, which isn't uncommon I imagine. But check this out...when I ordered 1 scoop of vanilla for our 3 year old, I was told they only serve 2 scoops per order. OK, we can figure this out, no prob. So I rationally asked if they could put one vanilla scoop for our 3-year old into one cup and put the chocolate scoop for our 10-year old in a different cup. Voila, they get the ice creams they want, and we pay for the full 2 scoops. (you may wonder, wait, why can't they just share from the same cup? Because they stack the scoops on top of each other, they aren't served side by side) The answer was "that's not our policy." So I asked for the manager. Surely, this can't be the case. We want 6 different scoops of ice cream, so surely they can't expect us to order 12 scoops (2 scoops of each flavor)? But the manager confirmed "sorry, it's our policy to not split scoops into different cups." So it was our son's 8th birthday today. They knew that. He chose to go there. Not even that mattered to them, no exceptions are to be made. Either order double the ice cream that you want, or we can't help you. So we exited, I explained the situation to my son. He said "so they want Luna (his 3-year old sister) to eat two scoops of vanilla even though she only eats one?" Yes. "That's ridiculous!" he said. Even an 8 year old can see that. So off to one of the other local ice cream shops we went (there are many), where the shop employees were genuinely happy to celebrate our son's birthday, and to hand each of our children one scoop of their favorite flavor ice creams. read more

Bent Spoon comes second to none in Central NJ when it comes to ice cream. I frequently make the pilgrimage through route 1 rush-hour traffic just for a scoop and I've never regretted it. They change their flavors frequently to keep customers on their toes. Each flavor is rich and inventive. My favorite flavors are usually the ones mixed with marscapone (i.e. lemon, strawberry, lavender) and passionfruit. I recently tried a black pepper flavor, which sounds totally wild, but Bent Spoon somehow made the spicy-sweet combo work. Two scoops will run you about $5.25. Honestly the long line outside this shop is what drew us in. We wanted to see what the hype was about. There's not really a sit down place at this shop and the place gets crowded. We ended up going for the Vegan Coconut Chocolate Bits pint size ice cream and a mini cup cake. The ice cream tasted decent, but it was just a tad bit too sweet to enjoy in large quantity. Helps with portion control I guess. Overall 4/5 for this. We also got a mini cup cake. Straight up 5/5, simply melts in your mouth. For both things we ended up paying $12.50 ($11 for pint, and $1.50 for mini cup cake). Definitely worth the wait if you're looking for good 'vegan ice cream'. But don't go in thinking this is the best tasting or healthiest ice cream ever. It's far from it. But still enjoyable. :) read more

Happy I came across The Bent Spoon while in the Princeton area. It's located just outside Princeton University's gates and tucked among the many shops lining Nassau St. The shop itself is small and cozy, but has a constant flow of people coming in for ice cream. This was still true even though I was getting ice cream in the morning in 30 degree temperatures. What I really like about this shop is the flavor selection. Aside from your staple ice cream flavors they other unique flavors such as jade jujube and earl grey chocolate which is what I had when I came in. Flavors tasted great, but I did have a bit of icy bits in them. The prices do seem a bit steep for the amount of ice cream, but I would come back just to see what new flavors they have. I feel like this review might be (approximately) 11 years overdue... In other words, I had been coming here for years and after a way-too-long-period-of-time I had come here again just last week and rediscovered how amazing this place was! If you're into gelato/sorbet/artisanal-flavored things then you will fall madly in love with the Bent Spoon. My go-to's years ago had always been the coconut sorbet along with the dark chocolate sorbet but having tried tons of their flavors over the years, they never disappoint. Last week, I added the lavender mascarpone to the other two and was super happy with my decision. Whether you're in the mood for straight-up ice cream/sorbet, a float, or some hot chocolate, you really can't go wrong with anything in the Bent Spoon. The staff is super friendly and you're welcome to try out some samples! Just a warning before you go -- there's typically a line (that moves pretty fast, to be honest) and it's CASH only! There's not a whole lot of seating space inside the store but my friends and I would always take our treats across to the park or with us on a walk -- enjoy the beauty of Princeton!
