I heard about this place from a friend. I had to go see it for myself. This place was way more interesting than i thought it was going to be. I went to the restaurant, looking for something local. There it was. Red beans and rice with a side of Blackened Chicken. The place is ancient. If those walls could talk. I was in a little corner table away from everyone. Under the stairs. This restaurant is below the Hotel Bentley, and was supremely convenient for some guests looking to have a strong drink and good food. It was a little pricey, but definitely worth it considering we didn't have to call for an uber to get home. The food was amazing. My friend and I started out with mixed drinks. She had a lemon drop martini and I had a spicy margarita. We enjoyed both drinks. We ordered 2 appetizers: Crawfish Bread With Blackened Alfredo Cream Reduction and Lamb Lollipops With Pecan Pesto. Both delicious. My entree i ordered was the maple salmon. It came with 2 sides. I ordered broccoli and mash potatoes. It was great. My friend ordered Crab Stuffed Catfish Sensation crab and apricot & creole mustard cream her 2 sides were the mac n cheese and broccoli for desert we shared a cheese cake. We enjoyed our server. Service was awful! Twice my husband had to talk to the hostess in order to get an appetizer and later to get a doggy bag. They brought us a high chair and my husband had to get up, again, to wipe it off. He was closer and I was wedged in the opposite corner. I asked for medium fried eggs but my whites were runny. This place is awesome. I go to Alexandria all the time for work. I normally stay across the street as the Bently is a little Boujee for my work budget. I really need to see if I can figure that out. But I digress. The Bently Room is the restaurant located in The Bently Hotel and was highly recommended by a friend's assistant. She said this place was great and she was right. We walked in on a Monday with no reservations. It was busy but not packed and we had no wait at all. The menu was pretty extensive and I would consider it on the higher end of food, especially for the area. Prices are reasonable however so do not let the high-end tag scare you off. Our server, Jennifer was great. She recommended we start with crawfish bread which all I can say is hell yes. This was delicious. We had four of us from work and each of us got a giant piece. Imagine crawfish and cheese and some damn good bread. Now picture that times 1000 taste wise and you have a good idea of how good this was. Get it. Next up was the pork ribeye. I didn't even know pork had ribeyes but yes they do. It was perfectly cooked, filled with flavor and so tender you could have cut it with a fork. It was delicious. The side of mashed potatoes was an excellent accompaniment and the bite of potatoes, sauce, and pork was to die for. I paid for the appetizer, someone else's coke (just checked the receipt and realized that got added), my pork entree, and a glass of wine and the total was only $64 and that is with a $11 tip. You can't beat this. In my mind, this is the best restaurant in Alexandria. I will be back very soon. read more

The service and ambiance of this restaurant is amazing. The look is upscale and elegant. We booked our reservation to celebrate the night before my LSUA graduation and they really worked with us. I ordered the Catfish Jenkins with grilled fish, a cup of Gumbo, and the Beignets W/ Powdered Sugar & Coffee Glaze. My husband had the Catfish Jenkins fried and Traditional Mac n Cheese. My girls had the Pork Ribeye, Sautéed Spinach, Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Smoked Gouda Risotto, and Crawfish Mac n Cheese. Everything with great, served hot and flavorful except both Traditional and Crawfish Mac n Cheese (stiff, cakey, and no flavor) and the Gumbo. The Gumbo was the worst. We stopped for brunch on a Sunday around noon. My husband said it was the best fried catfish he's ever had. "A light batter that cradled the fish" was his description. He said the étouffée was okay. He also had a side of fruit which was a very generous portion. I had the western omelette with the beer cheese, definitely decadent and delicious. Was a HUGE portion. The hash browns looked like they were likely frozen, they were just okay. And I'm a biscuit lover, these again were just okay. Really crispy on the outside which isn't my favorite. Not big in fluffy, I'm sure it's in the way they are cooked. Overall a great experience, service was good, we did call ahead for a reservation as we were driving from NE Texas down to NOLA, made the reservation about hour and half before we arrived they were able to get us in. Neatly nestled in the basement of The Hotel Bentley is The Bentley Room restaurant. It was remodeled during the hotel renovation due to flooding. Hotel guests and public are welcomed. There is an entrance from outside the hotel too. The restaurant is midsized with windows aligned with the sidewalk and black tablecloths on the tables and a tailored aesthetic. The hostess stand is to your left as you enter. Immediately greeted @ 11 a.m. and seated near a window. Requested recommendations from Felicia, the server, and was so delighted with her choice. I ordered a small garden salad and "crawfish bread w/blackened Alfredo cream reduction" $18. It was delicious and worth all the guilt I felt after my workout. A definite winner in my book. read more

We called a day before to make a reservation. The parking sucked and there were a few homeless encounters because we had to walk over 2 blocks to the restaurant. We were greeted and seated immediately in the "Fox Hole". It was the weekend so we picked from the brunch menu. The worst part of our meal was that my glass of water had "stuff" suspended in the bottom of the glass. And you can bet the ice is made with the same water. Nice place, we ate same menu at the mirror lounge that's attached to it as there were no tables. The seafood beignets were excellent. Fluffy and seasoned. Not too heavy. The Cajun Benedict was good but crab was a little fishy. The shrimp Benedict was great. Shrimp was done very well and the sauce was good. Shredded hash browns and Gouda grits were also very good. When you order a side of bacon you can feed four people with it. Too salty thought. First, I LOVE my water. I assumed such a historic place would invest in a water filter, but they do not. The water is definitely city water and it comes through in their Arnold Palmer. YUCK!! We decided to order the Crab Cakes and Fried Green Tomato apps so we would have room for the desserts. The appetizers were great. Fried to perfection with similar sauces. The beignets were flaky and reminded me of Cafe DuMonde in New Orleans. My husband liked Chocolate Bread Pudding but would have preferred if it was warm. This restaurant is delicious!! Don't forget to make reservations!! We sat down and were greeted by our waitress Molly who had the most excellent suggestions for menu items. For starters we got the caprese flatbread which was served pizza style with a crunchy crust and delicious drizzling of balsamic on top. Beautiful!! For our entrees we got the blackened salmon with a side of bacon wrapped asparagus and French fries and pork ribeye(chop) with Madeira wine and mushroom cream sauce with mashed sweet potatoes and spinach. Wow! The food was so scrumptious! We had plenty to take home too. I certainly recommend this place and each time I'm in Alexandria I will be coming back. Street side parking on many one way streets was easygoing and we walked less than half a block to the basement place. Greeted at the door by the hostess who had just seated numerous tables. The place was packed and still managing the tables very well. Local canned beers were available in a few minutes. Next was the best appetizer I've ever had: crawfish bread. Then more local beer to try! Going well and then recommended the stuffed grouper. Came with two sides and was amazing! Stayed at the hotel and ate here twice. Quick service. Friendly staff. The sauces were on point for crab cakes appetizer and for catfish topped with crab meat. Flavorful. Garlic mashed potatoes were just right. I wasn't able to try the brunch but was told brunch on the weekend was delicious especially the biscuits and surprisingly the eggs, which aren't usually great at hotels. The adjacent bar is large and great service too. The hotel has historical memorabilia in the two lower levels. The Bentley Hotel was Louisiana Maneuvers Center of Operations during World War Ii. It was the premier training event that prepared the US Army to go to Europe and win WWII. This hotel displays such things as uniform pieces, unit insignia's and equipment from soldiers who took part in the maneuvers, as well as timelines, facts, pictures and videos introducing people to the massive exercise that would shape the course of history. Impressive. Appretizers. We started with a half dozen charbroiled oysters on half-shelled, simply delicious - rich, garlicky with roasted parmessen; great sauce while served on toasted bread The absolute best we've had in several years. 5 stars for atmosphere: Love the Bentley for get togethers. Anytime we want to get together with friends we choose the Bentley due to the atmosphere. Wait staff is very friendly and do a great job. If you have time, tour the hotel it is BEAUTIFUL. While it is considered fine dining I do not find it to be a pretentious atmosphere. 4 stars for food: there are a lot of great options, especially with their apps. Some Entrees have a little too much sauce to me, but my husband loves it that way. Don't get me wrong the food is good but I wouldn't say it's AMAZING when considering this is fine dining prices. All of the salads are fresh and delicious. Soups/bisque are good too. Desserts have been hit and miss, nothing bad just a few items that were "meh" If you get the truffle Mac and cheese add crawfish- so good. read more

The MOD (Sam) was very helpful with narrowing down some of the choices. Even then, we had a tough time finishing the food we'd ordered, so it definitely helps to go in with a healthy appetite. The fact that we showed up at 1:30 when they close at 2:00, didn't bother them in the least. The food and service didn't suffer in the least because of that!
