It looks the same inside and out, and seems to follow the same philosophy - locally sourced ingredients, products freshly baked on site etc. On this visit we tried a homemade sausage roll and a butternut squash, spinach, feta and pine nut tart. Both were absolutely delicious. We were asked if we wanted them warmed up, and instead of stuffing them in the microwave for 30 seconds like so many other places do, they actually properly reheated them in the oven, retaining the correct flavour and texture - it's the little touches that make the difference. My lemmongrass tea was delicious and my OH approved of his Americano. Our server was sweet and friendly. We sat outside on the few tables overlooking the street and soaked up some sunshine. One of the places I've always wanted to try is the V&H Café in Hove. Which I actually live somewhat close to. And yet, it took me 6 months of living here to go. Anyway, the point is, I went. And about 50% off their offerings are gluten free. Hooray! We decided to actually go for a bit of brunch after the Pride parade before Katy needed to go to work. We popped in and the place had a few people inside but was fairly quiet. I'm not sure if this was normal for a Saturday morning, or if it was just a bit quiet because everyone was at the parade. The decor is nothing exciting, but it is comfortable and relaxed. They had plenty of gluten free cakes on display and all of the breakfasts and toasties can be made gluten free. I was feeling a brunch vibe, so I went for a bacon breakfast sandwich. It was very yummy! Perfect to gobble down, as my parade sunburn fully developed. Katy had a savoury tart which wasn't gluten free so I forgot to take a photo of it. Whoops. Bad food blogger! We also took home a slice of the toffee apple cake, which is both gluten free and vegan. I liked it quite a lot, as I am into fruity cakes. Katy doesn't like cake in general (what a weirdo), so she wasn't a big fan. Overall, my impression was pretty average. For good comfort food, and high gluten free availability, this is an excellent choice. But if you're looking for a cute spot to catch up with your friends and take lovely Instagram pics, there are plenty of prettier options in Brighton and Hove.

They are made from the best quality chocolate, the shells are thick, and are stuffed with a selection of eggs, chocolates and truffles. I've not had eclairs this good in the UK and we love them so much we had them as our wedding dessert. So few left over my mum was actually disappointed as I think she was hoping to live on them for a few days! Great service and really easy to communicate with. Oh and really really excellent eclairs!

They look and taste like bread, pastries and cake should but they lack the X factor. I've popped in there on a whim many times myself, bought a florentine, a macaroon, a slice of chocolate and pear tart and a loaf of walnut bread and always ended up feeling under-whelmed. I suspect one of the reasons people keep coming back to Real Patisserie is because (A) everything is modestly priced and (B) there aren't any other great bakeries around. Denise, the "Queen of cakes", has been baking cakes for years. She originally opened up the bakery next door making cakes to order for special occasions, and has recently taken over the adjoining cafe so we all have a chance to sample her delicious wears! As well as cakes, the cafe offers homemade savoury snacks such as sausage rolls and quiches, as well as light lunches and cream teas. The coffee is high quality and reasonably priced, and the tea and hot chocolate are fab too. Combine this with a homely environment, plenty of outside seating over looking the green, and super friendly service, this place is going to get a lot more of my business in the near future!

Having 'holidayed' in France for most summers growing up, I have been spoilt by great French boulangeries and patisseries, but I must say that Real Patisserie is spot on. Their selection and the quality of their food is great. I used to work in the building where all their bread is made and, on the odd occasion, a market they'd have prepared for would be cancelled. The whole office block would get an email, along the lines of 'we have a tonne of bread that we need to get rid off' and we would all run down to try and make sure we got something before it all sold out! Once you'd tried the bread, you see, the thought of missing it was just too much to bear. It's beautiful bread - made with care and attention. Sweet bread, savoury brea, crusty bread, soft bread - you name it, they do it! They do it well. I like this place a lot and all I hear is good things, so if you haven't tried it yet then please do! If you really want to ruin the rest of your working day rubbing your stomach whilst mouthing 'too much - too much' then I'd grab a slice of La mousse trois chocolats to follow your quiche. Sacre bleu!
