We asked the server on way in, what's good here....chicken fried steak is the best he said He wasn't kidding. 1/2 lb of crunching well seasoned juicy and thick/meaty goodness. We're impressed. Also saw the 3 car pileup on the menu. 3 of everything. Massive. Just had to get it. It was good, and it resisted any attempts to make a dent in it. Futilely. Holy cow so so good!! This place has a little of everything for breakfast from pancakes to their famous biscuits and gravy, you can't go wrong. I will just get a little bit of both when I get! Haha! Sometimes the wait staff can be interesting. They may forget you are there or sometimes they are just rude. But that's only happened a couple of times and I have been there more than a handful of times. My family always looks forward to the Big Biscuit when they come in to town! It is almost always a "breakfast after church" spot! Sometimes it can get super busy and crowded, but if you want one of the best biscuits in your life this is the place! read more

I really like this Big Biscuit location, and frequently eat here specifically because the wait time is usually low, the staff is friendly, the food is consistently good, and the atmosphere is a little quieter than other places on the east side. The only criticism I have is that checking in using the Yelp app does plot synch with the Yelp iPad they have. You have to go to up to the hostess to indicate your party is there, which kinda defeats the purpose of checking in with Yelp. read more

This breakfast spot is super yummy and convenient for an early breakfast. They open at 6:30 which is when we arrived and there was hardly anyone there which equaled quick service. I can't say anything about how service would be when they are busy but when we were there the waitress was quick to help us and was very polite and friendly. The biscuits and gravy were so delicious. The place looks a little outdated but has some cool lighted signs inside that made the inside really cool. This is one of the only breakfast places in Lawrence KS but according to a friend we were visiting it is the best breakfast place in the area. read more

Superb biscuits and gravy. This is one of my favorite breakfast dishes. The plate arrived with a huge biscuit, generous quantity of gravy, and very well prepared eggs. The biscuit was the right consistency with a balance of soft inside and crisp outside. Other disappointing biscuits have been tough and stale, but the freshness of the biscuit was evident from first to last bite. The gravy was the right consistency and the peppery goodness brought back good childhood memories. I highly recommend that you go with an appetite - big portions for moderate cost! read more

Went there today and was told there was no wait list because there wasn't any waiting...while me and 20 other people were waiting in line. The hostess then proceeded to tell another gentleman that there was at least a 20 minute wait. I know everyone has an off day, but for an employee to tell everyone that they don't know what is going on...that doesn't look good. read more

The ambience of the place has a nice hometown feel to it, but the turnaround time on meals was entirely too long. I wanted to try some more things out of the pastry case, but because of the long wait, I had to get back on my way. If I ever did stop back by, I'd have the French toast again, but I definitely tried some of the other things in the pastry case that looked rather delicious.

There is no school going on at KU as commencement was the previous week. There were only six cars in the hotel garage. We have never been treated so rudely by a hotel's front desk personnel. I also asked when the room might be available and was told 4:00. She made no effort to look anything up or accommodate us in any way. Very disappointing.

I also ordered a spicy jalapeno margarita. I will refer to it as "spicy" because it really was not. They had a few specials for the evening as well. Everything sounded good! Our waitress was friendly and very prompt with our order, which was much appreciated. It was a good time. The last time someone in my party had been here was 54 years ago for his rehearsal dinner- hilarious!

The Bartender Garrett greeted us right away and seated us at the bar top. My friend and I decided on a Bloody Mary, it was a little spicy but not heavy. Garrett was friendly and attentive, he engaged in small talk with us which was nice. We only stayed for one cocktail but I would definitely go back to try some other delicious cocktails that I saw on the menu.

Since I've been in Lawrence (which is about 10 years now which is so nuts) this has been Merchants. I love Merchants. It's consistently (to me) a top 3 restaurant on Mass St. The food is high quality. The service is high quality. The chefs table is a vibe (idk if they still have it but they did a few years ago). Anyway, the duck and dumplings was so comforting. It was the perfect ratio of duck to dumpling to vegetable to broth. The bison burger always slaps and the fries are so yummy. Dare I say they have the best burger in town? Also you guys have the BEST Diet Coke. So good and crispy. I love you Merchants! Also sitting next to the window and looking out to the twinkle lights on mass was so dreamy.

At one point I asked about the two kinds of fries (I love fries!), and the explanation was simply that they were "fancy fries," without much detail on flavors or differences. We started with drinks and the Brussels sprouts appetizer. The sprouts were actually very good, with a nice balance in the sauce, and both the wine and sangria were refreshing. Unfortunately, dinner is where things went downhill. Our meals -- a steak and a gluten-free chicken sandwich -- took about 45 minutes to arrive, which felt long for relatively simple dishes. I had asked about the gluten-free bun since they can sometimes be dry, but didn't receive much insight beyond "it's gluten free," and sadly it was indeed very dry. The chicken itself lacked flavor, though the goat cheese cilantro sauce helped make it somewhat enjoyable. The fries looked homemade and delicious but arrived cold. The steak was cooked as requested, but it didn't have much flavor beyond the mushrooms on top. The broccoli side was tasty, and the potatoes were good, though it on a bed of Some kind of cheese sauce that wasn't quite to our liking. Overall, the space and gluten-free availability were promising, and the appetizers and drinks were enjoyable, but the food execution and service details didn't quite meet expectations for us this visit.

Cut it in half and showed waitress who went and talked to the kitchen. They said that when they butcher the chicken they sometimes get thigh meat w the breast???? What? Unbelievable that a manager didn't come to discuss but 35.00 bucks for thigh and arugula salad is robbery. She was kind enough to take off bill but still feel 715 is trying to pull one over again which might explain all the empty seats as well. Have shared this story w a few folks who have said it has gone downhill in the last several months. The prices you charge are over the top. Plenty of other places in town to eat like q39 where you can get a 3 meat platter w 2 sides and order of wings for the same price as 715's chicken thigh and arugula salad! Ok after this i am done. Here in mexico and ordered the chicken parm at the marriott and guess what cut of chicken they used? Breast just like 99% of the world except 715. They should be embarassed

Restaurant Manager Alex Tuckwin and Chef Ty Armstrong created a personal, unforgettable evening. Each course was beautifully prepared, each wine pairing thoughtfully chosen. The flavors, the setting, the kindness-all exceptional. I didn't know my taste buds could be so astounded! We felt welcomed, relaxed, and truly cared for. It was a five star experience in the heart of a college town. A hidden gem we'll remember for a long time. The Oread is home to two true artists-Alex Tuckwin and Ty Armstrong- and we are so grateful to have experienced their work.
