The ube croughnut is the greatest thing on this planet earth that I've ever had the chance to experience. It looks so sweet but it's not, it the perfect amount of sweetness. The cream on the inside MY GOD, IT IS PERFECTION. The ladies working were super sweet also. I'm so sad I discovered this place the day before leaving the island. This place is truly a gem. Thank you for making such an amazing pastry.

This was our second visit to Big Island Bakehouse, and it's always a treat! When visiting another island, we love the convenience of having delicious, satisfying snacks on hand while we're on the go--pastries are definitely our go-to! Their pastries are wonderfully flaky and generously filled--they never skimp on the filling or featured flavors. They offer both sweet and savory options, and today, we finally got to try their ube croinuts after missing out last time. They were absolutely worth the wait! The bakery opens at 10:00 AM, but there's already a line 15-20 minutes beforehand. Since they can only accommodate one customer at a time in the front section, expect a bit of a wait. The staff is incredibly friendly, and you can tell they put so much pride and aloha into their pastries. It's always a pleasure to support them. This cute little bakery makes the most of its space, and it's a must-visit when you're in the Hilo area. Definitely a 10/10 recommend!

These baked goods looked so good I had to try them. My husband, mom, dad, and I all shared: - Bambolini - Pesto Goat Cheese Croissant - Raspberry Almond Croissant - Ube Cronut - Lemon Meringue Cruffin - Cinnamon Bun with Whipped Cream Cheese Frosting My favorite things were the Pesto Goat Cheese Croissant, Lemon Meringue Cruffin, and Ube Cronut. We also went back a second time and I really enjoyed the Ham & Cheese Croissant. They make lilikoi cinnamon rolls seasonally so I need to come back in season and try one of those!

Holy shit. These were the best pastries I've ever had in my LIFE. I feel like there should be an option to offer an additional star for something so spectacular. The ube cronut was my favorite and I will dream about it for years to come. Second favorite for me was the ham and cheese croissant. Third favorite was the bombolini, which surprised me because I thought it would be #1 for me. My issue with it was that there's too much cream, the bottom fell out right away. I think it would be still delicious with less cream. The cinnamon roll was also tasty, a little bit thicker and more bread like than some other cinnamon rolls that are more tightly wound with more swirls of cinnamon. Anyway, I don't think there's any bad options here. I eyeballed the raspberry scone and pesto & goat cheese croissants too, but I figured 4 pastries is enough. You MUST try this place.

When I say don't walk run, I mean it. This is probably the best bakery I have ever been to. The Ube cronut and pain aux raisin were by far my favorite. They were both fresh yet unique. If I find myself on the big Island this is a guaranteed spot I will return to! Very kind people who run it too!

Fantastic small batch bakehouse run by a hardworking one man baker They are currently open friday saturday sundays between ten am and two pm. I made my way over there on a Sunday around 1:30 p m and had slim pickings left, for good reason. I got to try a chocolate croissant, lemon meringue cruffkn, and walnut blue cheese scone. All items were excellently crafted, not too sweet and masterfully made. I recommend coming early for the widest of selections.

Their store is only open on Wed and Sat, so you should definitely plan ahead to visit this store on those days in the morning to have a better selection of bread choices. At the rate people were buying, this house of flour, water, yeast, and salt would be out of bread in no time. We got two focaccia slices: goat cheese roasted pepper basil and an ali'i mushroom garlic. Both were chewy but airy at the same time. The mushroom was spicier than expected requiring bites of the goat cheese slice to cool the palete. The roasted peppers and basil added extra flavors to the richness of the goat cheese. Both were delicious, large slices of bread, and you should absolutely make a stop here, just make sure they're open. And get there early. These Hilo natives love their bread and there may not be much left if you get there late! For those of you familiar with Honolulu's famous Breadshop in Kaimuki, this may be slightly better, but don't take my word for it. Parking in whatever street parking you can find.

At first glance, it may look like other small, local shops, with locally made products and a few interesting goods to browse. (I ended up buying the last 'I'iwi bird pin they had on display, which I loved!) After reading some other reviews, I realized we may have just gotten lucky because the owner happened to be in that day. Let me say this upfront: they advertise slow black coffee and they mean it! The owner (Brian?) takes his time with each customer, chatting with you to understand what you're looking for and making some suggestions. It's clear he enjoys both his craft and engaging with customers. It was not very busy while we were there, which added to that relaxed, Hawaiian vacation vibe. We really enjoyed the conversation with him and even walked away having learned a few new things. We took our coffee and other purchases to enjoy on the bench outside, along with some stone cookies from nearby. (There were also additional tables and chairs available on a side patio.)
