The staff were very helpful and when I said it might not be possible to save the frame, out of curiosity they put the bike straight on the shop stand to have a proper look at it. Minutes later I was walking out with a brand new bottom bracket installed. Very impressed. Reasonable prices. These guys love a challenge.

Yes - I could fix it myself but I am lazy and my bike is 50 years old so figured I'd just get a quote and see if someone professional could give it a once over. Not sure who I spoke to at Sprocket but he was very helpful and quoted me £28 for the same job. What a nice guy! I'll be taking 'Star Rider' (yes) down for a service very soon! I was told the build would take about five months so i was okay with that and waited accordingly.Phoned six months later on Jan 19th and asked how my frame was coming along, and was told that it would soon be ready.Recieved a phone call on Feb 18th to confim that the bike frame was being despatched on Monday 21st and would be with me on Weds 23rd Feb.Waited in all day Weds, no frame arrived. Phoned this morning and told that the frame was still in the shop waiting for a seat collar, and that they would send the frame as soon as one came in.I asked why no one phoned up to let me know tthat the frame had not been despatched and i was told they were not open on Wednesdays. Please call me pedantic if you wish too, but when you have spent 1700 quid on a frame you would expext slightly better customer service form such a reputable firm.So as of today Wednesday February 24th, seven months after the original order, i still have no frame, but i guess good thing come to all those who wait. To sum everything up about my Mercian Expeience so far, poor customer service,but i am guessing that the frame will be quality when it arrives.

I had an inner tube blow out on the way to an interview. I dropped it off at Samways on the way through, came back 2 hours later and picked it up. I was riding home. Unfortunately at list price I can't afford to buy ANYTHING in the shop! They do price match if they can and order things in so it is a case of do your research beforehand and go in with a list and see what you can get. Top service work though.

While Neil M. makes an obvious and valid point about the larger stock of Edinburgh Bicycle Co-op, I don't feel that is necessarily a deal-breaker against buying a bike from The Bicycle Doctor which is still quite sizeable. Plus, I get the feeling that the stock offered by The Bicycle Doctor is quite savvy in its own way, with some unique products which may be hard to find elsewhere in Manchester. For example, an electric bike by Trek at £1,700 and a rainbow of cute pastel-coloured Brompton folding bikes both suggest that people are spending serious money here - in fact I don't think EBC stock electric bikes at all. I parted with cash for an interestingly versatile 100% merino wool 'buff', which can be to protect and the cold and UV also, plus a neat pair of cycling sunglasses which several people have asked me where I bought them from. I am in the market for cycle panniers, and I will definitely consider buying them from the good Bicycle Doctor, especially since they stock the high-end Ortlieb roll-top waterproof designs and even had four or so different colours in stock. On the repairs front, their website states that all their mechanics are Cytech-certified which sounds good enough to me! Lastly, The Bicycle Doctor allocates a significant corner of their precious floorspace to a rack of cycling leaflets detailing local routes, mass rides, and cycle-friendly tourism further afield - an authentic touch which typifies this Workers' Co-op which has been 'Serving the Cycling Community for over 25 years'. It's a coop where the staff are passionate, knowledgeable and cater to all customer types. In stock are great brands such as Surly and Brompton. They won't try to force you to buy something off the shelf, they will help you customise it and go the extra mile e.g. offering to loan us a bike so bf could accompany me home and giving us flapjacks! Purchase also comes with 3 free services after which bike is a good as new.

But later on when I try to repair a bike i bought elsewhere I was charged 20 more pounds each time with a broken component and not being advised on the overall quality of the bike and whether it's better idea to abandon the bike. I feel like the bike is an infinite money black hole with unforeseen spent on repair. Last Christmas, I bought a second handed bike from the shop, i chose a 75 pounds bike initially but advised that if i buy 120 pounds one would receive a quality guarantee,but it turns out to be a lie even with the receipt. The first break down happened 2 months later. when I go to him with a long walk he told me the axis of the wheel is snapped and expected me to pay for it. When i showed him the receipt, he reluctantly agree to repair but let me come back in an hour. I went back home and went for a run thinking when i finished running could ride it home. But when i came to the shop after 2 HOURS. HE HASNT DONE A THING WITH MY BIKE. I have to wait in the cold air with my shorts on for another hour to watch him fix it. By the time I ride home both my arms lost feelings in the cold post winter temperature. Second breakdown happened 1 month after as the exam seasons. I didnt have time to repair and only got the time after exam and this time he again try to charge me and when I mention the quality assurance. He said that only last a months and THAT WAS NOT MENTIONED AT ALL WHEN I PURCHASED IT and think about no products have insurance of that short time. it was completely made up by the owner. I have to blame myself for buying in private business as there's no regulation to trace. The receipt is just worthless
