I came in on a Sunday morning, and thankfully there wasn't a large crowd, so we were seated immediately by the host, who was very friendly. South of the Border meals are so good and have a little spice! Today, I had the Mexican Pepper Steak with a fiery red sauce that complimented the beans and rice well. I opted for no tortillas and instead got toasted rye bread, at my friend's suggestion. The bread was crisp on the outside, and thick and warm perfect for butter. My friend always shares her Potato Pancakes with me and I enjoy the cool side of applesauce. Orange juice is flavorful and just enough to wash down my meal. I've also had coffee that's been kept filled. Service is excellent!! The staff are all friendly, helpful, and attentive. Portions are large and perfect for sharing and leftovers. I boxed up the rest of my food and just enjoyed a second helping when I got home, plus I still have more left for dinner. For my skillet it was a good portion, but I felt like there was not a lot of meat on my skillet and far more potatoes, and while i feel like the price was more than fair, i would have liked a little more meat on mine. The biscuit though - awful. I took a bite and was glad I only took a small one; it was dry and not even flavorful (even though there was butter on it). Great breakfast spot in the area. We have been here a few times now and they are normally able to seat us right away. The restaurant is very clean and the servers are attentive. So far I have tried 3 items on the menu: Fresh Fruit Waffle - can't really go wrong with this one. Plus, they use fruits that I like, which are strawberries, blueberries, bananas and apples. Yay! Recently, we went to another restaurant that didn't specify their fruit toppings, and I ended up not eating the cantaloupe and honeydew melon. Biscuits and Gravy (half order): great when the gravy is served hot! Not too bland or salty and there is a good amount of sausage in it. My only complaint is that one time the gravy was served lukewarm, so I'm not sure if my order was just sitting there for a while. I found Potato Latkes at it wasn't at Bagelmania or Bagel Cafe! It was at Blue Skillet, across from Walmart on Ft Apache, but the entrance "is around back". I ordered Latkes, which came with applesauce and sour cream. Just like Mom used to make; crispy around the edge and moist and tasty on the inside. Coffee flowed continuously and was good. I ordered the Guadalajara chorizo skillet. The menu describes the skillet as--Guadalajara Chorizo Skillet--authentic chorizo sausage, green pepper, onion, tomato, tortilla chips and Jack cheese. It makes for a hearty breakfast. There was a good amount of chorizo, cheese, and potato cubes. It makes for a good combination. I ordered coffee when I first sat down. Our main issue was that the food took long to get, and when we finally started to get food, it was mixed up twice. We ordered French toast, crepes, with the orders of bacon and eggs. It was good. No complaints on the food. Personally, the food is good, but it's like your basic breakfast elsewhere like Denny's or IHOP. Nothing about it stands up both in good/bad ways. Just very simple breakfast. I will say it's not worth the price to pay. That is my own personal opinion. Our bill was over $50. We can afford that, no prob. It's just that the price doesn't match the 'basicness' of the meal/service. I don't think we'll be coming back, but it was nice to try! Also, the restrooms had a very strong smell. Let me start by saying that I'm leaving it at four stars, but my experience with this restaurant was closer to a three star experience, and that is because my omelette was absolutely awful both the first and second time around, and I could not even finish half the omelette both times because it just wasn't good. My spouse liked their breakfast, which was immersed in fat like butter and oil, so they were happy. Therefore, I gave it four stars. My spouse couldn't care us about calories and they ordered the mushroom and Swiss omelette along with hashbrowns and toast, and it was plenty to eat and they admitted that it was a lot of fat on the plate. It was very obvious. They liked it so that's cool. I ordered an egg white omelette with tomato/green pepper/onion, which was not even on the menu, so I was basically ordering the steak omelette without the steak or the cheese. I'm health-conscious and I'm trying to 'watch my waist'. I received an omelette that was completely fried in oil and it was just gobs of oil that was obvious, and the omelette was jet yellow with absolutely no white anywhere to be seen. I ended up letting the waitress know, who initially had to go ask how to even put the order in because it was an order not on the menu, and she wasn't even sure how to do that, but was able to figure it out. The second omelette was an actual egg white looking omelette yet both omelettes had absolutely zero seasoning. The fruit cup was pretty much mostly 75% bananas with a few cantaloupe and honeydew. I ordered the fruit cup instead of hashbrowns or toast. I commend the restaurant for making the omelette again. In my review, originally, as this is updated, I simply explained that I hope a manager or owner reads this because it would be nice to have a few healthier options on the menu as there are a lot of people that are health-conscious. Long story short: the message I got from an owner or manager, was as follows: 'We wish you the very best at other establishments, including IHOP', which I mentioned makes a very good egg white omelette. As someone with their own business and who cares about their patrons, I would never respond in such a way unless I could not care less about customers. This is exactly what the response from the manager translated for me. I think this review should clearly demonstrate that if a restaurant is not willing to at least take a suggestion from a patron, whether they go with it or not, but instead respond with catty comments, then I have nothing more to say, and I don't want to hear from them either. I will simply be more than happy to go to other establishments, including IHOP! Sadly, I would never usually say this, but fortunate enough to do very well financially, so we go out a lot and I've been to the best of best of restaurants, and this is easily one of the worst ones I've been to. If they cannot even take a suggestion, then no wonder that is the case. I will never be coming back here again and will be happy to go to other establishments. Would never recommend this place to anybody if this is how they respond to a suggestion and are not happy that I actually had 'the audacity' to let the public know what happened during my experience there. read more

Had the Blue Skillet on my check-out list for awhile I finally went there during brunch hour with my mom. We ordered a small biscuit and gravy, two different Eggs Benedict - the Florentine and South of the Border. We definitely enjoyed the Florentine more but both were pretty good. The biscuit and gravy wasn't the best I've had but it's fine. What stands out about this place is the service was great!
