    Ham Torta
    Anthony W.

Torta. Definitely try it. When I come up to Mendocino from the Bay Area, it's a long drive. As you get closer, the options for food starts to dwindle. Things get even harder when you are in Anderson Valley and you are trying to wine taste. Gotta get some food right? Check out the Boonville General Store. Now when you enter you might question your choice based on the decor. Don't let the 80's cafe vibe fool you. This place IS legit. Me and my friends always get sandwiches here anytime go up or home from Mendocino and it always gets the job done. I always get the Torta's because they are just so good. I love the bread that they use and I love the kick of the Jalapeños with the freshness of the greens and tomato. Ive had the Ham and Steak Tortas and I cant wait to try the Pastor one sometime. My friends have gotten sandwiches there...and though they are all delicious, nothing compares to my Tortas imo!

Good food and friendly staff. This place is across the street from Boonville Hotel. Boonville is a small town off hwy 128.

We stopped here for a quick bite on our travels. Soup of the day was chicken Posole' and my partner got the savory tart, which tasted like a quiche, it was good. The Posole' was bland, very little spice, no lime flavor or as an accoutrement, it was served with tortilla chips, shredded purple cabbage and onion. This place was clean and very friendly service. I would stop again if in the area, the other bakery items looked delicious.

First time we came 5-star. Today, really lacking. It's Sunday at 1pm and they were out of the first 3 items we asked for, and the servings were super lacking. Grilled cheese was tiny, burrito was so so, and forgot sour cream, ham sandwich only had pickled onions on one small part (daughter thought it was her fav sandwich last time this time didn't think much of it, chicken salad was an old chopped dry chicken, etc. I get the sense they've been able to raise prices exorbitantly over covid as they're not cheap, but have somehow disconnected from quality, value and customer. Too bad, we were so excited to return.

The Boonville General Store was incredibly busy when we arrived. Fortunately, we did some research, ordered ahead, and our sandwiches were ready upon arrival. We tried the ham sandwiches, beet salad, and sweet potato fries. The ham sandwiches were delicious with course grain mustard and pickled onions adding an extra kick. The sweet potato fries were more like baked mildly spiced sweet potatoes but super tasty! There are a handful of picnic benches outside for outdoor dining. hickory smoked ham and swiss with pickled red onions, mayo, mendo mustard and lettuce spicy baked sweet potato "fries" roasted beet salad

Our original plan was to go to Mosswood Cafe and Bakery but sadly they were closed. Saw this place was open and restrooms available for customers -yay! I got the veggie sandwhich and my husband got the ham and cheese.Tasty sandwiches made with homemade bread yum

We were on our way home from camping and I searched Yelp for a place to stop and eat and we are so happy we stopped here!! I wasn't super hungry and ordered a side of sausage and side of fries, my husband ordered their breakfast special and my daughter ordered a cheese pizza. None of what we ordered looked appetizing but oh em gee!!!!! Everything was DELICIOUS!!!! We are everything!!! If we are ever in this area we will definitely stop again!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Cute seating area outside. Lots of fresh ingredients to make as assortment of baked foods, snacks like large pickles, and made to order paninis, soups and so much more! Staff was friendly and patient. It is small inside so an order ahead might be better depending on the season. They give you a buzzer to wait once you order so you can wait in your car or wander around :) We tried a local cider and there is a tasting next door for wine if you want to eat great food, taste local cider, wines, and enjoy the lovely views :)

So we stopped in on our way to Healdsburg for lunch we got three sandwiches two smoked ham one turkey. They are made fresh with fresh ingredients and the bread taste homemade! Staff was super nice, asked for extra tomato's and she said no problem!

Consomé for dipping the quesabirria tacos nice garlicky flavor with a subtle clove undertone. Yummy!

I have been here 3 times and ordered off the specials twice: pastrami sandwich and quesabirria tacos. They were both so delicious! Do not pass up the Birria tacos if you see them. I got them on a Monday and not sure how they run their specials, but they were off the hook. They weren't greasy, but certainly rich, flavorful and made with freshly made tortillas, high quality pork and plenty of fresh onion and cilantro. They realllllly hit the spot. The consomé was nice and flavorful as well. It had a wonderful garlicky taste with a nice subtle undertone of clove. The pastrami sandwich was served on some nice hearty sourdough. The pastrami was nice and fatty but not greasy: the sandwich itself was very simple: pastrami, cheese, caramelized onions. I added avocado for health and to cut through some of the richness of the animal fat, however it would be just as delicious without that addition. There are plenty of great spots to sit outside on picnic benches. There is no eating inside, I think because of covid and the inside area is quite small. They have quite a variety of freshly made pastries and cakes such as carrot bread (yummy, moist and dense), scones, cookies and so on. I recommend their homemade cinnamon sugar donuts, which are warm when you come in the morning :) they are fluffy but also a bit cake like so it's a great balance. I am a donut connoisseur after all...in case you didn't know.. The service is amazing too. The ladies here are pleasant, polite and hardworking. Sadly, it appears that the majority of the clientele are tourists: older Caucasian crowd with not much of a local variety or diversity. I imagine the prices aren't very affordable or feasible for many of the true locals as their land, culture and value has been decimated by the privileged outsiders who want nothing more than to develop and infiltrate this sacred area. Honestly, two huge tacos(see photos) made with everything made from scratch, and an Arnold Palmer (all made from scratch) for less than $20 is an absolute steal, but for the majority of Americans that is very expensive. You can buy a lot more groceries for that price. Since many of their customers appear to be well off, retired and what not, it would behoove them to leave a generous cash tip whenever possible. I'm sure the hardworking local ladies and their communities will greatly appreciate it! This place is always busy so they are constantly working to prepare food and provide excellent service. I worked in restaurants for 15 years in various positions (mostly a waitress) and it is truly back breaking work! Thank you ladies for making all of my experiences so pleasant. Keeping a smile on your face while serving rich, unaware, entitled clients takes a toll on your spirit. I am truly grateful that your business exists. You have done a wonderful job!

I've been to this cute little spot twice now! The inside is charming and the staff is very friendly. There's a couple choices of chips, drinks, scones and sandwiches. I recommend getting your sandwich toasted, otherwise it's a little too soft for me. Great place to stop to use the bathroom as well if you're passing through town on a road trip. Good coffee too!

Plus we did't really prep for the long drive and we were starving. As soon as I saw the lights of the Anderson Valley Market, I pulled over. This gentleman was trying to close up, but he let us in. We were happily impressed with the selection of local cheese, imported cheese and prepaid cheese plates. We bought a great selection of cheese plates and Sonoma cheese, craft beer, garlic sourdough bread and meat. It made for a great road trip (to Mendocino) sandwich, the fabulous cheese plate for the wedding and great snacks for our hotel room. So as we were leaving, the nice guy who let us in, kept letting others in, past closing. Such a nice gesture to be able to stay open a little later, so that people could get their last minute needs at a local market.

We came in for breakfast on a Saturday morning and they were definitely busy with a line out the door. Despite the crowd, all the staff members were welcoming and kind. No one seemed flustered or made us feel rushed. We sat on the patio and enjoyed a piece of apple crumb bread (gf), loaded cheesy toast with avocado, a peluche (stuffed crispy roll), and our coffees. My mom and I each had a lavender latte with oat milk. These were awesome! Rich and smooth with a hint of lavender, not overly sweet at all. My dad had a mocha that was also very tasty. The loaded cheesy toast was delicious and the presentation was better than what you get at most boutique cafes in SF or LA. The almond pesto absolutely makes this dish and the spicy mayo drizzle on top is the perfect kick to complement the melty cheese and creamy avocado. The peluche was very good as well-- flaky, crispy outside with roasted potatoes, scrambled egg, and cheese in the middle. You never know if the food is going to meet your expectations when a kitchen is busy on a weekend morning, but it was all tasty and nicely presented. Apple crumble was also stellar! This is the kind of local coffee shop everyone hopes to have in their hometown. Will definitely be going back here with my parents whenever I'm in town for a visit! :)

The food? Absurd. Borderline offensive to every other meal I've ever eaten. I ordered one dish and ended up emotionally attached to it. Every bite tasted like a chef looked deep into my soul and said, "I can fix you." The wings and Caesar salad are impeccable. And the town itself? We ordered quite a bit of food, including the burger, fish and chips, cauliflower, and chicken wings. To their credit, all of the food was very good. The issue was the service. We waited close to an hour, our water wasn't refilled, and no one checked in to see if we wanted more drinks. The staff hinted a few times that they were understaffed, but it was hard to fully understand given the restaurant wasn't nearly half full. What made it more frustrating was watching a table that arrived 15-20 minutes after us get their food first, including one of the dishes we ordered. Our appetizers also ended up coming out at the same time as our mains, which was disappointing. We probably wouldn't have ordered them had we known. That said, the food really was great. I hope this was just an off night, because the kitchen is clearly doing something special, especially for such a small rural town. But the service made the experience much harder to enjoy, and we were honestly very close to leaving and going somewhere else before the food arrived.
