We visited The Boonville General Store for breakfast, and were surprised to find it wasn't a store at all - just a cafe. The interior was cozy with rustic decor and a few indoor tables. However, we chose to sit in the outdoor area near the entrance. I ordered an Iced Horchata Latte with an extra shot of espresso - delicious, extra shot definitely needed! For food, I chose the Goat Cheese and Tomato Omelette, which was pretty tasty. However, everything it came with was extremely mediocre. The "toast" was barely buttered sliced bread, and the potatoes came as massive wedges that didn't have much flavor. Service was friendly and decently quick! read more

Wow, probably one of the best breakfast burritos I've ever had - and I don't even like breakfast burritos! My partner and I are camping at Hendy Woods and we originally stopped by for a quick coffee. We saw them making these huge breakfast burritos in the kitchen and they looked SO good that we made a mental note to stop by again before we left the next day. I am so happy we did because it was DELICIOUS - hot, fresh ingredients, gooey cheese, toasted tortilla, spicy flavorful salsa on the side. Burrito heaven. The items behind the glass at the deli counter looked amazing as well. I saw tres leches, giant quesadillas, hand pies, cookies, carrot cake - yummm. Torta. Definitely try it. When I come up to Mendocino from the Bay Area, it's a long drive. As you get closer, the options for food starts to dwindle. Things get even harder when you are in Anderson Valley and you are trying to wine taste. Gotta get some food right? Check out the Boonville General Store. First time we came 5-star. Today, really lacking. It's Sunday at 1pm and they were out of the first 3 items we asked for, and the servings were super lacking. Grilled cheese was tiny, burrito was so so, and forgot sour cream, ham sandwich only had pickled onions on one small part (daughter thought it was her fav sandwich last time this time didn't think much of it, chicken salad was an old chopped dry chicken, etc. I get the sense they've been able to raise prices exorbitantly over covid as they're not cheap, but have somehow disconnected from quality, value and customer. I have been here 3 times and ordered off the specials twice: pastrami sandwich and quesabirria tacos. They were both so delicious! Do not pass up the Birria tacos if you see them. I got them on a Monday and not sure how they run their specials, but they were off the hook. They weren't greasy, but certainly rich, flavorful and made with freshly made tortillas, high quality pork and plenty of fresh onion and cilantro. They realllllly hit the spot. The consomé was nice and flavorful as well. It had a wonderful garlicky taste with a nice subtle undertone of clove. The pastrami sandwich was served on some nice hearty sourdough. The pastrami was nice and fatty but not greasy: the sandwich itself was very simple: pastrami, cheese, caramelized onions. I added avocado for health and to cut through some of the richness of the animal fat, however it would be just as delicious without that addition. There are plenty of great spots to sit outside on picnic benches. There is no eating inside, I think because of covid and the inside area is quite small. They have quite a variety of freshly made pastries and cakes such as carrot bread (yummy, moist and dense), scones, cookies and so on. I recommend their homemade cinnamon sugar donuts, which are warm when you come in the morning :) they are fluffy but also a bit cake like so it's a great balance. I am a donut connoisseur after all...in case you didn't know.. The service is amazing too. The ladies here are pleasant, polite and hardworking. Sadly, it appears that the majority of the clientele are tourists: older Caucasian crowd with not much of a local variety or diversity. I imagine the prices aren't very affordable or feasible for many of the true locals as their land, culture and value has been decimated by the privileged outsiders who want nothing more than to develop and infiltrate this sacred area. Honestly, two huge tacos(see photos) made with everything made from scratch, and an Arnold Palmer (all made from scratch) for less than $20 is an absolute steal, but for the majority of Americans that is very expensive. You can buy a lot more groceries for that price. Since many of their customers appear to be well off, retired and what not, it would behoove them to leave a generous cash tip whenever possible. I'm sure the hardworking local ladies and their communities will greatly appreciate it! This place is always busy so they are constantly working to prepare food and provide excellent service. I worked in restaurants for 15 years in various positions (mostly a waitress) and it is truly back breaking work! Thank you ladies for making all of my experiences so pleasant. Keeping a smile on your face while serving rich, unaware, entitled clients takes a toll on your spirit. I am truly grateful that your business exists. You have done a wonderful job! read more

I ended up eating the other half of my sandwich at Toulouse Winery just down the way and it was perfect. If you're not in a sandwich mood, they also have soups, salads, pizza, daily specials, and they serve breakfast. They also have the most adorable front patio with a few picnic tables and a great view of the town! If you have time, take advantage of that bad boy and enjoy your meal on their patio. In addition to their lunch and breakfast items, they also sell wine, bottled drinks, snacks, baked goods, and coffee (and hot drinks). This is a tough one. I loved that it was a family owned general store and loved the customer service there. I also really liked how cleaned the place was and the atmosphere... I guess what I didn't like about the place was the food and coffee. I ordered the breakfast burrito and could tell the cheese was not a good cheese. Wished they shredded their own cheese instead of using the pre shredded ones. The burrito was also very liquidity, where when i picked up the burrito, the excess liquid from the veggie was seeping onto the place. I like it when my coffee is served hot but not boiling hot. I ordered a white mocha but it tasted kind of burnt and wasn't sweet enough. Wished I loved the food and coffee as much as I loved the service. Maybe in the future I'll stop by and give it another go if I pass by here again. read more

Chunks of diced tender chicken salad with capers. Problem with this sandwich is they used way too much oil. Not sure if the capers were in oil or the lettuce is dressed in oil.. after a few bites your hands are covered in oil. We ate half our sandwiches- wrapped the remaining and left. An hour later we stopped for a break and I pulled out the chicken sandwich and the oil had saturated the paper. I had a bite but the oil ran down my hands and on shirt. Not sure about the bad reviews, but we really liked this place. The Boonville General Store is a farmstand-like deli in the sleepy town of Boonville. It's a great place to stop if you're just passing through, or to sit and drink iced tea outside. It's a no-frills kind of deli a with a few tables inside and a some picnic tables outside. (If weather permits, sitting outside is just lovely - there are rosemary bushes next to the tables, bees buzzing by, and a grapevine growing out of a barrel.) Customer service was friendly and the food was good. They offer a whole variety of sandwiches - cold and hot - soups, and sides. Sides include a lot of fun premade foods, including honey mustard coleslaw, beet salad, potato salad, chicken salad, and fancy cheeses. Also noteworthy is that I had one of the best, crunchiest, juiciest dill pickle of my life at this place - and that's saying something!! Overall, a lovely place to lunch. read more

Stopped off at the Boonvile General Store for lunch on our way back home from Mendocino. The menu looked decent, so we decided to stop in and order to enjoy on the patio in the sun. When I went to order, my first, second and third choices were unavailable. I settled on a sandwich and they were almost out of bread. I really almost wanted to just pass on eating here, but ended up ordering a ham sandwich for around $12.00. After waiting for my sandwich, we left and went next door for some wine tasting. My sandwich was dry and boring, just meat and cheese on dry sourdough bread. Pretty disappointing for the price paid. I could have walked to the store and made a similar sandwich myself. So when I looked over at the gentleman at the tasting room's sandwich and it looked MUCH better. There was lettuce, tomato, mustard and fresh condiments - it looked great. I asked him where he got that - same place as me. I guess they were out of that too. :( I know sandwiches are not the most exciting of meals, but my lunch was just boring.
