We had a fabulous evening to celebrate a special 50th anniversary with our children and grandchildren--13 total! The atmosphere was perfect--so cozy and comfortable. We tried this place while spending the night in Munising. My husband and I both had the Cajun seasoned whitefish. The fish was obviously fresh and well seasoned. I got the small portion and it was plenty. My husband had the regular portion. We splurged and got strawberry topped cheesecake and mixed fruit pie to go. The cheesecake didn't travel well and the pie was a bit dry. This place has been sold and will be closing soon to await the reopening. read more

New owners, new menu...finally reopened. Worth the wait. Today was their first day. For a grand opening, they operated like a well-oiled machine. Our server, Amanda, was awesome! We were happy to see By George beer on tap. We had the pretzel and beer cheese for an appetizer. We also had the whitefish chowder (very good). All of their salad dressings were home made. We had fish and chips (perch). It was good, as was the green Chile tartar sauce. I am not a cole slaw person, but my husband loved the cole slaw (with a hint of horseradish). We were recommended the Brownstone Inn and decided to give it a try. Let me start by saying we do not have high expectations and are not picky eaters. But this meal was not good at all. My husband ordered the salmon (which was $30) was extremely dry and overcooked. I had the rib eye and it was very chewy and I could barely cut it with a knife. The mashed potatoes that came with our meals were super dry and crumbled when you went to take a bite. The server and employees were kind and prompt, so no complaints on the service. This establishment is proof that advertising works. If you believe the print (and word of mouth) hyping this place, you'd think it is a 5 star restaurant. Even for da UP, it's mediocre at best. My bacon wrapped filet was so under cooked the bacon was soggy. The appetizer basket is 100% deep fried and although was decent, not worth the price. We'll go back to the steakhouse / bar east on M28 a bit for better food at a better price. read more

About 15 minutes out of town on a picturesque section of road. Made reservations, (imperatives due to COVID). The place Han perfect ambience and is COVID compliant. We stopped at the Brownstone Inn after kayaking the Autrain River. It is a very comfortable place with some history. The service was excellent!!! The best we have had in a long time! The French dip was loaded with meat and yes the appetizers are your typical fried food, but was still a treat for me since I have purposely cut back eating it.. So of course I was enjoying ever bite! My husband and I met a friend here for dinner. We were seated promptly and drink orders taken. My friend and I had the New York strip and the garden salad (very generous portion) and a soft, warm roll. I opted for the baked potato. My friend was either ravenous or her steak was delicious. She doesn't eat carbs so didn't have a potato or roll. My potato was average but my steak was one of the worst I've had. I ordered it medium rare and it was so thin I couldn't discern whether the middle was red, pink or brown. I had trouble cutting through the meat because of the fat and tendons. The steak was served with a crab cake which I gave to my husband - I don't care for crab. He said it was as good as you could expect for a frozen crab cake in the Midwest. The decor was cute, the wait staff excellent and the meal served in a timely manner. I would return again, but would never order the New York strip. read more

We were here just after snowmobile season so it was light traffic, which made it so great to enjoy without a huge crowd. I am from out of town. Saw the menu at the Visitor center in Musining and decided to make reservations. Had a great meal which included tender ribs and wonderful cole slaw. We were recommended Brownstone by some locals on the Pictures Rocks tour since a lot of the closer restaurants fill up quick after the boats come in. We were not disappointed! It looked like it was just two ladies running the place and they had some large parties seated before us. Service was super friendly and my hubby and I both order burgers and were very happy with them! The Greek burger had great flavor, I loved the olives and feta. The raw spinach was a good idea in principle but it was kind of slapped on haphazardly and full of stems. Cole slaw was delicious, reminded me of bread and butter pickles, I wish I asked for the recipe. Fries were also very good. Back when I still ate cheese, I ordered the mushroom lasagna special here on a very crowded night. They seated us at the bar, which made eating problematic. When my food arrived, I was astounded. It was a greasy premade 'lasagna' served on an old glass salad plate. It looked like it was just microwaved to order. Gross!! Keep driving to Munising! On our last night staying in Munising, we were looking for a decent dinner to end our trip. We stopped here late on a Sunday evening with two little kids, and all of us exhausted from a weekend of hiking. Food was great, service was great, and what really made the whole experience for us was the attention and kindness we were given when we informed the waitress our daughter had a medical diet. Everyone was great and found a wonderful meal for her to have, not a typical reaction with our past dining experiences in the area. Not a lot of great dining options in this area (unless you go into Marquette), but we had a great dinner and kind service here! We were having trouble finding a spot to eat a nice sit down dinner as we have a vegetarian in our family. The Brownstone Inn was more than accommodating to our needs. My sister declared it the brown lentil sandwich the best thing she has eaten since going vegetarian. Everything else was delicious as well. Hubs and I took a drive to Munising the other night and on the way home decided to stop at the Brownstone Inn. We've driven by it many times and this was the first time we've stopped. I had cheese sticks for an appetizer and a chicken strip salad. Cheese sticks were obviously frozen. They were still ice cold inside when I took a bite. The salad was a decent size but for $12.00 I expected more than cheap frozen chicken strips. Skip had his usual burger. I swear the mans never met a burger he didn't like but when I asked him how he liked it he said meh. Bun and meat is dry. With drinks and tip we got out of there for just over $60.00. Definitely not worth the price. Next time in Munising area we'll go back to Eh Burger. read more

Old Timey log cabin atmosphere is interesting. Robert, the waiter, was timid yet kind. He forgot to mention that the prime rib two of us ordered on a Monday night was actually cooked for their Saturday night crowd and reheated for us. It was not good! All the juice was cooked out of it and the meat was over done. Our first bill showed no discount for the poor quality of the food but after I requested the manager to reconsider, we did get half price on the prime rib dinner.
