This place is sooooo cute. The owner is super friendly and present. The staff is dope AF too. They have this policy(which I hate) where the WHOLE party has to be present to be seated, regardless if the majority of the party is there; so be mindful of that. We were honoring the life of my granny who recently passed and although they started to make us wait, they were flexible and allowed us to sit. Now let's get to the food. I ordered the deviled eggs(not my favorite), executive catfish breakfast with egg whites and munster cheese, and the mimosa tower. Bomb!!!!!! Other people ordered the steak sandwich, they loved it. My uncle got a pastrami type sandwich, he murked it! I don't usually eat all my food, my plate was clean. My cousin damn near licked hers clean. I was super excited about this meal but was thoroughly disappointed. Firstly, the restaurant was packed which wouldn't really have been a problem for me if there was space for the waiting parties to wait. We were all standing in the entryway blocking traffic from the waiters and exiting patrons. Once we were sat down the music was so loud that we could barely hear our waiter. We were practically screaming across the table to communicate. Our food came out before our drinks and we had to ask the waiter about said drinks. My biscuits and gravy were cold and my friends homestyle skillet was bland. Our food just wasnt good (except for the cheese fries and chicken sausage links, those were FIRE) Once our drinks arrived i noticed that my drink was virtually unsweetened even after i asked my waiter for a bit of simple syrup to add. Stopped by as it was on my list of things to do while in Chicago! We were seated immediately and they were very busy. Water was immediately provided and our server came right over, I cannot remember his name but he was quick, nice, and explained the menu as it was our first time and checked on us multiple times. The food was absolutely delicious, my partner had the turkey sandwich and I got the French toast flight with a side of crispy loaded potatoes, it was sooo good! I asked what the French toast of the week was and our server let me know. Unfortunately, I'm allergic to raspberry which was the flavor and he allowed me to double up on one of the other flavors. Although the service and the food is great, it was quite loud, the music was loud and I typically don't have any issue with that. I think it is a tad too loud because the volume of the music is so high, that everyone has to yell in order to be heard. The space is set up to utilize every inch, our server had to step to the side multiple times to let others pass or kind of hover/lean over the table. First and foremost let's start off with it is Black owned and they have a vibe in here. This being my first time to Chicago and just trying spots this on the top of my list to visit again. The service was really good, even when they have a crowd going. Just have some patients and you good champ. The food was on point as well. Literally did everything I needed it to do plus more. Came in with a friend with no reservation and was told that there were no tables. There were plenty of tables, even tables that were meant for four people had two people on them, meaning that any of those tables we could've been at. The two people who were at the front gave off a weird vibe like they didn't want us there and hurried to put us on a waitlist. They said it would be a 10-15 minute wait, received a text message saying our table was waiting 45 minutes later when we had already chosen and gotten food at another establishment. Our original server was not in the best mood which negatively affected our dining experience but the owner came out to our table and happily made everything right. Just no. I came in for a quiet birthday brunch and left regretting the choice. I waited 15 minutes before anyone brought water. Sam, my server, eventually showed up, but completely ignored me after that. No check-in after my food was dropped off (by someone from the kitchen) and my water sat empty for half the meal while Sam stood around watching other tables and doing nothing. Then came the kicker: an automatic 18% gratuity on a table for one. I've worked in the service industry; I normally tip 25-30% for good service. But if staff know they're getting 18% no matter what, what's the incentive to provide actual service? Mediocre food, indifferent staff and a business practice that penalizes solo diners. This place is amazing! I rarely do reviews on Yelp, but this restaurant is deserving. We ordered the deviled eggs, the executive steak & eggs, & the Benedict flights. The deviled eggs were the best deviled eggs I've had in my life. They were well seasoned and the shrimp on top added a flavor element that was original & superb. For the executive steak & eggs, the steak was also seasoned well. The gravy with the mushrooms elevated the meat. You're able to choose how you want your eggs and I chose scrambled. This dish includes a side choice of house potatoes, fruit, or hashbrowns. I got the hasbrowns, but loaded, which included bacon, cheese, & a side of sour cream. This was delicious. Lastly, the Benedict flights were a seasonal item, and thus, warranted our exploration. The four flavors included a jerk chicken with Alfredo cream, lobster with a hollandaise sauce, crab with a pineapple chutney, and pulled pork with a truffle glaze. All four of these were FANTASTIC, but my two favorites were the jerk chicken and pork benedicts. Coming here was absolutely an educated decision. We're from California, but I will definitely be coming back to Chicago to experience this place again! read more

My boyfriend and I were visiting Chicago this summer and, feeling peckish of a weekend morning, decided on The Brunchery to relieve those pangs. We were quickly seated, and our waitress, Elvira, came over post-haste to get us oriented. Finding out this was our first time visiting, she immediately whipped out a phone and started guiding us through images and video of some of their more popular dishes -- a unique experience for us both. We couldn't quite bring ourselves to dig into the OTT glories of their various pancakes, but both greatly enjoyed our choice of omelets and hashes. They're obviously willing to make menu adjustments, as I asked for zucchini, which I find to be a culinary offense, to be left out of Franny's Skillet, and the dish was delivered gourd-less. (Gourds! Who needs them???) A special shout out to both Elvira, waitress extraordinaire, and also to Jose, who came by regularly to fill water glasses and make sure we were enjoying ourselves. Both were friendly beyond the call of duty, and if I were back in Chicago, I'd return to The Brunchery any time. read more

Visiting Chicago to celebrate my birthday and we had brunch at The Brunchery. We ordered biscuits & gravy with a side of maple apple chicken sausage, And the country fried chicken. The maple sausage was disgustingly unpleasant, they had a weird teriyaki type glaze and old. The country sausage gravy was packed with sugar and lacked basic salt & pepper seasoning. Never had sugar based sausage gravy, disgusting. The hash browns were bland & cold. The chicken was fried to perfection, juicy but also lacked seasoning. Overall not what I expected or have ever experienced for brunch food. Customer Service was also slow and staff seem restless. The ambiance was a vibe, but very loud! We came in and it was packed, so we opted to sit outside. We had ordered but didn't receive our water until we got our food, which was about 15 minutes after we ordered. It took a while to get everything we needed to eat as they didn't bring utensils, sauce/syrup, or napkins with the food and brought them out one by one, making our food cold by the time we ate. We didn't get normal utensils or napkins, think of the ones that come in plastic more like a school lunch vibe. No one came and asked how our food was until we asked for the bill, we had no refills of water, and the service was overall terrible. I get the lemon zest French toast every time I come here and it's usually great. Last time I came, it wasn't cooked through and every piece was raw/mushy in the middle. Not looking to cause a scene I just wanted to let staff know it was undercooked that day. A female manager came up and told me that it was my fault it was soggy because I "left it sitting for too long" (I ate it immediately) no apology, just annoyance from the manager. She gave me a 15% discount on the French toast alone which amounted to a $2.70 discount on a $90 bill. Had family visiting and the response started our day on a pretty sour note.
