My first roast dinner at The Brunswick (part of the Yelp group!). Food was great, staff were lovely. I had the beef for main and a brownie for desert. The beef was delicious - very little fat and no gristle. Can't fault the food at all. Main and desert came out quickly. The toffee sauce on the brownie is something I'd pay for on it's own. read more

Go get funny down the Brunny! Except if you do you won't be laughing, especially when you sample the food. Instead you'll be overcome with joy! Ok this review's started a bit silly so I'll start again. The Brunswick is a fabulous pub on all levels. Firstly the venue - massive bar area but with some cosy corners to get tucked into. Next to this a fab venue which is used for many events throughout the year and is particularly busy during the fringe festival. I've seen many acts here, the highlight being the infamous Mr Pineapplehead! Underneath this huge floor plan is another hidden gem - the cellar bar which has lots of craft beer stashed away. Beauty!!! The beer selection is good with some traditional favourites and trendy/tasty beers too. Food. A year ago or so I went to eat here and I must say it was mediocre. Previously they'd had a little fling with a well known burger creator in Brighton but sadly he left a bitter taste and a closed kitchen for a while. Since January they have take back control of the kitchen and have a real master at the helm. The food is very reasonably priced and delivers on all levels. The pork belly for example would turn a vegan into a carnivore. If you haven't been here then go - you won't regret drinking the beer, eating the food or experiencing the warm welcome delivered by this excellent establishment. read more

Upon seeing the Sunday roast menu, I was surprised to discover that there were no chicken options available. After speaking with the chef it was pleasing to hear that this was due to animal welfare concerns, it's always good to know your food provider cares where the meat comes from! The vegetarian nut roast was quite tasty, but I really cannot forgive the lack of vegetarian gravy... it's such a pivotal part of a good roast! I should have tried the fish option instead. Desserts were amazing, I had a hazelnut parfait and the other members of my party let me try their brownie/shortbread stack. I'd go so far as to say the desserts were the best part of the meal, but I do have a very sweet tooth. Service was friendly and swift, I'd definitely recommend coming here for a roast. Even if the music was a touch too loud for my liking. read more

What a Brighton gem! I have only just recently discovered this place and I am officially a fan. The Brunswick may at first seem just like a normal Brighton pub but, as I have discovered, it's so much more. The pub is spacious and comfortable, with lots of different seating options and even a huge outdoor area which can be taken advantage of in the summer months. The drinks are cheap enough and the food looks superb, though I've only ever been her to drink or watch a gig. Not only is the pub itself lovely, the pub is also one of Brighton and Hoves's best music venues. With a cosy, but cool space off the main bar dedicated to showcasing musical wonders, The Brunswick has transformed itself from pub to hub. I went along last night and was blown away by the music! The talent was very impressive - a nod to The Brunswick's good taste - and the venue itself was really awesome. There was plenty of space, despite the big crowd and, though heat is unavoidable at a busy gig, the room was totally bearable throughout the evening. The staff add an extra star to this place - they're friendly, smily and efficient and make the whole experience all the better. Beyond this, it's quite hard to pick out why exactly The Brunswick works, but it does. Trust me. There are plenty of pubs about 2 minutes away from where I live but I will be continuing to walk to 25 to The Brunswick over and over again because it is worth the little jaunt. Please, if you haven't tried it out already, get your butts down here and either have a drink or get your socks blown off by some musical talent. You can thank me later. read more

I should love The Brunswick. It's a ten minute stroll from my house. It has live americana, blues and jazz bands. It serves hearty plates of sunday roasts in the autumn and winter. And it has a massive beer garden with lots of seating. The problem is, there's no atmosphere. Zero. Zilch. Nada. It's also so big inside and out, it feels like a chain pub. The only advantage The Brunswick has going for it right now, is if you want to meet friends with lots of kids, you can guarantee there'll be enough seating. Otherwise, there's a zillion other bars I'd rather go to! read more

Ooooo I like this place. The atmosphere on a Friday night was fun and busy, the food was great (burgers are the best choice), and the craft beer (YES 360) was spot-on. There's plenty of space to relax and chat with friends away from the bar area, or you can hang near the bar and have a bit more crowded/"happening" feel. I enjoyed a Sunday roast at the Brunswick today as part of the first Yelp Brighton meet up. I'd been in touch with the chef at the Brunswick over the course of the week to keep him updated on numbers and to discuss the menu. Having noticed no chicken option on the menu I asked him why this was (a few people in the party only eat chicken) and he explained that free range chickens are still treated quite poorly; and organic grass fed chickens would end up being too expensive to put on the menu. He offered to source some free range chicken or a poussin especially for us which I thought was above and beyond! As for the actual roast, I went for the shoulder of mutton - it was melt in your mouth delicious, I didn't want it to end! Gravy was a veal and red wine jus... Sooo delicious! Veggies included carrot, broccoli, and also romanesco cauliflower which I was very impressed with, it's one of my favourite vegetables. For dessert I had the hazelnut parfait. I don't actually know what parfait is, but it was sweet, nutty and delicious. Overall I was really impressed. It's so close to where I live I would definitely come again. read more

Stopped in here for a quick drink to start off our night. I kinda wish we had hung out a bit longer. They have great happy hour prices, good selection of beers and the most comfortable seating! I had a cigarette out in the garden and it seems like it would be a lovely place to hang out on a summer evening. Place was dead empty though and I am not sure what that says about crowd appeal but maybe it gets livlier at night. The music they played was good, Empire of the Sun. read more

Just off the seafront in Hove, at the bottom of Holland Road you'll find the popular Brunswick. Well known as a music venue, it has gigs on most days including the free Open Mic every Monday and the Jazz Jam on a Tuesday (also free). It's also a great place to eat out and have a few drinks. Happy Hours from 4 8pm Mon -Thurs see pints from £2.50 and wine reduced too. Also, everyday but Sunday, for the past few months they have had great meal deals on: main courses for a fiver. really good scran at a bargain price. Highly recommended pub. read more

Everyone should experience at least one gig at The Brunswick! What a truly fantastic venue for a gig! Really friendly staff, reasonably priced drinks, (not sure about food as haven't tried any in there... yet! But it looked delicious) and all in all a great atmosphere. Very spacious, with a fantastic and relaxing outside area, large enough so you're not crammed in tightly or sitting on a strangers lap! The gig itself was through to a separate room, which felt intimate and relaxed. You had the option of sitting at small, candlelit tables, where many chose to have something to eat, or standing further back. We propped ourselves against the second bar (not in use) which was comfortable and from where we had a fantastic view of the stage. All in all, a fantastic way to spend an evening. In terms of providing regular entertainment, in the form of comedy acts and live music, The Brunswick is one of the best places in Hove. The functions room is always buzzing to the beat of some local group and the bar tends to be quite busy. I agree with Sarah-Jane in as much as the atmosphere isn't exactly euphoric but nonetheless I wouldn't say it was bad. On many summer mornings the large beer garden has helped me deal with a hangover, as their food is simple and cost-effective. Serving standard pub grub you get what it says on the menu with no frills and thankfully no glitter. I wouldn't be adverse to drinking here more often. read more

Nothing so elevates the mood and butters up the world like a lovely pub lunch. The aptly named boozer is appropriately located just opposite Brunswick square (past the pebbled section of the beach) and having been for drinks before I was familiar with its vibrant environment, this evening had live music in the next room and a sporadically filled bar. With only a minute left of serving time, I was pleasantly surprised that they even considered our order but the ever encouraging staff weren't shy to present me with their traditional, if a little conservative, menu. After a brief wait the ever attentive staff brought forward our food. The meal was one of opposites. Whilst I found myself with a hearty 'meat wrapped in meat and cheese' dish (which is a heavy equation) my friend was presented with the crisp vision that was the crab salad. With both selections being at the high end of the price menu at £8.95, the chicken, although in abundance, was quite standard whereas the crab salad looked and tasted fresh and light. Nice friendly atmosphere and food is served throughout the day until 9pm. There are a variety of daily specials and on Sunday roasts and BBQ's are available. read more

As one of the more proactive pubs with regards to regular entertainment, The Brunswick is a great place to catch anything from comedy to live music and beyond. With a separate staged room for such performances simple drinkers won't be too disturbed by whatever noises are happening next door, which often serve to give the place a better atmosphere. On normal days thee place sometimes lacks life, as it's quite large and therefore seems empty even when it's half full. In the summer it's a great place to catch some rays as the massive sun terrace provides respite for many beach goers, hangover-sufferer and families alike. Serving some fairly standard but satisfying pub grub it's ultimately a suitable enough place for most occasions, however, I wouldn't expect anything fancy. It's simply a decent local with plenty of live entertainment. read more

I have been to the Brunswick many times over the years; everything seems to have improved except the service. It's as though the staff don't even want to be there. We recently had our wedding at the Brunswick and can't rate it highly enough. With 200 guests of all ages, live music, an outside caterer, heaps of decorations and a cinema for the kids in the upstairs function room, it could have been a tricky one to pull off- but Andy, Fergus and the team did a great job of making it all come together. From the day that we booked the venue through to 2am last Saturday when we left our party, the team made us feel very welcome and well looked- after. The pub itself is fantastically adaptable, with lots of candle-lit nooks and crannies for chatting and a brilliant spangly dance-floor, which is hard to find these days. The sound system was excellent and the bar very well stocked, keeping everyone happy with proper mojitos and interesting beers through the night. As former Hove residents, we always enjoyed the live music and comedy at the Brunswick and we are delighted to have chosen it for our wedding too. read more

I have had the pleasure of putting on a few charity nights at The Brunswick over the last 18 months ,& the venue is an amazing space if your looking to put on a night event ,music or otherwise ,the sound is great & Tom the sound man is very helpful & as a great ear for getting the best sound whatever the type of event you're putting on .I've found the staff very friendly & are always helpful.the pub itself serves some great beers & food ,& all who come along to the events go away happy & smiley ,so I would highly recommend if you're looking for somewhere for a gig try the brunswick ,oh & theres a great outside area too read more
