Got this recommendation from our waitstaff at The Kensington, he was absolutely right about this spot.
Definitely popular, go early, prepare to have a pint or two and wait, or make a booking to ensure you get to try this spot.
I am vegetarian, Hubs is not, we both had plenty of delicious options on the menu.
Prawn cocktail is not the American version, so don't go Karen when it doesn't come with spicy ketchup, but try it anyway. It was a fantastic starter.
And the warm brown bread with butter is hard for us carb-lovers to turn down.
If you're veggie, get the wild mushroom & barley pie. OMFG. It's a lot, but not too much. We had walked miles that day and were starving, and I only shared a taste with the hubs, wasn't up for splitting.
Of course the fish & chips looked magical, huge portion, definitely could split that, and I watched lots of other seafood plates come by that looked equally amazing. They bring Tabasco with the oysters, which is always a plus in my opinion, and they had some phenomenal desserts as well.
Also, I know it's almost an abomination to not get a pint or a g&t at a pub, but their cocktail menu deserves some accolades. If you like palomas, definitely give theirs a try. It was a top 5 for me, arguably top 3. I observed several other interesting cocktails get nods and shares at other tables, so don't feel like beer is your only option.
We will definitely be back. And we'll bring our daughter and her grad school buddies next time. read more
