Writing all these reviews has made me realise just how much money I spend on food (i.e. not from…read morethe supermarket). I must endeavour to find a cookbook and rediscover the lost art of knowing exactly what you are eating. That said, when food tastes as good as it does from Saffron Express I'd just say put the whisk and chopping board away my friends. I don't think its been here very long but me and my friends discovered this the other week - we were cruising around in my friend's car looking for somewhere we could grab some food. You see, after a few bad run ins with waiting forever for home delivery, we prefer to take matters into our own hands. Saffron Express is pretty good value for money - for under a tenner, you get three different curries plus loads of pilau rice etc. With cheap prices comes mediocre tastes but we were all plesantly surprised. We'll definitely be trying here again for the next film night - good food to share/ mix and match.

Come on, let's face it. Even if you aren't massive on Indian food, you know how good onion bhajis,…read morepakoras and samosas taste after a few pear ciders. Poppadoms, naan breads, chapattis and pathoras, zingy citrus salads and raita, pickles and chutneys and tomatoes and tons of picky bits that make up the starters and accompaniments to most Eastern meals. And if you're feeling even more peckish and want some curry to wash those down, well look no further than the great value Saffron Express. With such low prices, as Sophie says you can afford to mix and match - my most preferred way of eating. It's simple, clean takeaway food, not focussing on too many things at once (I'm always wary of the place that tries to accomplish kebabs, pizzas and curries in one kitchen. It's just not natural). I discovered it via my Prestwich companion who took me there to grab a few stomach-liners for our evening of beverages and it worked out splendidly. In fact, I'm a bit upset I don't have one of these down the road from me. Never mind, just another excuse to go see that chum again. I mean, not that I'd focus on the food... wait, yes I would.

Really?! Main courses , poor salad to accompany and the fish was both "raw and off" brought to their attention the manager/owner admitted the meal was "RAW" but "TRIED DEFENDING" the off/foul smell , stating it was fresh !! ,(something the waitress openly admitted she too found worrying.) So drinks flat and against health /allergies were still served to us ,having to share starters bread, and foul smelling fish main course ,we opted out of more drinks,tea/coffee and desserts,we left with a £5.00 deduction on the bill !!! We threw that back in their face by tipping the waitress a £5, we just hope they got the sarcasm. The chef needs sacking and the owner/manager needs to take "honesty lessons" from the waitress -who by the way was lovely. Dreadful meal. Needless to say we wont be back.Their loss.

Winner of the Customer Service Awards 2008, this restaurant and lounge bar is located just off Heaton Park and offers an all-round great dining experience and an alternative night out. They've created a very relaxing yet informal dining and drinking environment here. Most of the mains are priced very reasonably between £4-5, and the choice is very comprehensive. The last time I came here I think I ordered the Chicken Tikka Badami (marinated in freshly ground aromatic herbs and spices, cooked with ground almonds, fresh cream, pure ghee and basmati rice) which I highly recommend. If you want to try their dishes but aren't in the mood to make the journey, then don't fear, they'll come to you. Look online for their menu, and you can even order here too.

True the revamp is very good not sure whether its finished though? in need of curtains so you don't feel like you are sitting an a gold fish bowl, more subdued lighting and some plants? flowers on table? We were very disappointed lets say its a good job we could laugh! we ordered 2 starters 2 mains with 1 rice and 1 nan and 2 desserts glass of tap water and a soft drink. The portions were tiny one of the main meals was 'just warm' and I had to send my dessert back as it was FROZEN. They microwaved it and I ate it but £3.20 for a tiny bought in dessert! This is a great shame as the venue is very good but no atmosphere only 3 couples there at 8p.m not the new beginning they anticipated I'm sure. The waiters were friendly however, and smart. Best thing about the evening my friends company and the Nan Bread- the rest of the food poor. But don't take my word for it this is just my opinion.

As a yelper, one thing I like to do is find businesses that have disappointed me in the past, and…read moresee them finally warrant an upgrade, especially one that was previously given one star. I am delighted to confirm that this branch of Sainsbury's Cafe, located inside the Sainsbury's at Heaton Park has done just that. They have quite an interesting range of food now including paella and even a corned beef hash, as well as your standard supermarket cafe food, such as breakfast, soup and chips. The chips here are gluten free, and fried separately so that is great to see. Remember, that food here should be suitable if you are gluten free, although the book says so otherwise because they are basically saying it just to cover themselves, but if you let the staff know, they should be able to advise you on how it is cooked, such as letting you know if the chips were cooked with anything else for example. My most recent visit, saw me order a Corned beef hash, the price is reasonable considering what it would cost in a restaurant and my meal was okay, it wasn't fantastic, and although a little spicy, I did enjoy it, and I liked the addition of a fried egg for an extra 40p. I do feel presentation could be much improved, but for a supermarket cafe it is what you have to expect. The gluten free chips are also quite nice too. Hygiene standards seem to be improved, with it seeming a lot cleaner here, and a new type of "Table number" stands being used, they is also a good range of newspapers here to read while you are in a cafe, but with it being in a supermarket, I'm sure they wouldn't mind you taking a newspaper from the stand downstairs, to read with your drink / food. Overall, Sainsbury's is quite good for gluten free in the cafe, with a good selection of options, beating Tesco and Morrisons by a mile. I do feel this branch deserves 3 stars, as it is just your average supermarket cafe, with reasonable food and a reasonable menu.
