There is a good choice on the menu, from chillies and curries to home made soups, paninis and baguettes, to some good vegetarian options including an excellent veggie breakfast (which is served all day). Great desserts, cakes, lovely coffees too. The young man who served us was really nice. We'll definitely call in there again the next time we visit the town.

When it first opened there were lots of difficulties with unbelievably slow and inadequate service, but that has slowly improved recently to the point where it is now fairly slick. The food is refreshingly different and the specials board is changed frequently so if you are a regular visit you are guaranteed a change from your previous visit. I love the atmosphere, it is cosmopolitan and yet not pretentious, quite relaxing in fact. I have not had a poor meal here and would recommend it unless there is a hen party happening which is not ideal as we discovered on our last visit!! So do ask when booking because it did spoil our quite romantic meal as you can imagine. All in all a very positive experience generally.

I had to come to the smallest town in Wales to have the best meal of my five nights in the country…read morethus far. We were staying in the hotel in which Blas is located, so having dinner there seemed like the convenient thing to do. We started with soda bread with welsh butter and salt. The butter was creamy and soft with just the right bit of flakey sea salt. The soda bread was malty and flavorful. My husband and I both had the halibut. Items on the "grill" menu come with only the protein on the plate. A side of Blas potatoes (whole new potatoes with butter and chives) comes in a small bowl on the side. Greens and vegetables are available as an additional order. We ordered the salad. The halibut was clean and flakey, perfectly prepared. It came with brown butter and cornichons. The potatoes were soft and flavorful. The greens were crisp and the honey vinaigrette was sweet without being cloying. My husband had the cheese plate for dessert, while I had the cheesecake with poached pear and pear sorbet. The pear was mild, so the flavor disappeared when eaten with the cheesecake, but tasted separately the flavor was there. I am not a fan of contemporary art, so the design aesthetic of the restaurant is lost on me, but the quality of the food being turned out in this small corner of Wales is well worth a visit. They had a good choice of meals, I went for haddock & chips with soft drink & sat inside to eat. Service was quick and cheerful, the food was excellent especially the haddock coated in a light batter matched by tasty freshly cooked chips - neither was greasy. It's no wonder they were busy doing a brisk trade. Well recommended. I've given a fifth star because they l kindly allowed me to store my electric bike in their storeroom while I had my meal. The menu offers starters at £7.50-£7.95, mains around £18 (except fish and seafood at £24 and steak at £29), desserts at £7.50, as well as a choice of ice creams and sorbets (£3.50-£7.50). They offer a range of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. We chose Sea Bass served with Lemon Parsley Caper Butter, Herb Roasted New Potatoes, Garden Salad with Buckwheat & Broad Beans with Honey Mustard Sauce & New Leaf Microgreens (£24); and the one of the vegetarian options: Glamorgan Crumble a tower of Leeks, Carrot, Breadcrumbs & Mature Cheddar Cheese, Garlic & Herb Roasted New Potatoes, Glebelands Salad, Quinoa, Bean, Vegetable Salad & Fresh Herb White Sauce (£19.95). We followed this with Dark Cherry & Marzipan Bake Vanilla Ice Cream £7.50. Overall, the food was very good, except that the seabass was (disappointingly) over done and therefore falling apart. I always think it's a little odd serving a cold side salad on the side (or in my case underneath) a hot dish, although overall the flavours did work well together. The Glamorgan Crumble was very tasty. Service was a little manic: some staff seemed to run around all evening, and we were served by four different people during the evening. (One was very nice, two were a bit brusque.) They were busy, but we had booked (and were expecting) a table in the downstairs area with a river view, but were shown to a different part of the restaurant area. There were, however, a number of reserved tables which remained empty through the evening, so it seems like they had a few no-shows. Overall we had a nice evening: with two glasses of wine, the bill came to £75 for two, excluding service. It's firmly worth four stars, and of course you're paying for the location, but at these prices, getting the fish right and calmer service would land a five.

The Spilman Hotel is friendly, family-run hotel conveniently located near the middle of the town…read more Downstairs is a pleasant bar and a surprisingly good restaurant. The rooms are recently refurbished but based on the original layout so they tend to be a good size with high ceilings. The inclusive breakfast included a good selection of cereals and also a traditional cooked breakfast options. The cooked breakfast was pretty good, although the sausages were rather bland. Dinner was much better. Starters cost £4.50 to £6.00 and included a fish cake and a ham hock and smoked chicken terrine. Mains range from around £10 to £20 and included a pork fillet dish, a stuffed chicken breast and Fillet steak with a pepper corn and mushroom sauce with potatoes dauphinoise or chips and seasonable vegetables. Puddings included some traditional English sweets, and cheese and biscuits. The food was very good, well prepared and well seasoned, but the gaps between courses were a little long. The hotel has a small car park which is rather difficult to find and the entrance is challenging. Drive North East past the hotel down to the church, bear left around the church and come back down behind the hotel on St Peter's Street then onto King Street. The entrance to the car park is a narrow alleyway on the left just after the Hugh Evans butcher's shop: swing wide to the right and turn hard left into the alleyway. Be prepared to fine tune your approach because the alleyway is very narrow not wide enough for pedestrians to pass a car, so breath in as you drive down! Once you have gone down the alleyway the car park itself is reasonable with room for about 13 cars. I enjoyed my brief stay at the Spilman's Hotel, and the dinner in particular was a very pleasant surprise: recommended.

Much bigger on the inside than it looks, the Warren is relaxed and comfortable with a youthful vibe which makes it feel really inviting. Service is great.
