I've eaten here twice now and three stars because it was downhill from my first experience! The first time I ate at The Cape Restaurant was December for a work dinner. The ambience was so nice and the food was fantastic! My group got a few appetizers to try- all were tasty and so were the drinks. I noticed it was a different menu than the most recent time I went. The first time, I got the braised short rib and was very pleasantly surprised with the portion, flavor, and tenderness of the meat! Our server was great as well and helped us enjoy a fantastic evening. This past Sunday I went again with a small group of people around 4. There was only one other group eating in the restaurant at the time but they left shortly after we got there, leaving us the only ones in the space. Our server may have been new and not well trained- he didn't write down our three orders, which could have been fine but he had to come back and ask us what we ordered before he put it in. We got the smash burger, fish sandwich and chicken piccata. The burger looked nice, two patties and plenty of toppings, but my fish sandwich was absolutely lacking. At first, it looked great, but the more I ate the more I realized there was hardly any fish in there. To me, the fish seemed about 1 cm thick with a huge coating of breading sandwiched between a bun on either side... the coleslaw needed to be sharper, and the tartar sauce added to the heaviness of the meal, not the elevation of it. I felt I needed another meal after I finished. The chicken piccata was decent but was heavy on the lemon, to the point it wasn't enjoyable to finish. First time visiting and the holiday decor and frills are very festive. A 2 story restaurant in the heart of The Avalon. South African cuisine ; the menu has a variety of options for sharing and reasonably priced entrees, appetizers ,salads and sandwiches. A few friends ventured here for the Annual Avalon Tree Lighting. We were able to sit at the rooftop giving a nice view. The service was favorable and food was tasty. I had bite of the hummus , popcorn, Brussel sprouts and sushi. Our group did a variety of appetizer and the drinks were great. Best place to park is behind Apple Store or parking deck behind Rumi's. This place is too cute and decorated for the season. We loved the pink Christmas vibes. Was a great little lunch pop in. We sat at the bar for a few minutes before our table was ready. The bartenders were very nice and attentive. Honestly could have probably just sat there for our lunch. Once we got to our table we asked some questions for suggestions on what to try and our server obliged. The fondue was really good and filling. The fish sandwich was perfectly crispy, but could have used more fish/a larger piece of fish as I did feel like the fish to cabbage ratio was off. The fries were good, but nothing special. The sushi was fresh and spicy, but with two other sushi places in walking distance I'd probably not go here just for that when there are other tasty looking menu items. I've had friends who have been here multiple times, so I finally decided today was the day I was going to try it. They have indoor, outdoor, and rooftop seating, but they have a 20% gratuity for the rooftop. Either options are such a vibe. We sat outside, got greeted in timely manner, and our server was great! We went ahead and ordered the apple cider tiki drink, the lemon caper chicken piccata, kale and grain salad bowl, and a side of fries. Our total with the tip came up to around $86. The portions were slightly smaller than expected, but the flavor was there! The apple cider drink was good too, and the fries were seasoned so well (I'm a huge fan of fries). Came here for valentines and got their prefixed course that they offered for that day. Service was good. She refill our water a lot every-time it was almost gone. I would say the main course was probably the best out of the appetizer and dessert they had. The drinks were okay as well. Coming to the Avalon always feels so relaxing. This restaurant sits right in the middle with beautiful decor. The entryway is very tight and was congested. I wanted to sit bar side and could barely get to the bar area. Decided to go to the rooftop being that it was covered. When I checked at the hostess stand I was escorted outside then told oh it's a 20% gratuity. It's kinda odd to ask if that's ok before I get to my seat. Sitting at the bar, everything someone walked past my stool was being rocked due to the loose tiles. When I asked to move to a table I made two trips carrying my food and beverage because I didn't get any help. The rooftop is very nice, covered and has fans. The fan was directly next to my table and I have to say sitting next to it was a tad overwhelming as my garnishments were flying away lol. I tried the cabo drink which was tequila and it was ok. The space is currently decorated for the holidays, and there are cozy igloos outside for dining in the colder weather. The Popcorn and Tuna Tartare were standout appetizers. The Kale & Quinoa Salad with Asian flavors was excellent, and you can add salmon, shrimp, chicken, or tuna to make it a heartier dish. The Lemon Artichoke Arugula Salad was bright and refreshing. We had a lovely dinner here. We came on a busy Saturday night without reservations so we sat at the bar and the bartender was so lovely and generous with her time. The manager also came over and offered us some discounts and extra wine to make sure we were comfortable. The steak was delicious and the fries were very well seasoned. Also had the malva pudding which was like a biscoff cookie sponge cake. We hope to go back soon as the cheeseburger looked delicious. read more

Service is as expected - it's good. Menu Selection is nice although they do not offer a lunch menu. It is good however pricy for lunch. Lunch for two was $80 - no beverage - no starter - no appetizer- no dessert. Just two lunches. No leftovers! Bang for buck is better at Rumis Kitchen but it's still a cute spot. They have a rooftop which was not opened. It's a cute date spot or girlfriend lunch place. We noticed some older men with younger women. Caesar Salad with Grilled Salmon: Very good. While in Alpharetta recently, I stumbled across this little gem located in the Avalon and absolutely had to share the experience. The Cape is a chic coastal dining restaurant inspired by cuisine & wines from Cape Town, South Africa. They are open seven days a week, offering indoor and outdoor dining options. The rooftop patio features views of the entire boulevard and inside The Cape's main dining room is surrounded by colorful textured pillows, custom surf boards, and hanging botanicals that span across the ceiling; all designed to transport guests to a chic beach bungalow. Service was excellent and the food was superb. I'd recommend booking a reservation in advance and adding a bookmark for this restaurant. It's a unique experience not worth missing out on. Being in the Avalon, the area is super cute and surrounded by all kinds of shopping. The vibe is really cool and they had music playing on the rooftop, which was really fun. It is small but quaint. The server kind of made it feel like we needed to be in a rush to decide what we were going to order consistently coming back every couple of minutes which is fine except we were catching up with friends. We hadn't seen in a long time and so we were a bit slower to look at the menu. I ordered a wine, but they were all out of it. They offered me a different wine, which was OK. My friends both ordered the halibut and I ordered a shareable filet mignon over rice option. It was good. The fillet was a bit crispy in places, and I had to scrape that off. My friend said the halibut was amazing. The menu is very different and I had to thankfully utilize yelp for pictures to figure out what things were. It is my friends go to place, but I don't know if I would rate it as great. read more

I love the upscale coastal décor but it still feels comfortable. The décor is clean and fresh but eclectic with lots of color. I've visited The Cape twice and the staff is always nice and willing to share their favorite dishes. I've tried a lot of dishes so here we go: Tuna tataki- The tuna is fresh and the dish had a nice hit of acid I appreciated Crab dip- Nice and creamy and I love the choice of gruyere cheese Mussels- Mussels can get pretty basic so I won't say I loved them but the sauce had a really nice flavor Ostrich sliders- This may be the one dish I didn't care for. It needed a little more flavor and the ostrich was dry Hummus- One of the best I've had Spicy tuna sushi roll- I didn't care for the sriracha but it's a good roll Scottish grilled salmon- Sooo good and the addition of the capers and olives give it a Mediterranean flavor that I loved. The experience wasn't worth it. I could've went to South City Kitchen or Superica. We chose this restaurant because it's popular on IG for a holiday pop up theme. The decor was underwhelming. Instagram can make anything look good. They didn't take down any of the regular beach decor so having that mixed in was weird. Depending on where you sit, you might find yourself constantly being hit by a candy cane because they hang super low. Our server was trash. He was uninterested and absent. However, I watched him be hyper attentive to other tables. I originally ordered the steak. It had no seasoning. It tasted like cooked liver. The service was excellent. The host promptly greeted us, retrieved my reservation, and seated our party of four. Our server was also very courteous and attentive throughout our meal. Arriving around lunchtime, we opted for a selection of fries, sushi rolls, Mac and cheese and Brussels sprouts, all of which proved equally satisfying. For my main course, I chose the tacos accompanied by coconut rice. The portion size was generous; I could only finish one of the two tacos on my platter. A couple of additional points to note: this establishment offers a gender-neutral restroom, and the signature candle of The Cape adds a distinctive touch. As soon as I viewed their pink Christmas theme on IG, I knew I had to visit. I made reservations through Open Table for indoor seating. The igloo option was also available at the time for outdoor dining. The restaurant is close to Apple Store and Rumis, I recommend parking in the garage closest to the hotel and Starbucks. It's a very short walk. Restaurant was tastefully decorated and absolutely beautiful. Best decorated Christmas pop-up, in my opinion. Mikaila was our server and provided excellent service and assisted with recommendations. I wasn't completely satisfied with my meal, it was so-so. Frittura Mista wasn't seasoned and had no flavor $18, Classic Caesar Salad was good but needed more dressing  and pepper $12, crab dip was bland $16. I did take the dip home and season it with creole spices, and it was yummy. Although I didn't enjoy my meal, my friend liked her hummus appetizer and said the mussels were perfect. I guess I ordered the wrong items, or my taste buds were still off from being sick earlier in the month. The food was a 3 for me, and service was a 5. Since my friend enjoyed her meal, I'll rate this 4. I would also return again and try different items. Maybe I'll come back for their Valentines Day pop-up. read more

I have been wanting to check this out and what better way than for their pink Christmas! Reservation was easily made online. Parking at the Avalon is always hit or miss and it was quite busy during the holiday. The Cape is located close to the Apple Store. I was seated right away while I waited for my friends and we were right by a pink Christmas tree! I love how pink it was decorated inside. It was really festive and of course they had some Christmas themed drinks. We ended up ordering a bottle of the sparkling rosé and it was so bubbly and yummy. We also split a handful of sides and they were all delicious! I love the crunchy shrimp roll. The dressing for the grain bowl was so good!! And the frittata mista was filled with lovely seafood that's been fried. The only one I didn't really enjoy was the crab dip. The pita chips were too oily and maybe too thick and therefore wasn't crunchy, but soggy in a way. The service was great and it was so busy. So...I'm not going to lie the frozen eggnog drinks are to die for ! But when I asked for a side of mayonnaise... For my french fries... And the server came back, saying I wasn't allowed to have a side of mayonnaise.. we thought it was a joke . It was no joke... Before wrapping up our staycation we popped into this lovely spot that's in the middle of the Avalon by the hotel. I was looking forward to biltong and so happy we tried it! We weren't staying long but did a Sunday snack and cocktails. The charcuterie board hit the spot to sample a mixture of their offerings. We also had been sipping Tequila most of the day so stuck with that. Our server was helpful, fast and attentive. There were only four people upstairs so we felt like we got amazing service. Biltong def.: is a form of dried, cured meat which originated in Southern African countries (South Africa, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Namibia, Botswana, and Zambia). Various types of meat are used to produce it, ranging from beef to game meats such as ostrich or kudu. The cut may also vary being either fillets of meat cut into strips following the grain of the muscle, or flat pieces sliced across the grain. It is related to beef jerky; When I visited S. Africa this was like a delicacy at the supermarket and served during our safari excursion. I really love it! I can't wait to come back and try more dishes on their menu like ostrich sliders, mussels and halibut. read more

The wait staff and service was great, they were very helpful and accommodating. But I don't eat out for the service, I eat out for the food. The food was way overcooked and way overpriced, very dry very little flavor and seasoning. I expected more African dishes on the menu but they were almost none. I will not be going back here because overpriced and overcooked is a really bad combination regardless of how nice the waiters are. As for ambience, there are much better choices for dining music than incessant techno dance music, very poor choice. read more

The Cape is one of my go-to spots for girls night out! It's well decorated, has great outdoor seating options (patio plus rooftop seating!), and consistently good food. Order the biltong or charcuterie to start! We went with charcuterie this time, and it didn't disappoint. We also had the crepes, which have a nice, unique flavor. The spicy sushi is my favorite thing on the menu, so of course I ordered that as well. It has a nice kick without being too spicy! Was so excited to try this restaurant as I've already tried their sister restaurant Yebo Beach Haus and loved it! The Cape Restaurant and Beach Bar is located in the Avalon with the cutest decor. We made a reservation for Mothers Day for 430 and the restaurant was rather slow which was a benefit. For starters, we ordered the crab dip and friturra mista and both were fan favorites. It was a group of four of us and both appetizers were easily shared amongst us easily. I would definitely recommend the crab dip, it was 10/10! I ordered the Cheeky Peach to drink. It was actually strong but very nice. I would recommend having a driver if you are intending on drinking more than one of these lol. For $14 I'm not mad at it! Comparable to the taste of a mimosa. The presentation was absolutely stunning as well! I ordered the halibut as a main course and I absolutely enjoyed it. The portion size wasn't extensive but very filling especially when paired with an appetizer. It had a very fresh and clean taste to it, not over-spiced or over cooked. My brother got the peri peri tacos which came with a side of rice and he enjoyed those as well! Overall, I definitely enjoyed my experience here. My family has been here a number of times, but tonight was my first visit to The Cape Restaurant and Beach Bar at the Avalon. We started by sharing the charcuterie board. It was a unique mixture of meats, cheeses, crackers, and miniature pickles. Our server, Logan was really amazing. First, she was super attentive. Second, she gave excellent recommendations. Logan recommended the Bobotie crêpes. They tasted light, fresh and very flavorful. This was my first time trying South African cuisine, and I noticed nearly every dish had at least a touch of heat and spice. One of my daughters had the halibut, and the other daughter had a salad with blackened chicken. Both the halibut and chicken were well seasoned and tasted slightly savory. The only reason I am not giving five stars is because most of the entrées were a little too pricey for me. I understand it's located at the Avalon, and this you can typically expect to pay more.
