Winner, winner hamburger dinner! What a fun find while visiting Boston! My "Capital Burger" was delish and cooked to perfection! And, their beef blend is supplied by Pat LaFrieda - a well known New York beef purveyor. I'm also impressed with their creative mix of ingredients on their menu items! My Smoked Bacon Old Fashioned with bacon infused Woodford Reserve bourbon, maple syrup, Bitters and candied bacon started my dinner with a home run cocktail. Immediately brought to our table were a round of waters and a small mason jar of their in-house made pickles - ever so slightly sweet and well balanced. Hubs eyes are always bigger than his stomach so for starters he ordered Smoked Gouda Cheese fries with chopped Poblano Peppers, Eggs & Bacon deviled eggs with candied bacon and a cup of New England Clam Chowder. They were all very good. Their menu features 5 creative beef burgers and one in house made vegetarian burger. My Capital Burger was a delicious layering of caramelized onions, Wisconsin Gruyère and shallot aioli - so good! I opted for the side of mixed greens side salad with vinaigrette and it was light and fresh. Fernando was a rock star server and made great recommendations. We came here with a large group, and overall the food was actually pretty good. Unfortunately, the service and cleanliness left us with a very disappointing experience. I ordered a Blue Moon beer, and the waiter initially said "okay" and took my order. When everyone else at the table received their drinks, I was the only one left without mine. After waiting for quite a while, I asked where my beer was, and only then did the waiter tell me they didn't even have Blue Moon. I had to choose another beer and wait all over again while everyone else was already enjoying their drinks. The worst part happened at the end of the evening. We were among the last few customers still in the restaurant when a mouse suddenly appeared and started running between the tables, picking up crumbs from the floor. Seeing a mouse in the dining area completely ruined the experience and raised serious concerns about the restaurant's cleanliness and hygiene. The food was decent, but between the poor service and the mouse running through the restaurant, I don't think I'll be coming back. read more

Cooked a perfect medium, fat patty, cheese pull on point, dip with the aioli..... chef's kiss frfr. The fries were crispy, seasoned well, no complaints outside i couldn't finish them after the burger. It is FILLING. The calamari was perfectly crispy with thin coat of batter, large rings and mustache pieces, and chili peppers/ hots was a great addition. Love this style calamari. The lady grabbed the shroom burger and her's was also juicy, glistening..Goodness! Ample, ample amounts of mushrooms chopped and topped! About $70 bucks for the meal plus tip. Happy with our dinner! If you are a burger enthusiast, definitely go check out their capital burger. Prices are fair (and even cheap for a restaurant in such a busy area) and the atmosphere is incredible; such a nice looking restaurant. It is a surprisingly filling burger so go hungry. Service was fast and nice. The only "downside" is that menu is not the biggest, but that shouldn't be a concern if you want to try their burgers, especially their capital burger. We ordered a burger each and an appetizer to share: - the capital burger - roasted wild mushroom & Swiss burger - pan fried calamari All of their burgers are made w/ 1/2 lb of their beef blend. Definitely some meaty burgers! We each had half of our burger & felt quite full. We requested for our burgers to be medium and absolutely LOVED that they actually made the patties medium. It's not often that that happens. The calamari was tasty & we devoured it, along with the pickled peppers. The calamari itself was not dry at all. I also really enjoyed the complimentary pickles. They make it in house and the brine was perfectly salty and not too sour, slightly sweet. I was tempted to drink the pickle brine! Weekday lunch visit: -- "Capital Burger" (their signature offering): A French onion style burger with speckled and well melted Gruyère cheese, soupy caramelized onions, and shallot aioli, on a sizable bun dotted with both black and white sesame seeds. Juicy medium rare center as ordered, but not much crusting on the exterior (the two are not mutually exclusive), and very light seasoning. Cheese flowed like lava. Onions were soft and noticeable. Very good burger even with the two shortcomings. -- Mixed Baby Greens: I traded fries for something more healthy. Well dressed with a tangy concoction and some carrot shreds and cherry tomatoes in the mix. A good complement to the burger. Service was VERY disappointing. The place was empty on a Friday lunch, with only one booth occupied, yet I got seated on the other side of the partition, literally inches from them. Then my server doesn't show up for roughly 15 minutes. Then I don't see the server ever again after receiving my order. Nobody came by to follow up. After finishing my meal I waited roughly 15 minutes again with no check, no server, no service, no pulse among the front of the house. No manager either as far as I could tell. I calculated the payment, left cash, and departed. I expect better from a place with "Capital" in its name. Really enjoyed our lunch here. We got seated within about 10 minutes on a very busy Saturday, particularly during graduation.. We went in for a simple lunch and soft shrinks, and came in under $45. Service was great, very friendly and attentive. For a casual restaurant I thought this was very good quality and I would eat there again. Of particular notice, they chicken sandwich and the veggie burger came on these nearly picture perfect buns--Something that often gets pounced on and smashed in the kitchen. This is a great son to The Capital Grill. They uphold the legacy of exceptional food, beautiful dining atmosphere, and good service. The interior is warm with the rich woods, steel touches, glowing amber columns, wood floors, and beautiful tile touches. The staff was kind, attentive, and helpful. These were some of the best burgers we have had, prepared as we requested, high quality meat, and unique touches like the torched cheese, and even the pick was customized for their restaurant. The kung pao Brussels sprouts were unique and tasty without being too spicy. We will be back to try more of the menu. Things I loved about The Capital Burger: very convenient location and great walkability to shopping on Newbury St. The outside eating area is very cute, located in a little downstairs alcove with umbrella-covered tables and a cozy feel. Things that could use a little help: Customer service was slightly stand-offish from our server. However the manager came to our table to chat and ask about the food, and he was very nice. Service in general was slow, it took quite a while for even our drinks and appetizers to come out. Our server didn't check to see if we needed drink refills; she didn't check on us at all really. As far as my meal, I enjoyed my fries, but the veggie burger was lacking in flavor. I've had better at Burger King to be honest. Overall, I don't think I would return to The Capital Burger. Hands down one of the best burger spots in Boston! From the moment we arrived, Michael, the general manager, made sure we were taken care of. He personally assisted when there was almost an issue, handled it with professionalism, and got us seated in a timely manner. Whether you're in Boston for work or pleasure you can't go wrong eating at The Capital Burger. It has everything you expect - including a full beer menu, pub seats and large portions. There isn't too much of a choice to be had here; chances are you're ordering their Capital Burger and just deciding whether you want their standard fries or covered in smoked Gouda. Because the upcharge for the cheese fries is pretty reasonable (+$4) I opted in and was glad I did. The fries are well-salted (without being overly so) and pair well with the cheese. Combined with the burger and obligatory beer you'll probably feel like taking a nap afterwards but that's not necessarily a bad thing. My bartender/server was friendly and checked-in frequently and I was greeted quickly and warmly by the hostess when entering. We would order this again. - Bacon Cheeseburger - $22 - I enjoyed this one quite a bit as I enjoy some sweet tanginess in my burgers. Cheese is perfectly melted and the burger again was cooked to the correct temperature. Very juicy. If you like those typical "BBQ" burgers I'd give this one a go. - Parmesan Truffle Fries - $9 - We really enjoyed this. The truffle essence was very present but didn't detract from the good quality of the fries (obviously it was a truffle oil but enjoyable nonetheless). - Grapefruit soda - $4 - Wife really enjoyed the "pop" of this soda! I'm a huge fan of The Capital Grille, so I was excited to try the Capital Burger with my girlfriend. I will say, the service here is great, and they were able to accommodate our hour late arrival to our reservation (oopsie!) without any issue on a packed Friday night. However, I don't think the food was worth the price. I think you can get better burgers at Shake Shack or Five Guys. We started off with the Bavarian pretzel which was good, but the cheese fondue was just okay. I always get my burgers well done (not a fan of pink for ground meat), and 9 times out of 10 they can still make it juicy, but my burger was extremely dry - not great. The truffle fries were the best part of my entree. Additionally, we were here for nearly 2.5 hours, because it was super busy and they seemed understaffed. Honestly, I might pass on the Capital Burger and hit up the Capital Grille. read more

The capital burger was great - very juicy and flavorful! The service was disappointing - our server gave us waters but never asked for our drink orders. We also asked for lettuce and tomato as a side because we forgot to mention it in the order (but shouldn't the server have asked if we wanted to add it?), and my husband had to drag out eating his burger while waiting for the toppings... eventually he gave up waiting and ended up eating half his burger before the server finally came with it. The truffle fries weren't my favorite - I thought it was too heavy handed on the truffle oil. My husband liked it though. I ordered the pan fried calamari which is fried calamari with chilis. It was great when it came out but unfortunately the chilis were in brine so it quickly made the calamari mushy. We ate in the bottom level, which seems more like a bar area. "The Capital Grille's Embarrassing Cousin: from Bos-ton ." On a recent trip to Boston, my wife and I planned to take a friend to a trendy Newbury Street restaurant that, apparently, considers walk ins a personal insult. Fine. Their loss. As we're walking away, we spot The Capital Burger, proudly sporting the same logo and font as The Capital Grille - a place we frequent in New York City and where the service is usually so smooth it just about tucks you in at night. So, naturally, we thought this was fate...for a fleeting, shimmering moment; we were wrong, but we did not know it yet. We stroll in. "About a ten minute wait," says the hostess. Great. We hand over a phone number, grab drinks at the bar, and settle in. Ten minutes turns into twenty. Still no call. I approach the podium to investigate, where the hostess is deeply engaged in her iPhone - probably solving world peace with every swipe to the right. She glances up and says, "Oh, yeah, your table is ready." Of course it is. The place is practically empty. Evidently, the concept of seats being available was too esoteric for the staff to grasp. Little did we know that those lost twenty minutes would be the last peaceful moments of the evening. We ordered a round of clam chowder, a massive cheese fries appetizer, and three burgers with side salads--side salads, mind you, only because we were already committed to those fries. Then the waiting begins. And continues. And evolves into its own geological era. Our waiter disappears into the void until we finally spot him--walking past us with a birthday brownie for a big party in the back, wearing the expression of someone who suddenly realizes he left the infant carrier on top of the car. It is now abundantly clear he never put our order in. Eventually - at 9:45pm - all our food arrives at once. Except, crucially, the cheese fries. The waiter then discovers the time, looks startled, and informs us that the kitchen has already shut down the fryer, so we won't be getting fries after all. Terrific. We ordered side salads for absolutely no reason and refused to eat them, in protest. He apologizes and says they will take 25% off the bill. Okay. Mistakes happen. We're trying to be gracious. We ask for another round of drinks to salvage the night, only to be told: "The bar is closed, and just so you guys know, this building closes at 10pm. Can I get you anything else?" Well, let's see. You just served us all our food, we have not taken a single bite, and you are basically telling us to eat like we are competing in the Nathan's Hot Dog contest...but sure, let me think if I need anything else...maybe some cheese fries and another drink? Fast forward to after 10pm. We have inhaled our meals like fugitives. No check. No waiter. The busboys laugh helplessly when we ask if they have seen him. We finally start to leave, assuming we now live here rent free, when the waiter sprints over, breathless, and says, "Sorry, I couldn't find my manager." He hands us the bill--with zero discount. Of course. This place is unworthy of operating under The Capital Grille's logo. Frankly, it drags down their entire brand like an anvil. It makes me question whether I should ever step foot into one of their establishments outside of New York City again, because clearly no one is administering anything resembling operational control. However, in the interest of fairness: The burger itself was excellent. Shockingly excellent. The lone bright star in an otherwise black hole of service and the only reason this review is not negative stars. I've seen Capital Burger a hundred times while walking on Newbury and now I finally went in for a dinner with some friends. The interior was sweet! Usually there can be pretty small real estate on Newbury Street for any type of storefront, and when you walk in there's a hostess, a few high tables directly behind the hostess desk, and a big bar directly to the left with huge flat screens. When we were getting brought to our seats, we ended up walking upstairs to a second floor. The second floor is so cute! Lots of Boston and Boston Marathon wall art, dark wood interior, big windows overlooking Newbury, it's a great vibe. Our service was pretty slow but that just meant for a more relaxed, chill, hangout approach to dinner. It's better than feeling rushed outta there so we'll take it! Our server was wicked nice too. :) Everyone ordered a burger with fries and we all liked it. The patty is very thick and chewy here and it wasn't really juicy.
