From my personal experience and after speaking to fellow pals who like me are in the process of…read morelearning to drive, it was apparent that finding good driving instructors was a dying breed! I always managed being a city girl to travel around town using public transport but now I have a little toddler to look after it became more of a priority to get on it. Compass pro driving has the ideal approach to teaching for me, well structured (every lessons is geared to move you on to the next stage, they don't drag these lessons for the sake of it like others instructors do), relaxed lessons (of course I cant talk for all their instructors but Al has the knack to make you feel at ease) with great balanced feedbacks. Makes a real difference when trying to build your confidence as dwelling on what you haven't done right is so soul destroying, it definitely helps in making the lesson enjoyable and progress faster in my opinion. Lessons incorporate your normal practical bits but also uses ipad and camera technology for different learning types. Lessons are flexible, of course you don't want to take the mic but on occasions I had to cancel or change the time, it goes both ways though it is great dealing with understanding instructors who are considerate and fair. They have affordable prices from £24 a lesson but you can get them much cheaper if buying them in bulk (which I recommend btw). Finally but more importantly, they care! It shows on their pass rates and how proudly they talk about previous pupils who have just passed. As a coach myself I truly believe their level of commitment and investment is fantastic. So yeah 5 stars from me and I haven't yet put a date to sit the test but I am fully confident I have the best instructor to get me there!

People wanting driving lessons in Edinburgh, U.K. DO NOT go with a guy called Darren Moonie!! He…read moreuse to work for the company 'Red' and then with 'smile' (smile - was him and a partner so this is nothing against smile as I didn't book through them) now he works for himself and has 'moonie' on the top of his car (do not know if this the full name for his business) Darren was referred to me through family friend. I booked a block of 10 lessons and he knocked £10 off, he seemed a nice guy, had a laugh and what not. I was quite a nervous learner and felt really comfortable in the car with him. So, sounds great?? Nooooope! He was always late.. 5,10,15 mins etc and sometimes just wouldn't show up! He cancelled on me all the time! He wouldn't reply to texts to let me know what was happening or when I was getting my lesson! I took a brake from him (short break) and then continued with him again - you'd think I'd learn first time round eh?! - 3 lessons in to a new block of 10 and I asked for my refund. He said that would be fine.. I am still waiting a year and eight months later?! He had fed me bull stories (when he has replied to me! He even offered free lessons to take me to my test?! Hahahah yeah right mate, you would have to show up first!) saying that I wouldn't get my money and he would have to take it out his own pocket but I would get £100 by the end Feb 2017 did that happen?? Noooope (and to think that this guy was gonna give me half back in Dec 2015 but I told him to wait until after cause I didn't like the idea of his kids getting left short for Christmas.. probably actually most definitely wouldn't have got it back anyway!) There's been issues with him not refunding people in the pass (seen it online) and he also asked a pupil to pay for petrol and they never got their dosh back (surprise!) I do know a couple of people that have passed with him but they have also commented on him being late and cancelling! If you are okay with that then go for it but remember you a paying them for the training, you wouldn't be able to casually go to your work late all the time or just cancel last minute, so I don't understand how he can be so unprofessional and get away with it?! Anyway choice is yours, you've all been warned!

Not the best , though not the worst either. GOOD POINTS…read moreVehicle/car provided good condition and clean. On test day, instructor accompanied me to test centre. He would pick you up practically anywhere in Edinburgh for lessons. Some motoring schools are quite area specific and would not come to you if you do not live in their catchment area. BAD POINTS Sometimes, instructor came late and left early. He seemed to have so many students in his book and his schedules were often very tight ( maybe they were too tight) to the point that it did not allow for much delays between lessons. It gave me the feeling that £££ is more important than the student passing the test! Failed test several times while under this school, and although instructor was keen to give discount to attract new students (he would leave special discount vouchers in various places to get new business, I learnt). I had asked for discount as I had so many additional "blocks" of lessons from him, but my request was refused. Ended up spending a small fortune under this school but still did not pass test. Finally left this school and went to someone else and I passed after just a couple of lessons . I was pointed out one or two important tips on driving and on what testers look out for, by the driving instructor from the latter motoring school which were not mentioned to me while taking lessons from "Smile" . Those extra "tips" might have helped me pass the test. PS: If you are looking for a driving instructor, it is good to seek for one who has had experience or who had worked as a Driving Test Invigilator. That way, he/she would know what you should look out for and that should help you in your chances in passing your test.
