Had a lovely Wednesday evening at the Carousel Bar & Lounge. The seating is first-come first-served. Found a seats for two at the rotating carousel bar after waiting only a few minutes at around 9:30pm. The bartenders were lovely and friendly, and didn't put any pressure on us to order quickly. Our drinks were fast and I ordered some meatballs from the bites menu as well. Loved the drinks and the presentation. The servers were not rushing us and let us feel comfortable taking our time. There was a wonderful live band that elevated the ambiance nicely! Would highly recommend!
We love the carousel bar. If you are lucky enough to get a seat at the bar, you're sitting on an actual seat from a carousel, and the bar turns. If not, there are plenty of other comfortable seating options scattered throughout the bar. On the weekend, there's always an amazing band playing and they often encourage dancing. The drinks are delicious and you can order from the bar or there are servers walking around who are friendly and helpful. We were there after jazz fest, and it was extremely crowded so we ordered the bar, took our drinks and found a comfy seat in the lobby where we could chat. We may have seen someone famous while we were there so always keep an eye out. It is a popular spot for people visiting the city.
My daughter saw this bar online and definitely wanted to stop by for a drink We arrived Monday afternoon around 4:00pm. We didn't have to wait long for a carousel seat. The bar area is extremely loud but to be fair there were a lot of people. It's fun to feel like you're "riding" around the bar. Unfortunately, the bartenders seemed to lack any personality. To make matters worse, I did not appreciate the bartenders lifting garbage bins over the bar to other employees. Both times I had to cover my drink. Not to mention, the smell from these bins was "old, stale beer" I'm not sure this is the most appropriate or sanitary way to get rid of garbage. I'm glad we stopped by to see it but don't think we'll be back.
Such a unique bar in NOLA Inside the famous iconic Hotel Monteleone in the French quarter this is a must stop when visiting They offer a great cocktail list - you sit at the bar which is basically a merry go round and every 15 mins it moves slowly- now don't come on a full stomach or if you get dizzy as it can have some side effects so come for 1 or 2 cocktails only It's so busy here so there is always someone waiting to take your seat Bartenders were friendly enough and knowledgeable Great vibe with NOLA jazz music in the background!
This was such a treat. The ambiance is beyond spectacular. The fact that there's a huge carousel in the middle of a hotel revolving at a snail's pace is jaw-dropping. Although it was very crowded the bartender was wonderful at keeping the drink orders straight and pouring them quickly. I was in Needle but energy boost so I ordered an espresso martini. To my surprise although it was dark on top it was very clear and translucent at the bottom and I was surprised by the chocolate shavings instead of the traditional three espresso beans. I also appreciated the live music happening in the lower level of the bar it's look less the beautiful fixtures throughout the space. Getting a seat at the carousel is difficult but there is ample seating scattered throughout and once you make it to the carousel people do not want to give up their seats.
What an experience! The bar was always soooooooo busy and so loud. But when we did find a seat it was absolutely worth it. We also splurged a bit and reserved their cocktail class at 10am that came with 2 cocktails. Marvin was absolutely amazing as well as Cory the bartender. The candied hibiscus drink with Prosecco was fantastic. The hype is worth it and a must see if you're in the area.
My friend and I waited about 20 minutes on a Wednesday around six and we lucked out with seats at the carousel! Our bartender was Parker, who was friendly and funny. We had a couple glasses of Prosecco. If you wanna have an Instagram moment, there are mirrors all around the bar. You just need to get the timing right.
I must preface this review by saying that I don't go to a lot of bars and I'm not a big drinker. I did stop in here on a visit to New Orleans because I was staying at The Hotel Monteleon but it was a quick visit as this bar is always packed full of people. Rightly so. The bar is very whimsical and has a rotating bar that turns like a carousel, hence the name, and it is obviously a favorite seeing as how It was overflowing with people every time I walked by during my stay here. Although it was super loud and busy inside, I really did feel like the bartender was doing his best to stay on top of everything and get to everyone and be friendly while still keeping a calm demeanor. The drink I had was well made but definitely expensive. The whole experience was definitely something I will not forget. I want to be honest and say that I intended to go twice before I actually stopped here, but the amount of people and the chaotic feel made me opt to do something else with my time. However, I knew I had to stop at least once during my visit and I'm glad that I did. My visit wasn't that long but it was memorable and I'm definitely glad I did it. This spot is just too iconic to miss, so don't be discouraged if it's very busy, it's definitely worth it experience at least once.

Service was prompt and attentive from the start, and ordering was easy with the beverage list accessible via QR code. The atmosphere is unique and lively--the rotating bar adds a fun touch without feeling gimmicky. Drinks were well-crafted and presentation was on point, though a bit on the pricier side. It does get busy, so seating can be limited, but overall it's definitely worth a visit for the ambiance and classic New Orleans vibe

It rotates very slowly, maybe a full rotation every 10 minutes. It's so fun to watch your friends shuffle next to you while your seat is moving. I had the most excellent dirty gin martini and had a blast at this bar. Must stop!
This bar was in our hotel and was always packed, even on a Sunday afternoon when we arrived mid-afternoon. People will hover around waiting for a seat to open at the circular bar. Instead we grabbed some seats in the lounge area and ordered drinks and truffle fries (recommended by some Yelpers). My Pimm's Cup was decently alcoholic and appropriately expensive for a hotel bar. Fries were delicious. They have live music on some evenings but we never seemed to catch it at the right time. The far side of the bar also has a TV tuned to sports. This is an iconic bar but honestly, other than the novelty of the carousel, it's like many other New Orleans bars.
Such a cool, historic spot you simply must visit for a drink and so snacks. And even if you can't snag one of the highly desired carousel seats, it's still a fun atmosphere to be in. I recently visited on a busy holiday weekend and the staff were attentive, friendly and helpful! If you get some bites, I'd recommend the fries and hot dogs! Simple classics for a reason.
On vacation in New Orleans, LA and we were told we just had to check out the novelty bar, The Carousel Lounge inside the Hotel Montelone! Atmosphere/Appearance: It's EXTREMELY BUSY and very loud in here. Lol. As mentioned above, the bar is located inside the hotel so once you walk in through the front door you enter the lobby then head to the right. It's a first-come, first-serve situation (at least it was for us at the time). So of course, the carousel bar is the highlight. It's a slow rotating bar rail and it's adorable. Lol. Almost the entire bar is eyeing any available spots so you have to be quick, but be respectful. However, there are tables and such sprinkled throughout the bar where you can hangout at as you stalk the actual carousel. My wife and I sat in the window which made for some excellent people watching. Lol. Eventually after what felt like an hour or we did spot some spots on the carousel, my wife held them for me as I closed the check then finally got to sit... and SPIN! The bar completes a full revolution every 15 minutes so you definitely won't get dizzy. Service: We had no issues here whatsoever. The staff is just super busy all over the place, but they didn't miss a beat. Food: For my first drink I checked out their Oaxacan Midnight which was like a tequila play on the Old Fashioned. It was delicious, a bit lighter than an Old Fashioned, but certainly stood on it's own. For our first appetizer bar bite we tried the Blue Crab & Corn Beignet which didn't come out as I was expecting. Lol. I'm not mad, I just pictured the big, fluffy things from Cafe Du Monde, but maybe stuffed with goodies! These were more like fritter than I absolutely loved so much I ordered a 2nd plate. Lastly we tried the BBQ Shrimp which was grilled to perfection with a good snap, excellent flavor and good char along with a tangy, cream sauce on top. Value: It's pricey. Food and drinks were decent, but a SMIDGE overpriced, but... they know you're going to pay because you're on vacation, you're a tourist and you wanna be in this novelty bar. Lol. Regardless, I had a blast and you can say you did too whenever you check this place out! In conclusion, I've now been there, done that. Lol. I don't have to do it again, but if you're in the area, check this place out. It's a good time. read more
I have heard that this place can be impossible to get onto but either were able to get in no problem. We stopped in in the evening and it was slightly busy but not out of control. W were able to snag two lovely seats near tge carousel where we could people watch the the carousel and the rest of the bar. Our drinks were lovely. I had a Candied hibiscus flower which was lovely and my hubs had a Ferrari (which was AWEFUL!), and then had a Campari on ice which he enjoyed very much (me: yuk!! ) Or server, Felicia, was AMAZING!!! We had a wonderful time, and I'm SO glad we had the chance to stop in on this spot. Highly recommend!! read more

The carousel bar inside of Hotel Monteleone is a New Orleans must. The drinks are amazing especially the Vieux Carré which the cocktail they are known for. The food is great and the ambiance is fun and lively. Order the truffle fries a nice cocktail and enjoy the ride. read more
We stopped by here during the weekend when we had some down time, just to see what it was about. It is the bottom floor of a hotel. It seems like it stays were packed, I'm sure because of how popular it is. There was no seating available, but we went to the bar in the back by the piano and were able to get a drink pretty quickly. The bartender also helped us snag a seat at the bar once someone was leaving, which was much appreciated! We only had the one drink, but the vibes were cool. Wish we could have sat at the carousel bar, but it seems like those seats don't come up often. I would visit again. Oh, and my drink was really good. read more

Stopped by the Carousel Bar on a recommendation from a friend because we had some time to kill before the early afternoon Easter Day parade. We sat at some side table seats for about 10 minutes before a spot at the bar itself opened up, and then we nursed a couple of cocktails for about half an hour while slowly spinning in the center of the room. Everyone goes here because why wouldn't you want to for the history and a carousel bar that rotates full circle every 15min. If you want to experience that great one and done for me! It's over crowded sitting at the bar is nauseating from the smell of spilt liquor and drinks all day. The service sucked complete jerks at the bar, for expensive gross espresso martinis I'd rather spend my money where it's appreciated. Btw do not try to give cash for your tab it's a trigger for the bartender. Do not recommend is my final answer read more
Amazing bar - definitely a must-stop for a drink! The bartenders were incredibly friendly. Even though it was busy, they made us feel welcome right away and got drinks out as quickly as possible. The drinks were delicious, and the rotating bar is such a fun touch. Make sure to check out all the unique details on the seating and around the bar. Carousel Bar was such a fun experience and definitely lived up to the hype. I had the Brandon Bramble, which is a must if you enjoy Hennessy. It was made with Hennessy, lemon juice, simple syrup, crème de cassis, St-Germain, and ginger ale, garnished with a dried lemon wheel and "Filthy" cherries -- smooth, refreshing, and perfectly balanced. My date had the Royal Street Heat, crafted by Sean Holcomb, made with St. George Chile Pepper Vodka, agave nectar, peach purée, Hellfire bitters, ginger beer, and a Tajin rim. It had the perfect mix of sweet heat and flavor. Both drinks were so good we ended up ordering two rounds while sitting at the rotating bar listening to a live jazz band. Watching the bartenders work while slowly moving around the bar made the whole experience unique and entertaining. Definitely a must-visit spot in New Orleans. read more
The most unique bar ever! The main attraction of this bar is that part of it is it essentially a merry go round. There are extremely limited seats on the merry go round, but it is beautiful and so fun to watch. This bar is in a beautiful hotel steps away from Bourbon Street. It is in the Hotel Montelone and everything about this hotel and bar is stunning. From the moment you enter to the hotel to go to the bar, I feel like I am royalty. It is stunning. The bar is always packed everytime I go, and it is for good reason. If you can't get a seat at the merry go round, there are other tables and chairs to sit at which is first come first serve. I've never had a problem getting a seat, I just never get a seat at the merry go round. Service comes up to you if you sit at a table, and the service comes pretty quickly. We got the champagne pink drink. The drink 'fuzzed' the whole time and was pretty cool to watch. It was also delicious. I love this bar and will always make a trip to stop by when I'm in town! read more
Has a fun time at this must visit bar in the Hotel Monteleone! Really beautiful and fun bar - the centerpiece being a rotating carousel bar! It is of note that it is extremely hard to get a seat at the actual bar but there are plenty of other seats and with a little patience you might just grab a spot! This was just as fun and unique as everyone says. And the cocktails were excellent. We went in the middle of the day and weee able to slide right onto bar stools, but the folks who came after us waited a long time. People who get a spot at the bar tend to stay awhile. read more

Located inside a hotel. A pretty famous pit stop while visiting the city with its a carousel themed bar. Came here with my fellow Yelpy friends. It's always an easy stop if you are bar hoping in or around the area, or just want to stay for a while to vibe out. Be prepared for the crowds. Or you can just go during off peak times. Enjoy the live music while there. Drinks- we ordered espresso martinis. They indeed kept my caffinated all night, lol. It took a minute at the bar, but that's to be expected. Enjoy! read more

The Carousel Bar took us three attempts to finally score a seat, but the adventure was half the fun. Our first try was a Tuesday during Thanksgiving week around 2pm, no luck, so we settled into the lounge by a gorgeous Christmas window. The service there was just okay (larger parties definitely got more attention), but both our drinks were great. I got a lemon drop martini, my boyfriend ordered an Old Fashioned, and I loved their linen coasters. Attempt number two was on Thanksgiving after dinner at Mr. B's Bistro. We walked in around 7pm to a packed room and a jazz band playing. We grabbed a little corner table by the carousel, and Angie, who was so sweet, served us the same drinks as the day before. The vibe in there is incredibly friendly, and truly everyone is on the hunt for that elusive carousel bar stool. We ended up chatting with another couple beside us who were a little more "aggressive" than we were, so they snagged seats before us even though they arrived later. But after two revolutions they generously gifted their seats to us, which is honestly the secret: make friends, and your luck might turn. Once we finally sat down, before we could even order from Parker behind the bar, a man tried to buy our seats (we politely declined). We enjoyed our drink, took our spin, and then passed our seats on to someone else, it feels like part of the culture there. It's a fun novelty and worth experiencing once, but I don't need to ride again. I do want to give a special shoutout to Sharese Carter from the hotel staff, who offered, unprompted, to take our photo and even suggested a better spot for it. Such a gracious, thoughtful touch that made the experience even more memorable. read more

Visited the carousel bar after my cousin's wedding. Walking in, I immediately smelled the smell of vomit. None of my party was concerned. After a few drinks, it didn't bother me either. We ordered old fashions, margaritas, and some specialty drinks. Most of the drinks were about $18. The bartenders were absolutely amazing!! They are the reason why I would return. They were so funny, personable, and made drinks worth the $18. There was live music that was really fun to listen and dance to. They also had the game on. It was definitely a vibe. read more

A friend of ours told us to visit this bar to see a fun jazz show. He gave us a great recommendation! They stuck to the carnival theme quite well with the bar setup. You enter into a dark-ish carousel bar, but once you step down there's plenty of lighting, fun music. And a ton of people. It was a diverse group of people from hotel guests to locals impressing dates to tourists in the area. Just overall a super fun vibe. Bars get busy as expected on weekends, but it's just a fun vibe. read more
It's got panache with cache location. Nice vibe. The drink menu is vast but nothing really for me. I ordered the espresso martini that was really good! Tip...When u make 3 at a time make sure they're all equally poured...I was on the short end of the pours. If you haven't been fve or a try. You will probably find it's one of those 1 & done places due to price. read more

I really just came in to visit the beautiful Carousel Bar on the first floor of Hotel Monteleone. It's such a beautiful concept, and I think it's a must-visit if you're in the area. This place could get more than five stars from me just for the service. My friend and I chose here for our last drink before heading home after an amazing first visit to NoLa. We had checked out at the hotel and our luggage was at the concierge while we came here to have a drink and take some pictures. When we were taking selfies and shots of each other with the beautiful carousel, one of the bartenders offered to take a few of us together. He was so nice and fun and went all out and took ten of the best pictures of our entire four day trip! Then the drinks were also expertly made with professional service. From there we were happily tipsy and got our luggage and got in our Uber to go to the airport. It wasn't until I got to my gate that I realized I left something very important at the bar! They sent it to me!! I am so grateful. Many of the other places wouldn't have taken the time. I am grateful and blown away by the world class service experience we received here. I definitely recommend this unique gem of a place. It was the cherry on top of our art, food, and music filled long weekend. Thank you, Anita and the team at Hotel Monteleone!!! read more

Stop 2/3 of our bar hopping day and such a cool spot in Nola. Sadly not lucky enough to snag a seat at the carousel but got a table with a view of the slow moving bar. For drinks we tried the spritz, old fashion, pink fizz and Oaxacan midnight. Bartenders were so friendly and being at the carousel bar is such a unique experience. Hopefully next time we can grab some of those coveted seats! read more

No. Just take a seat at the bar. They do get busy evenings and weekends, so try to go in the afternoon if possible.

Will be in town late on a Sunday, all day/night Monday, and Tuesday afternoon. What's my best chance at grabbing a seat at the bar? Have stopped by 2/3 times on previous visits and never got one.

Do we need a reservation?
No reservation needed, but it is hard to find a seat sometimes at the actual bar. May need to wait a little bit for someone to leave.

Are kids allowed?
Not after 6pm , even if you're a hotel guest. Really isn't for kids .
Is this place wheelchair accessible? Are there any lower tables?
Yes but you have to come in through the garage on Bienville St. Few tables in Carousel Lounge but plenty in Criollo Lounge. It's actually one big "L" shaped room. Very easy to find as Lobby isn't that big and staff will show you.
