The short version is this: If honesty and integrity are important to you, RUN in the opposite…read moredirection because this company embraces neither. If you want the details, read on.
I will first say that my new deck is spectacular, and that Daniel and his team (Garrett, Floyd and another young man whose name I can't remember) were terrific. Daniel was a hard-working man who took his job seriously and did it excellently. If you could hire him off of G and S books, I've no doubt that the pickiest of clients would be pleased. Unfortunately, he is part of G and S and I would never, ever use them again.
Several neighbors have already stopped by the house to admire my new deck and to ask who built it, saying they'd like something similar. I've had the great pleasure of telling them to use any fencing company other than this one. The sad thing is that just a little customer service would have avoided the hard feelings I have towards this company. All they really needed to do was to call me and explain to me why they could not build my deck in a timely manner. Instead, they would call once or twice a week and lie to me.
Drake Anderson: once the contract is signed and the check clears, you'll never hear from him again unless you contact him. He did not follow up on a single thing he said he would do, and when he did answer my texts or emails, he lied repeatedly. Oh, but he "apologizes for the inconvenience."
Office manager Shea: I don't know what else she does, but I think her primary job is to call the customer twice a week for no purpose other than to lie to them. "They'll be there Monday." "They'll be there Thursday." "They'll be there Friday, will work on Saturday and will come back on Monday to finish the job." Every single time she opened her mouth to me, it was a lie.
Travis, the owner: How much does a job have to cost in order for a customer to deserve a return phone call? My $14,000 job apparently wasn't enough. Despite multiple requests, I could never even get him to return my calls. But judging by the people he allows to represent him, I already knew his level of integrity. Most organizations reflect the values of their leaders. Apparently the owner of this company needs a reminder of what his values are supposed to be:
WHAT ARE THE MARINE CORPS VALUES?
Honor This is the bedrock of our character. It is the quality that empowers Marines to exemplify the ultimate in ethical and moral behavior: to never lie, cheat, or steal; to abide by an uncompromising code of integrity; to respect human dignity; and to have respect and concern for each other. It represents the maturity, dedication, trust, and dependability that commit Marines to act responsibly, be accountable for their actions, fulfill their obligations, and hold others accountable for their actions. Here is my warning: pay their mandatory 3% fee and use your credit card. Do not give them cash! Once they have your money you are at their mercy. If you pay with a credit card you will at least have the ability to contest the charges. When you do that you have the credit card company backing you up.
In order to get this company to actually come do the work I had paid them to do, I had to engage an attorney to sue them for breach of contract. I also filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Only after I had engaged the attorney did they finally send a team to do the work. So as I said in the beginning of this review, the deck looks awesome but the company completely lacks integrity.
