This is quite a discreet sort of fountain, as fountains go. It's not exactly in the centre of Chamberlain Square, and the actual water feature itself is quite compact. It's a bit more domestic hot tub than Fontaine de la Concorde.
That said, the accompanying ornamental tower ... thing... is rather splendid: an elaborate, Victorian ornamental stone thing. I suppose that it's fitting that one of Birmingham's most famous historical figures in Joseph Chamberlain ought to have something a bit more exciting than a simple pool with a modest spout of water.
Either way, it's good to have a water feature here, amongst the concrete and the statues, even if it's not a particularly dramatic one. read more
