More cheese Grommit and plenty of it. The Cheese Board is pretty much a celestial invention then. It stocks 200 types of speciality cheese, hampers and cheese wedding cakes; local, British and Continental cheese. I mean how good is that. Cheese tastic goodness and so much of it. You best get Daisy eating more cud, we're going to need the milk. Now I pride myself on knowing my fromage from the babybels but if you don't fear not. The people who work there all know their stuff and are really approachable. I wonder if there is such a position as a cheese guru and if so how can I apply. I left armed with the smelliest stilton ever. The more mould the better but only on my cheese not in general everyday life. It would also be rude not to try a nice slab of Wensleydale too. But this is quickly demolished by the fact that the shop is very cramped to the point where i nearly fell over a basket. The staff ask you what you want straight away too, which i don't like, as i like to take my time and have a good look through everything and not feel harrassed. I love cheese, but i find it rather expensive to be honest for what you get as well - i got some sheeps milk wenslydale and it came to about £7 for my average sized hunk. It was nice, but for £7 i expect it to blow my socks off which it didn't. I've paid less for other, rarer cheeses at newer deli's in Harrogate - where i've been allowed to taste them first before buying as well - and been blown away by what i got. Its an ok shop, but i'm afraid that there are better contenders out there now to be honest.

I went with the full Cheese Experience (3 courses) while my husband had two. We went with two different cheesy starters, both delectable. I had the chicken with smoked cheese. The breast was perfectly cooked in a lake of cheese sauce, with the rosti beneath it (like a thin hashbrown) added a nice crunch. For my dessert course, we shared the ginger cheesecake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Neither of us are cheesecake people but we declared this the best we have ever had. It wasn't as sweet as American cheesecakes, and had a pleasant cragginess with ginger warmth as a complement. The ice cream was also better than what you find most anywhere in America--fresh and creamy. What a glorious meal!

My favorite has always been the Garstang Blue its very mild in tasting not like most Stilton type cheeses. They also make some delicious cheese and onion pies on site and their blue cheese sausages just cant be resisted. I have given a 5 star review as in my opinion Dewlay tick all the right boxes. The barn-like-store consists of a butcher shop, cheese shop, and bakery on the first floor with tables on the open second floor for dinning. Never buy spices, Indian herbs or any Indian cooking ingredients from a supermarket as you pay way over the odds and for such small quantities. Practically all of the customers who shop at East West are Bangladeshi or Indian and they also supply a number of restaurants and takeaways. They get a delivery of fresh Asian vegetables every week (normally on Monday) and their in-shop butcher looks after the Halal meat side of things. It's great to try all of these Asian vegetables as they are cheap and if you don't know what to do with them the shop owner are happy to help or just have a look on the net. They have about 10 large chest freezers what are full of Asian fish and other special foods. I buy my mutton from here as these Asian supermarkets are practically the only places that sell mutton. Mutton is great for curry or any slow cooked meal and it is cheaper than lamb. If you have not shopped in one of these places before then it may be a new experience at first as sometimes when I shop here I have to step over the odd guy who has just unrolled his mat out for one of their many prays they do each day. Also don't be put of by the untidiness as this is how they all are, In general, shop here for all of your ingredients, don't be afraid to ask if you are unsure and give the supermarkets a miss.
