They have ideas to help bring home the bacon although not very healthy, what they specialise in a 30cm in diameter burger containing a staggering 40 slices of cheese, it poses a gut-busting challenge for even the hungriest of customers. Equivalent to more than 26 quarter-pounders, the burger comes in at an estimated 13,464 calories - nearly a week's recommended intake for the average man. (I took this info from their advertising). The meat feast contains three kilos of beef, dwarfing its competitors in the race to be named Britain's biggest - and most calorific - burger. This meal costs £30 but is free to anyone who manages to finish the lot in a two-hour period. You then get £200 in cash if you successfully complete the challenge. This turned out to be an excellent alternative, especially the hot-smoked salmon Caesar salad for starter. I'd never had a salmon Caesar before but this made me want more. For mains, I opted for the sausages, which were really tasty as was the summer fruits pudding afterwards. For vegetarians, rather than having separate menu items, some of the existing dishes are also available in vegetarian format. Being a microbrewery, their own beers appealed to me rather than bigger commercial names and it was good to see that they made a range of beers which could be tried in tasting trays of 3 or 6. I had chosen 2 of them (Stout and Black Pig) before I went through the door but these were not available. Well over 30 different drafts and bottles on offer, all neatly organized and listed on the wall by price, style and alcohol-by-volume for easy ordering. I had also checked their website, so I knew that they also had a decent food menu, with a rather large and strange section focused on mussels. My friend and I arrived in the peak of the dinner hour. Most of the tables had reserved signs on them, but we were able to find one that was still open. Standard UK ordering system - pay and order at the bar, your food will be brought to your table. They have a two-for-ten deal with a six or so meals. My friend and I both went with the mussels and fries special. The mussels arrived in a large stock pot with about 20+ mussels in a heavenly cream and onion stock. Very delicious. The fries were a little soggy, but they were hot and good, served with a small pot of mayo. Other sauces were available, but instead I tossed them into the soup to soak up the stock, then fished them out with the mussel fork. :-) Hard to choose which ones, but we enjoyed three delicious Belgian beers. Starting with a weissbier, then a blond and for me, ending up with a pilsner. All were excellent selections, but the weiss was definitely my favorite.
