I'm a sucker for fried chicken. If it's fried chicken, consider me on board.
So one night, while going for some groceries, I run into an old friend, Aileen Cadenilla, who proceeds to tell me that she has a business going on in Banchetto, and that I should go check it out. Out of a sense of duty (she is someone I know from way back in kindergarten) I go.
Imagine my delight when I walk up to Aileen and in front of her were some of the most golden-fried, juicy looking quarter pieces of chicken. I quickly hop up to her, and with all panache I can muster, go "frieeeeend, may free taste?"
Turns out that her business is The Chicken Mogul, a fried chicken and fried pork specialty cuisine restaurant, with her chef/hubby the master of the kitchen. After a quick taste, I am sold. The chicken and the pork will stand by themselves, no doubt about that. But the sauce options lend a unique difference, turning what is essentially a specially-fried meat into tangy, sweetish or piquant barbecue.
Think of it as a deep-fried pit barbecue.
They're no longer in Banchetto, if you're asking; this food was never meant to be a stall offering. But if ever you find yourself in Fairview, along Commonwealth, QC, look for a store with cute, funky black and white graphics as a décor, and a staff that is best described as family. Go in, sit down, and order. And you'll walk out later, having just eaten the best fried chicken in Manila. read more
