A really nice small bar with indoor and outdoor seating. The service was excellent, the bartender, Tony, was very attentive. I've been here many times before, for beer or music or just hang out and I've had some of their food that has been good. While the beer selection is not the best the Shrimp pad Thai I had tonight was very tasty. Just the right amount of heat. I may have to try their Tuesday night Supper specials more often. read more

Visited here for a late lunch on a Wednesday afternoon. There were folks at the bar and folks sitting outside enjoying the covered patio area. With one person behind the bar preparing drinks, food, and taking care of folks, it took a minute to put my order in. The hot dog was recommended to me and I was tempted by the three bean salad. I added sauerkraut and brown mustard to the dog. It's a really good-sized frank and most folks will probably be fine with one. It has a pillowy brioche bun that held on the toppings together really well. It was soft and had a good chew to it. They use Boars Head hot dog and I really do love the snap that comes with those dogs. That three bean salad was delicious! Sweet and tangy. Yum! I could have had a second serving. The vibe inside the place is very chill. It was a work day so I wasn't able to grab a beer but this place is a comfortable place to do just that. Give The City Tap a try! read more

We sat outside because we took our dog. You go inside to the side of the bar, order your food and it gets brought out to you. They had live music that day. Which is always a treat. It was okay bar food and we ended up spilling most of my cider because of an uneven table. New to the area. Was just passing through downtown area around lunch and was starving. Stopped at a red light and saw The City Tap symbol on what looked like an old historical downtown building. Decided to wing it in there for a bite. Great downtown pub. The vibe in there is very cool. The deli sandwiches made with boar's head meats all sound great. Was in the mood for a Rueben. Was not disappointed. Staff was friendly and welcoming. If you're in the Pittsboro area you need to check it out. Went to Pittsboro to meet a friend, thought my husband and I could go out for a nice Sunday afternoon meal. Unfortunately, that did not happen. My husband has mobility issues and there is no handicapped access to the dining area. There is a covered patio that is accessible, but they do not offer table service in that area. No one was there to greet us, and another customer had to explain that you have to order inside, up a flight of stairs and they would deliver to your table. Very disappointed. We left. Going up and down all those stairs is not an option for us, and I really wanted to be able to enjoy a meal without having to work for it. How have the owners never heard of the ADA (Americans with Disability Act) and how did they ever get a permit without handicapped access? read more

We had lunch here because they have the nicest patio of anywhere in our area. They have improved since our last visit. Everything looks the same, but it feels different. They seem more attentive and customer focused than before. They also have a better beer selection with a details about each one. The menu is the same but the food was better. Such a cool experience. We had never been to Pittsboro before and we were in the area. My fiancé wanted to grab a drink and I was getting hungry. Very neat and different wall décor. I agree with what Nicole M. said about the beer selection and the bar food. I liked this place enough to give it three stars! (Perhaps I should award it a bonus star for no TV?) The City Tap is an intimate venue for live music. We went to see Danny Gotham there on Friday night. The acoustics were alright, although the ambient noise was a bit distracting - even though we were sitting just a table away from the 'stage.' The man working behind the bar was going full tilt, as was the one coming around to wait tables... but the layout of the joint (think "shotgun" house) made passage slow and... well, intimate. They did a brisk business for Danny's performance. It was my first time at City Tap so I can't gauge the difference he made to their normal Friday night traffic, but they couldn't have done any better - there were just no other seats available. I wonder how that's going to play out in a week or two when he goes back there to play with a jazz combo? read more

I've tried this place twice and really like it. The first visit was several months back so details are fuzzy, but we enjoyed so went again recently. My boyfriend and I sat at the bar - he had a beer and I had a margarita since they were on special ($6 so no idea how much they usually are). Margarita was tasty, and I often dislike margaritas if I can taste too much tequila. Boyfriend had the turkey sandwich and I had the Italian - we both enjoyed. I only ate half but heated my other half up at home later and it was way better heated. I had chips and he had some kind of apple slaw that he loved. It's a cute place and I like the service. We had the same bartender both times, and she's not overly friendly and chatty (which I appreciate), but she is pleasant and fast which is what I hope for at restaurants. I realized while sitting at the bar at The City Tap that they have no kitchen in back. What you see is what you get and they make all of their sandwiches in front of you and that is why the menu leans towards sandwiches and easy-prep items. The beers on tap were from all over the county and parts of the State. There is a nice outdoor patio as well. We sat inside because it was so humid. The staff was really friendly and got us our drinks and lunch orders. I had the sandwich of the day with melted cheese and apples and delicious sauce. The side options are chips or bean salad. If you are a hot dog fan, get their hot dogs. They were delicious and come with the perfect toppings. A great local pub tucked around the corner of downtown Pittsboro. The City Tap has a solid draught list of local brews, daily sandwich specials (an outstanding Ruben, anyone?), and great bar food like a cheesy pretzel roll with spicy mustard. Sit outside under the creative Edison bulbs and listen to a local band jam out, or maybe just to the excellent playlist of 90s rock standards from inside. I was told about City Tap, so I stopped in to check it out. It definitely has a quaint, local vibe to it, but the 2 guys behind the bar made me feel right at home. Because it was late, a couple of the menu items were not available, but the food prep guy said he would make me anything I wanted with what he had available. He made some suggestions and we ended up building a sandwich that I thought was just short of amazing. Their beer selection is pretty decent too, and the guy tending the bar made sure I got what I wanted. Bottom line is if I find myself hungry in Pittsboro again I'm sure I will head over to this place for a quick bite, a good beer, and conversation with friendly folks. read more

Came here for dinner after an evening at Fair Game Bev. This was the recommended spot so we figured we would give this a try. The service was lackluster at best. I think my dining partner was more offended by it than me but I still didn't feel like we were treated very well. Maybe only good service for regulars? Specifically, our server was unenthusiastic and inattentive. We went long periods of time with empty waters. The most offensive thing though was when I was asking some polite conversational questions about the area and she interrupted me with "are ya gonna order something to drink, or not?" Unacceptable. As far as the food, it is ok, which is why this place gets 2 stars instead of 1. If the service was stellar, I may be inclined to go back if I was already in Pittsboro. The guac tasted like the premade dip stuff you get at Trader Joes. The tofu Bahn Mi was an interesting veggie option for this kind of place, but you know, meh. These things? Forgivable. For downtown P-boro you can't get any better than this. It's a small spot yes, I'll give you that. The food is prepped and cooked in an even smaller "kitchen". The sandwiches are all quite good. I've tried half a dozen of their sandwiches and not been disappointed. The portions are hearty and the service has always been amicable and attentive. Some of the notable apps are the Guglhupf cheese/ham and cheese bretzels, nachos and their hummus platter. The times we've been there we've brought our newborn - yes we're that couple, but the staff has been accommodating and gone out of their way to be helpful. Good seating indoor and out, easy parking. The place is quaint with a cool vibe. The beer selection on draft is all local - NC beer. We're planning on heading out there at least twice a month to enjoy the daily specials and the local NC beer selections. read more

City Tap is a fun, laid back spot for music, great local beers and an all-around good vibe. The food selection is small and may be a bit of a wait on busy nights but every sandwich I've tried is awesome. The inside is cozy, somewhat narrow & doesn't leave much walkway but in good weather, the outdoor area is always an excellent option. This place was great! I didn't have high expectations due to the other reviewers comments about out of town folks not being welcomed. I found that completely untrue. The bartender was helpful and personable. Even when the joint filled up and there were groups of people waiting (she was the only service staff, other than the cook) she remained patient and attentive to us. The location was really cute. They had a nice outdoor patio which doesn't receive service FYI so if you sit out there don't expect help. The beer was great. I think there was 8 on tap. All of it local from North Carolina and all but two were from different breweries. Food was awesome. I had the tofu bahn mi with the dressing and it was a seriously delicious vegan sandwich. For a divey type location in a small town to have a vegan option is absolutely unheard of. The ingredients were local as well. All of the veggies were fresh and crisp. All in all a perfect lunch after a day of exploring around Pittsboro. If we are ever back in the area I'm headed back to City Tap. read more

When your in Pittsboro and your want to have a drink ya gotta stop by here! Actually it maybe the only place to go!! I luckily found this place while I was looking for a bar on yelp. It was only a block away....actually almost everything is a block away in this city! The place was pretty busy, a singer with some kind of stringed instrument was playing. There were a few ladies dancing, well "bouncing off" other patrons like bowling balls in the little walkway between the bar and a few tables. I was able to sneak in a crevice in the bar for safety and ordered a local brew....Fullsteam. It was pretty good and made from potatoes?? really? I wish I could have tried a few more. The food, beer and music are great with awesome outdoor seating. The only negative for me is when I go there by myself the male bartenders are as unfriendly as they get unless you are customer that frequents the place all the time, the female bartenders are much better still lack a true friendly engagement with the customer. service is good if you sit at the bar but not so great if your outside or at a table. As a former Restaurant owner and bartender I feel a little engagement goes a long way especially when your not busy, even if you don't care what people have to say fake it. Sorry but as a local for the past 2 years of Pittsboro I get the same treatment every time and I am a totally friendly person who tries to engage with both customers and staff. I still go there occasionally because of the food and beer hoping to get a better experience.
