Cool little place. Came here for cinco de mayo with my wife and friends. It was busy, but theatmosphere is lively, with colorful decorations and good music. We started with $5 guacamole and chips. For drinks, we tried their margaritas, and they did not disappoint. We ordered the lobster tacos and chicken enchiladas to share. Everything tasted good but was a little pricey for the portion size. Our server, Meghan was very attentive and made sure our drinks were always topped off and even offered us some great recommendations for our next visit. Came for happy hour after a busy day and felt transported to a tropical beach. Ambiance and decor is well done. They use to be in Malibu and now located in TO. Parking in back. Great happy hour menu. We settled on the taquitos and carne asada fries (substituted grilled steak). Great service and good dranks also helped. While food was super tasty, I loved their chips and salsa. I enjoy a roasted salsa and Cliffdiver's so good. Service was excellent! I enjoyed a fresh happy hour marg, which was mixed well. The taquitos were different than any I have had. They were flavorful and filled with potato, veggie and chicken. Husband enjoyed every bite of his carne asada fries and thinks these might be his favorite. When I go out to eat, I don't want the food to taste like something I could easily make at home. In the case of the guac, esquites, beans, and rice - it bummed me out to taste these dishes, knowing with certainty that I have made better versions at home. None of it was bad, but it all lacked flavor and/or seasoning. The lobster tacos were nothing to write home about. They were tiniest tacos I've ever seen - I legitimately have never seen a tortilla that small in my life. The gringo tacos and the salsa they came with were the highlight, and the only dish I would recommend. Was looking forward to the margarita flight, was told it would be 10-15 minutes because they were out of the glasses. I was fine with that as I figured the food would take at least 10 minutes (pretty typical for most restaurants) - the food was out in less than 5 minutes and, by the time 15 minutes had hit and the glasses still hadn't appeared, I asked the bartender to cancel the flight. Great that the food was so quick, however would've appreciated if the bartender would've mentioned this likelihood to me when she provided the 10-15 minutes ETA for the flight, as I would've gotten something else. Not sure why she didn't offer to just pour the correct volume of drink for the flight-sized sampling into regular-sized glasses if I was okay with the lack of aesthetic. I've never had a restaurant tell me they can't serve my food or drink because they ran out of the proper glass or dish. Walked out wishing I would've just stayed home to make my own food and drinks. Overall, wouldn't come back based on my experience and 3/4 dishes being mediocre. 3 stars based on the server being friendly, the single dish I enjoyed, the ambiance, and the assumption that the drinks are good. If you're looking for a cute backdrop with pretty drinks, this could be a good place for you. read more

Today was our first experience at The Cliffdiver and we're so happy that it exists! First things first... the ambiance is spectacular. It's uniqueness feels like some hip spot in Portland or in LA - but it's here in Thousand Oaks! We went with our family and loved its relaxed feel. It wasn't overcrowded at all which was lovely. The service was very good, and the food was exquisite. My family LOVED the esquites and my son's California Burrito looked out-of-this world! I forget what my wife got, but it also looked KILLER! I'm Keto, so I had the smash burger as a lettuce wrap which is kind of In-N-Out esque in a good way, and also got an order of the mussels which were excellent. They're in a cream sauce with bacon and cilantro. If I could give make one improvement to the menu, I would make some Keto options where you get the burritos or tacos that are on the menu, but make them into bowls with the rice and beans removed - so it'd be like lettuce, meats, cheese, guacamole and sour cream. Mind you... I bet they'd absolutely do this... but I often feel awkward asking, and you're not sure how much its going to end up being with all the adjustments and added meats... so it would be awesome for that to be on there. I was just happy they had delicous things I could eat though. We will absolutely be back here. It's literally the perfect place to take the family or friends who visit from out of town because it's not just your run-of-the-mill place... it's really fun and memorable. The music selection was pretty fire as well. Yeah, I said it... There is a connecting bar as well that is open a bit later than the kitchen I believe. Located in a relatively slow part of TO Blvd, the Cliffdiver is a much needed diamond in the rough on this side of Thousand Oaks. Interesting layout between the bar and the dining area as they are truly segmented from each other. We decided to enjoy the unique seating options in the dining area. Definitely a cool and relaxing vibe which helped take me out of the mindset that I was on TO blvd. the service was very polite and helpful as well. Food: a good mix of fresh mex and some traditional items. Nothing left me feeling too heavy so there plenty of room for drinks throughout the meal. I came for happy hour with friends on a Friday. I had driven by the restaurant several times and was excited to finally give it a try. Service was almost nonexistent and the little service we did get was unfriendly. We decided to order off the regular menu since we were hungry. No one checked on us after the food came. Meat quality in the Smash burger was disgusting and irresponsible. I never spit out so much cartilage and bone out of a burger. I was spitting them out the entire time and finally gave up and threw away the burger. How has no one checked the quality of the food? I had a reservation made, showed up and was after a few minutes acknowledged by two women working at the bar. They didn't seem happy to see me.I picked a table and came back to a couple that had taken my spot... I brought it up to the woman at the bar and they just said "go to another table!"... really? The two woman at the bar didn't even apologize or anything (stuck up, rude energy, could be because I was colored and those that took the table were white I'm not too sure). We decided to try based on decent reviews. Ordered two tacos, an asada and a mahi mahi. Asked the server how the tacos were, big, normal and she responded normal good tacos. Step in - the bar side has an intimate feel with a 'come inside and eventually everyone will be talking with one another' feel. The other side is for seating with two cute sitting areas, tables or sit out on the patio. It was a nice albeit balmy evening we opted for the patio and watched the cars roll by on the boulevard. The menu is mostly Mexican fare with a few American style hold outs like the spicy chicken sammy and the burger. I opted for the gringo tacos cause I like crispy shell and I was feeling nostalgic. The MBWITW ordered the Ahi tostadas and the kids order 1 & 2 sandwiches mentioned above. The first thing I noticed about the food in general is homemade. My Gringo tacos were a good amount of food and the shells were delicious. It reminded me of a better version of a Taco Bell taco and we educated the kids on how Taco Bell used to be such a treat as kids. The ahi tostada was sans the sauce cause the MWITW has to have dairy free this and gluten free that as well as no spicy please. So without the toppings they were plain but adequate. The real stars were the burger and chicken Sammy. Both were ample size and well executed. The burger was thick with fresh ingredients. The texture-juiciness-flavor were spot on. One of the top burgers in TO. Only suggestion would be to make the patty a little larger or thinner to that it spans the entire bun. More please! The chicken sandwich was boneless chicken thigh with a ultra crispy coating. It says - We're going for flavor and flavor it delivers - possibly the best chicken sandwich in TO. Cookie girl ordered it plain but if this is any indication, the spicy version has got to be insane. It is evident that the menu is thoughtfully planned out - the coating on the chicken and the choice of bun - soft yet durable brioche shows the artist touches. All in all it CD was a great experience. The prices are reasonable - They have a nice drink menu and I felt like I was on a vacation being here. I am going back to try the lobster tacos and other items in the menu because it is always nice to see the chef's interpretation of their select items. So go to Cliff Diver spend some time in their cute dining room seating area the cozy bar or the boulevard adjacent patio - relax and pretend like we did that your on the coast of Mazatlan or Baja. read more
