This is one of those little open-all-hours shops (I think it's 7am - 11pm). And that's just about the only good thing I can think of to say about this shop!
They stock the essentials like bread and milk, and also a few extras like wine, tinned foods, fruit and veg., a small range of frozen food, and a few magazines. It's handy if you live locally and have run out of something - but it certainly wouldn't be my first choice (nor my second!).
More often than not when I've called in for something I've run out of, like bread, they don't have what I want. They carry a really limited stock range and often run out of things.
The staff are variable. One or two of them are really friendly, but others are quite surly and unhelpful.
They recently introduced a policy of not giving customers a plastic bag at all. So you go in for milk, bread, maybe a packet of biscuits, a tin of beans and some sweets and they let you struggle out the door trying to carry the lot in your hands. No wonder the bread ends up all squashed! Last time I (very reluctantly) called in they did give me a carrier bag, so maybe they've changed the policy now. I don't know - but either way I am so unimpressed with this shop that I only go there if I am really, really desperate. On the whole, it's much easier to go a little further to either Sainsbury's in Yarm or Tesco up by the school.
They are extremely reluctant to give cash back if you pay by debit card, and instead try to send you to the cash machine outside. Personally I don't like using external cash machines because of the people loitering right outside, and also I don't want to get caught by one of those fake ATM fronts, so I'd rather get cash back in a shop. read more
