Everyone I know at Macquarie University has a love-hate relationship with The Co-Op Book Shop. We love it because it gives us what we need - books from which we can study, learn and ultimately become great in our chosen fields. Course notes so specific that they aren't published by anyone else, and are needed by our particular subject or faculty. However, we also hate it. We hate it because we hate spending our hard-earned Centrelink payments on stupid textbooks. We hate it because it is so damn expensive - over $600 this semester for these books, are you even serious? We hate it because the line is so damn long at the start of semester, when you and everyone else at this tertiary institution is in line for books for Accounting 101 and Law 586. The Coop Bookshop sells textbooks for all the subjects at Macquarie, which are neatly organised according to faculty and year level - nice! It gives you the tools you need to learn Advanced Torts, Intermediate French or Business Administration. It's a funny business; at the start of semester, the shop is so busy that you must stand in line for hours to purchase, and they occasionally sell out of that book you really really need! But for the rest of the academic year it's as quiet as a grave, only rarely stirring for the stoner kid who realised in week 5 that he needed textbooks, or the odd person interested in reading a book for pleasure (emphasis on the odd). read more

Horrible service. Not helpful. Didn't receive what I ordered and now they won't respond to my emails.

Having now read all the other complaints about this organisation I wish I never trusted my order to them. I'm still waiting for an item that list as limited stock - will be delivered in 24 hours. That was 11 business days ago. I now just want the item so I never have to deal with them ever again. I too had my first order sent to a store that did not have the uni text books, so they just sat on the order. After contact the customer support team, they stated they could see what was wrong and would fix it immediately but splitting the order and sending it to stores with the stock to send out (2 different ones). Meanwhile friends who orders the text books 5 days after me were already receiving their books. So I contact them again, 'Sure we can see the problem and will sent it out immediately'. In the meantime book I ordered 6 days later arrives before either of the 2 text books. Eventually after 3 more complaints and unsuccessfully waiting on the phone for 1/2 hour and never progressing past 6th in line, my text books arrived a full 10 days after ordering (in stock items - quoted as to be shipped within 24 hours). So I still have no idea when my last item is coming to me, it's 12 days now??? NEVER NEVER AGAIN. Terrible customer service, terrible online service, just Terrible. NOT WORTH the slightly lower prices if you never it get it (or get it 2 weeks after you need it - makes it pretty worthless). Now waiting for the ACCC response to my complaint. read more
