Having stayed overnight at a different place for each of the previous 7 nights things were becoming a bit of a blur. I arrived at the Coach & Horses Guest House late in the day, rang the bell, and was greeted and shown to my room.
From the outside I wasn't expecting much and when I stepped inside it felt a bit like I'd entered someone's home, albeit one that had a very large dining area with multiple tables and chairs. But there were things present that gave the impression of a home.
Up on the top floor, facing away from the street, my room proved to be somewhat of an oasis and completely different than all of the impressions I'd accumulated. The room was very big, orderly, and immaculate. It felt like someone had thought of everything. There was space for 2 comfortable chairs in which to relax, a big fan to circulate the air, a safety step for entering the bathtub/shower area, and more. This room - it's spaciousness and aesthetic - made me regret that I was staying here only one night.
A lovely, made to order breakfast was included in my stay and served by the warm, kind owner, Sylvia, and her niece. Sylvia's hospitality was really the icing on the cake for this visit. (How warm and kind, you wonder? Sylvia personally drove me and my luggage to my next place of lodging, took a little scenic detour en route, and suggested I call her if I needed a ride to the train station in a few days. Talk about going above and beyond)!
Coach & Horses is a wee bit outside the hubbub of central Oxford but still very near to everything you'll want to see It's a nice, flat walk to everywhere and I discovered a great restaurant in the very next block.
Don't be deterred by its slightly off-the-beaten path location. If you're anything like me, you'll be very happy you chose to stay at Sylvia's Coach & Horses Guesthouse. read more
