Anyway, the guys who work there are really friendly and have obviously been doing this most, if not all of their lives. Although, do keep in mind that Saturdays are their busiest days and hence, some services can take longer depending on local demand. The staff are very friendly, helpful and honest about how well the repair can be expected to be. For instance, there are no false promises if you have left something for too long to repair. They also stock a wide range of shoe and key paraphernalia as well as zippo lighters and the like.

What a gem. I am SO happy we have this shop on Byres Road. Jim, the owner, is a bit of a legend…read more He is an artist and a real craftsman. I wandered in in looking to get my beloved shoes re-heeled. He said it would take about 20 minutes and would cost £9. I suppose that is relatively steep for some people, but considering that I love these shoes and I can finally wear them again AND the real TLC he gives the shoes - polish, shine the whole shebang, I was more than happy to pay! He did a stellar job, is incredibly friendly and chatty and has a good sense of humour. He showed me pictures of some of the repairs he's done, and I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the state of the shoes that some people bring in. Anything from Doc Martins to Jimmy Choo's (they were ghastly, I was shocked!), he managed to make everything look brand new, no matter how little leather was left. This would probably also be the place to come to get keys cut, glass engravings, belt notch making. I have yet to require any of these services, however, I know where I'll be going when the time comes. I am super happy with the service in this place, and can only recommend Jim and craftsmanship! The one thing you should know is that it is cash only.

If a shoe is worth repairing he'll tell you but if it isn't he'll be equally frank. I did some research on the internet and came across Tip Top Shoe repairs in Mount Florida. Headed over yesterday, explained my problem and Jim suggested a rubber sole and heel to be put onto both boots. I left them with him, walked out in my socks (nice sunny day and getting odd looks from folks) to a cafe round the corner for breakfast. Had just finished my breakfast and Jim called to say they were ready. To be frank, i did not know what to expect and i was pleasantly surprised to see the heavily worn down sole replaced with a rubber half sole and new rubber heels. and the price was...... £20 for the pair! Jim's skills saved me a packet, my feet are dry and if the glue holds up i'm expecting to get another couple of years riding out of them. The other option i was exploring was buying some shoe goo on amazon and doing a DIY patch job.... the cost of the shoe goo was 14 delivered and i would have made mince meat of trying to creating a smooth finish, with the expectation of replacing the boots soon after. Jim is a very easy guy to talk to, he explores all the options with you and despite the fact that he was busy with other orders he understood my predicament of not having spare shoes to walk about in and prioritised my boots. I can't thank him enough and my advice to bikers in Glasgow is..... check your boots and if the soles are worn down then go see Jim and get new soles BEFORE you get holes in them. You will be keeping a traditional local business alive and your wallet will thank you. My previous disappointing experience with Timpson's a few years ago and their prices of £59 for resoles saved me a potential headache. I am certain you will not find better service, quality of work and rates anywhere else this side of Glasgow. one well chuffed, dry footed biker
Very small shop, does all repairs on the shoes…read more The staff are great there, as they would give you an advice, to see if it is worth repairing the shoe, or not. Came here recently to enquire about getting some boots resoled and some regular shoe soles changed…read moreto an anti-slip sole. I was told my boots couldn't be resoled as they were a certain type of sole that 'wouldn't take a sole'?!...okay. Was a bit miffed about that (especially as I managed to get them resoled in another cobblers!) and was then told to get the soles on my shoes changed to anti-slip (there was nothing wrong with the original soles; just they weren't very grippy) would cost me just shy of £20! Ouch. Because these were some favourite shoes of mine & made of leather I figured what the hey...I'd rather pay that than not really be able to wear them come the icy/snowy weather. Still, I did think nearly £20 was a bit steep... They're only open until 5pm Mon-Sat so I had to wait until the next Saturday to collect them. Upon collecting them I thought they looked okay but on closer inspection the heels have got big staples visible in them and I thought this was strange as in the past I have never been able to see anything other than the heel itself. Also the sole they used was grooved and not smooth/flat as before but upon walking on them they still do not feel particularly non-slip. Hmph. Bit annoyed. Also they only take cash only and on that particular day I didn't have enough cash on me so had to go away & take out some. The lady serving was very pleasant but I don't think I will be back as I know of better/cheaper cobblers in the area.

They also do watch batteries, watch strap replacements, door name plates, and passport photos - no smiling now. They sell all manner of shoe items - polish, laces, scuff repair etc. I really don't know why I bother going to shoe shops to get those sort of things when Timpson's are likely to have the same thing much cheaper. I like the guys in this shop. There's 2 in particular who have worked here for donkey's, and you get a wee bit of friendly banter from them. Not as much as from the guy in the Byres Rd branch - he's amazing with the funny chat, but still friendly and pleasant. One of them even fixed a boot for me for free once - it was just a wee bit of glue, but I really appreciated it. I love that for a tiny wee shop you can fit a surprising number of people in it, and it's always busy. It just always reminds me of those old comedy sketches where you'd see how many folk could cram into a mini or a telephone box, and I have a wee laugh to myself while I'm waiting for my keys or shoes.

"Cobbler" has to be among the greatest words in the English language. It rolls of the tongue…read moreeffortlessly, sounds vaguely comical, and is the title of a valuable profession which is sadly under-represented in the modern day. Whilst I only have experience of Holmlea Road Shoe Repairs from a visit with E-Bot to repair what is referred to as her "fancy shoes", it was enough to confirm to me that this kind of business was what made Britain great all those years ago. Organised chaos, and a wonderfully eccentric old cobbler who gave E a stern lecture for not looking after her footwear properly. This guy knows his stuff, and is both quick and a fair bit cheaper than Timpson's.

Unfamiliar with any cobblers or bag repairers in the city, the other half brought my bag to the lovely eccentric gentleman to be mended. It's a solid 3-stars because the stitching was a bit wonky (uneven - it's a reversible tote, and now it can't be used on the other side because the stitching is off the original line) and it's not an exact colour match, but it was only £7.50 to repair - so I can't really complain. The repair itself is fairly solid. The service was quick, and he was lovely. Future visits and other repairs (boots??) may dictate whether this 3-star review could become 4-stars.
