Seriously, the customer service is horrible...as soon as I entered the establishment the first two people behind the counter did not say a word to me, they acted like they did not see me although they both looked at me and turned away. Finally the third one comes from the back room and I ask if they have a bathroom as my pregnant wife needs to use it as I place our order...and she's staring at me and looking back at the register and is like well we do have one but but but...but you have to order something. Yes that's fine, I plan on it, I just need to know if there's a bathroom before I have her get out the car to walk in here. Fine, let's love one shall we. Ordering...I ask, so what are you known for here, she responds with, "coffee!" WOW!!! I went on my birthday , it's a franchise so they don't honor the birthday gift which is fine, but they took forever to make my drink, then made it wrong, rolled their eyes when I said I asked for white chocolate not mocha. Then proceeded to remake my drink but slowwwwwwly after I'd already been waiting forever. Didn't offer to make anything else or could've made it larger or even just been apologetic I would've appreciated. The temperature which they serve their chai is a law suit waiting to happen. Wait about 2 hours before attempting to drink it or you will get serious 2nd degree burns. Most of the time the internet is not working. The bathroom is usually sealed off for employees only. The convenient outlets for plugging in a laptop to work has been crudely taped over and disengaged. It's almost like they're trying to go out of business but by some divine miracle are still open. They're more expensive than Starbucks too which is hard to do. You do get a free drink after visiting about 15 times though so they've at least got that going for them. read more

I appreciate the consistency here - definitely a go-to stop. We have our favorite drink and food item here that is always the same. They have a rewards/stamp card system they always honor and it adds up rather quickly so we get a free drink or food now and then. (This is just from a one time visit.) This place could be such a great "living room" hub for the community, it just lacks a certain kind of warmth: walls are currently blank or generic posters. The other day I ordered a blended caramel frappe, what I got tasted like just Carmel and milk blended (wayyy too sweet and like there was no coffee or anything else added to it) Today I ordered an iced vanilla chai, due to my last experience, I asked for it to be half sweet (thinking of the vanilla not the actual chai powder). The drink I got tastes watered down and like nothing :/ The customer service was not bad, just the drinks I've ordered have all been poorly made. My suggestions; reinvent the proportions, have a distinctive list of how many pumps or scoops of flavor go into what sizes and for different types of drinks. I've worked in coffee for many years and every place I worked had their own list of these things that were pretty spot on. And make sure your baristas know these proportions! As one of the only coffee shops around and on an island in which coffee is so popular it should be better quality. read more

We come here often dispite the lack of customer service and constant issues with our order. Because when they get it right, it's good. My boyfriend went through the drive through this morning, ordered two large blended caramels, one of two with an add shot. He gets to the window, pays for two drinks but only receives one. When he asks about the second drink hes met with attitude, he says he paid for two but the worker stares there's only one drink on the order. She even issued him a refund for the second drink rather than offering to quickly make the second drink. I'm surprised this location hasn't been shut down yet for their lack of professionalism in any aspect of the business. There isn't much for choices in coffee shops in the Keeau area. I think this place is busy and still in business by default, I guess it's good for them? Friendly service is basically none existent, minus a few of the newer employees who actually smile and interact. Coffee prices are expensive, even for the area. I think I've had my order correct only a few times. The inside of the shop is in need of a deep cleaning, and even a dusting would be good. Location has tremendous potential to work remotely/drink coffee, but it's oddly lit and has uncomfortable seating. This CBTL is a hit or miss place...you never know what your drink is going to taste like until you try it, even though you have ordered it like a million time before. This is not Starbucks, the same drink that you have always order will never taste the same (unless is made by the same barista). That being said, I still go there every week to get the same drink I always get since it is on the way to my work place. I dont know why this place has such a bad rating! This Coffee Bean is so much better than Starbucks in general AND is better than Starbucks in Hilo. I have always been a big fan of CBTL. I only frequent Starbucks because it's everywhere and they have rewards. I wish CBTL has rewards as well! Anyway, to the point, I never experienced anything bad at this place. I always got my drink the way I wanted. I am a HUGE FAN of their Green Tea Ice Blended!!! It is so much better than Starbucks! I really like their Genmaicha as well. And I also hate it when the worker consults the manager about an additional charge & the manager can't do simple math or use a calculator to see I have been charged an additional charge for no reason. Then I have to wait in line for 10 minutes to get a refund after already trying to clarify this at the window & the manager said I got discounted not charged use your calculator on your phone if you have to...it's not rocket science. read more

I'm happy to have a Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf close by. However I found the atmosphere to be stark and uninviting. The barista told me no decaf tea, but as I was looking behind her I noticed a container that said decaf green tea which I pointed out and got. Then I asked for artificial sweetener and she said the didn't have any and asked if I wanted simple syrup. Good thing I'm not diabetic. They don't alert you when your beverage is ready. I went to look and my tea was out and low and behold there was a table with 4 brands of artificial sweeteners among the other condiments. The tea tasted fine and there was plenty of parking though. Worst customer experience I've had in a long time. I went through the drive thru at 745. No one is there to take my order, after a few attempts to try to get someone's attention, I decide to try inside. As I walk in, I notice the sign on door that says 8pm closing. At this time it is 752. A girl behind the counter shouts "we're closed". I say "but it's not passed 8 yet" Her "its 803 sorry" Me: "no it's actually 753" Her: "that's weird my screen says 803" Me: I show her my phone screen that says 753 Me: "Its 753 but It's okay, if you want to be closed early I understand" Her: ok sorry have a nice day, Me: I walk out...... I still have a hard time processing this...,being in customer service, I understand how it feels to have customers walk through the door when close to closing. Regardless, every customer no matter what time they walk through that door, deserves the same level of respect, time, attention and service as the rest. Just because you have 7 minutes left of work does not give you the right to be absolutely lazy and basically deny a customer. This company literally just paid their associate to shoo away a customer in need of their product. I gave her the option, and benefit of the doubt that maybe she was telling the truth and and she really did think it was past 8. Because of this, I gave her the opportunity to fix it ("if you want to be closed early I understand" ) I wanted to see what she would have done. She basically said yes I do want to be closed early, I don't want to serve you, I'm too lazy, I don't respect you enough or care about you enough as a customer to take 7 min out of the time that I am already being paid for and literally do the job I chose to get hired for and make a drink for you. Maybe my expectations of customer service is high, because I know damn well that I love to serve people and make sure my team knows how to serve people and put service before self. Serving people with Aloha and respect is more important than ourselves. My associates understand that they are the ambassadors of our brand, our company and our philosophy of serving guests the way we would want to be served. It is most unfortunate to have a worker who is this lazy, representing your awesome brand and presenting coffee bean in the way that she did because I really do love your product, so much that i could not leave puna to head back to Waikoloa without getting a drink from this place. I ended up throwing my cup out the window because well it was DISGUSTING.
