AVOID CBTL SHANGRI-LA IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE SWINDLED.
In general, I am a big fan of Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. As far as chain coffee goes, CBTL has the best drinks and some of the best food. But this particular branch (Shangri-La on the ground floor) has horrible management. I wasn't going to post this review, chalking up my experience to bad luck, but my sister and a friend told me it happened to them as well.
First off, management has sealed all of the outlets at this branch. I understand that they want to either cut down on power expenditure, but most CBTLs, even those much smaller than this branch, have at least one outlet. I used to like this branch because it had around 4. Now it has none. How are people supposed to work or study here now? Explanation? "Kasi yung iba po isang coffee lang binibili tapos ilang oras tumatambay." Seriously. Way to send away your target market of students and young professionals.
Second, and much, much, worse, apparently the baristas and management here engage in baiting and switching your orders. On my part, I ordered the Sardine and Garlic Linguine, my favorite. I ordered it by saying "Sardine pasta." I was served my drink and given a buzzer. When I came downstairs, I was surprised to see a plate of their bland and mushy ravioli. Chalking it up to an honest mistake, I asked to exchange it, only to find that my receipt said "ravioli." the barista claimed he misheard me, but that's impossible unless he was deaf. I said Sardine Pasta. In no universe could that be heard as ravioli.
Worse, when, in my frustration, I just decided to order another plate of Sardine pasta, it turns out it was out of stock, even at the time I originally ordered it. Instead of apologizing, the manager coldly gave me the customer service email.
I left in a huff thinking this was just bad service.
But a month later, my sister told me that she had experienced the same thing. She had ordered the Crunchy Chicken salad, then was given the Cold Pasta salad. Again, one of the most popular items on the menu was replaced by one of the worst items on the menu. Again, she was told that her order was misheard. Again, the crunchy chicken salad was actually out of stock. Again, the manager just gave her the email for her troubles.
A friend told me that happened to him as well.
I am inclined to believe that this is a scheme to cheat customers out of their money when what they ordered is out of stock. If it happens to you, be like my sister and demand that you get your money back. better yet, don't come to this branch a all. read more
