The food is always amazing, the cold noodle soup is second to none, we get that and couple it with Galbi and the shredded onion and you have a meal for the ages. The service is the best, they remember your name, and for us they even remember our order down to the specifics. The Korean bbq here is ok, the two sets for 2 with 3 meat choices are decent and the portions are generous enough to make even 3 ppl full. The service was a bit lacking where we often had to find or call out to them, only to be ignored a couple times. However, I will say they are usually quick to fulfill the requests of water and banchan when you eventually ask them. The beef tongue, house special, ribeye and chilmok special gui (boneless plate short rib) was the better meats. The Korean cold noodle was very good. A tad bit pricey imo. It felt a bit of a nickel and dime type place given they charge you for extra rice and even lettuce. Late night dinner on the weekend, Sat night. We arrived around 8:30ish. Place is almost empty. Not sure what happened with the glory. We seated and ordered the package B. By 8:45 they told us for last order. By 9pm they told to pay first cause they need to close the cashier. The sign shows open till 10pm. Food taste was great. On Saturday, September 20th, we had a family lunch at Gilmok, a very long history Korean BBQ restaurant in LA. My Mom's friends -- a couple who run an oriental medicine clinic -- recently moved from LA to Bakersfield but since they were coming back to LA that day and this place is their absolute favorite restaurant. They really wanted to meet us at Gilmok restaurant. So, we decided to meet there for lunch. Their top favorite here is the beef tongue (especially the cut from underneath the tongue), which they say is amazing. But I personally can't eat tongue, so I just had brisket and pork belly (my brothers had already ordered them). Since I had a super filling late breakfast that morning, I couldn't eat much at lunch. Gilmok has been famous for its dongchimi cold noodles for a long time, and they're still refreshingly delicious even now. cf) At Gilmok, they charge extra for things like ssamjang, rice, and lettuce. (My Mom also bought some very expensive wild ginseng from that couple that day, but since that's not part of this restaurant review, I'll leave it out -- though I'll still share the photo.) read more

My family has been eating here since the 1980s. We still consider it a treat to eat here. Quality and flavor have not changed as long as I can remember. The cold noodles are incomparable and so refreshing on a hot summer day. I have always enjoyed the kalbi and sides as well. Corner Place is very much an OG Korean BBQ place and not if you're not accustomed to just slap mouth hardcore traditional KBBQ. While it's good, it's a bit too OG for me. For example, I like my meats unseasoned, but if you order the tongue or intestines, they pre-salt it for you. I can definitely see the appeal and why it's good to those that like their meats seasoned, but my preference is of a purist when it comes to KBBQ. However, the cold noodle in soup dish (dongchimigooksoo) was amazing. On a warm summer LA day (which is every day), the dongchimigooksoo, as the Gen Zers would say now a days, "slaps!" Parking may be tricky. The restaurant itself is well lite but more attention could be directed to the cleanliness? It seems like it's a place that if you speak Korean, you'll be just fine. A K-Town staple. My grandparents and parents have been going to Gilmok for decades and I grew up eating here. I wish there was a place in NorCal/SF similar to Gilmok. There's truly no place like it. Their Dongchimi Guksu is to die for and A MUST ORDER dish. You're doing yourself a disservice by not ordering it. I have never had Dongchimi Guksu at any other restaurant besides Gilmok because I know that other places won't compare. We also order the "Combo B" which has tripe, honeycomb, and bulgogi. The service is prompt and quick. The same staff have been there for decades, which I find to be a great sign reflecting the business. The ambiance is bustling and always busy, I recommend joining the waitlist. Be prepared for the Pa muchim (scallion salad) to make your breath stankyyy, but it's so worth it. I prefer to focus on the cold noodles here as they're so good, but friends always seem to get distracted by the kbbq, which to be fair is pretty damned good, both the brisket and the beef tongue. The latter in particular is cut thicker than most kbbq places and retains the quality of the old days. Beef bulgogi isn't bad either but not a favorite of the group I as with. Service is old school and friendly enough, interior is a bit dated but that fits the vibe perfectly, especially when you consider just how many decades The Corner Place has been open in Koreatown. Parking is a small shared lot that gets both tight and full - if you get there early you can probably snag a spot if your car isn't too big, but if you get there later or you drive a larger car/SUV, expect to street park. read more

The #14 is a good set to get for two or three diners, which comes with three cuts of meat of your choice, from 1 - 7 or 9 - 13. The meal comes with typical Korean sides dishes, such as kimchi and pickles but this places is known for their pickled radish and pickled cabbage. Their signature is the cold noodle served in pickled radish. The wait staff do not cook the meat for you but they are attentive and refill/replenish sides upon request. The ambiance is pretty dull and boring, fluorescent light is bright. You are there to est food, period. I have been coming here for more than 20 years for KBBQ. Others have said it well: it's a fairly small place in a very cramped strip mall where parking spots are laughably narrow. It's been there since 1982, so they must be doing something right to compete amongst the bajillion KBBQ places in LA. But adjustment of expectations is important; this place isn't about flash. That said, while I may have some minor issues with the service or atmosphere, I have never had issues with the food. The consistency has remained, and I'm grateful for it. It's as tasty today as it was 20 years ago when I was introduced to this place by my good friend. Didn't realize that the cold noodles (dongchimi) were a must-try until recently. I can see how they are a highly refreshing summer dish, because it gets hot in this area in the summer time. We enjoyed bulgogi and BBQ chicken, along with a nice cross section of the complimentary banchan. It's a massive pile of meat, plenty for 2 people, with rice would easily feed 4. I love their banchan variety & flavors (bright, spicy, sweet, tangy, cooling), although I know they used to serve the black sweet soy beans sprinkled with sesame seeds, and they didn't have them anymore (please bring them back! ) The sweet-spicy carrot and spicy zucchini are wonderful, as well as the cool sweet-sour daikon. Also love that shaved green onion salad is an included banchan, not every place does this. So glad that this place remains virtually unchanged, can't wait to return again. read more

This place is a true LA institution--every Korean person in the city knows it. Mention the name, and the response is always the same: "dongchimi". It might look like a KBBQ joint, but it's really a dongchimi restaurant that happens to serve BBQ. The moment you sit down, the sides hit the table before you even order. The holy trinity is the dongchimi radish slices, radish strips, and cabbage. I only get two things here, so I cant comment on the rest of the menu. Unmarinated Ghilmok Roast Gui (#13 on the menu) - Skip the marinated cuts. The grills here aren't great for getting a proper sear without turning the surface into a burnt mess that needs constant changing. With the unmarinated cuts, you can use the same grill for the entire meal with no downtime--if you cook correctly. Also, always turn down the well-intentioned servers offer of putting meat on the grill for you. They'll throw everything on at once, which ruins any chance of a good sear. Grill four to five pieces at a time in the center for that perfect char. Cold Noodle in Soup - This is what makes this place legendary. It's basically dongchimi broth with noodles, and they'll split an order for two, so no need to over-order. The broth is tangy, sweet, savory, slightly garlicky, with an incredible lactic tang--the perfect contrast to the rich meat. Take a bite of meat(dipped in salted sesame oil), a bite dongchimi radish or kimchi, and noodles together and you'll understand why this place has been around forever. Then cleanse your pallet by drinking some of the broth. Honestly, the broth is so good, I don't even bother with the spoon--I just pick up the whole bowl and drink it like a barbarian. My only complaint are the grills. If they ever upgrade to something stronger but less messy, the meat would be worth the premium price. But even with that, this place is an essential Ktown spot. read more

The cold noodles aka dongchimi noodles are basically the only reason I would ever come here. The meat quality here is mediocre at best, but the problem is that the dongchimi noodles just go so well with Korean bbq. The ahjummas that work here also don't do a very good job grilling the meats and are more than happy to serve you an order of sass and attitude. The shitty service and terrible meat quality would usually warrant a 3 star rating, but the noodles actually are really good. I guess I understand the appeal of enjoying a delicious bowl dongchimi noodles with some Korean bbq in a comfortable run down little restaurant, but I don't think it's a place I would bring my non-Korean friends. read more

The broth is out of this world. No one can make it like Corner Place does. My usual order lately has been the premium galbi. The premium galbi is much more tender than the regular galbi and I think it's worth the minor upcharge. The quality of the premium galbi is excellent and the marinade is perfect - not too sweet or overpowering. Their green onion salad slightly marinated in sesame oil and pepper flakes go so well with their meat. Parking can be a bit tough during peak hours but they have a lot across the street for overflow parking. Oh and don't forget to ask for their mints at the end of the meal. read more

I really enjoyed this place! Unlike other K-BBQ places, this place feels very "homey" and has that "OG" feel to it. I feel like other places try to be too fancy, charge you extra for no reason, and gear towards younger audience whereas this place doesn't try to any of that. It's very simple, menu isn't overwhelming, and the price point is actually pretty fair. I ordered the premium galbi and it was enough to feed two adults + two kids. I like how they give you a lot of side dishes, let you cook the meat on your own, and eat at your own comfortable pace. Cold noodle was indeed very delicious. I mean I feel like it's mostly MSG but I mean to me as long as it tastes good, I really could care less haha.
