This charmingly classic Irish Pub/restaurant serves up great food, accompanied by fast; friendly and cheerful service. Truly a "find," when you're in Oban. They have an extensive beer/wine list; and the scotch's circle the bar overhead. My husband had two different Oban scotch; I stuck with a nice Cab. Their specials were sea bass and Langoustine cocktail, both of which our dining partners said were terrific. I had an appetizer portion of mussels, which were served with GF toast. The broth was creamy and garlicky, and lovely to sop up with the toast. My husband had the steak and ale pie, and was in heaven, I wish I had tried the mackerel pate! Our server, Arran, was delightfully warm; helpful; and sweet.... Absolutely darling. He let us know music was about to start just after we arrived - an older Scotsman playing familiar tunes on an accordion -- and that just made the whole experience better! We had the room all to ourselves which was kind of a double edged sword. We had the plenty of space but also didn't feel the full pub experience by being separated from the rest of the pub. Our server was very attentive and gave us good recommendations on food. We had one person in our party with dietary restrictions and he spoke with the chef and they were able to adjust a menu item to accommodate those needs. It was very much appreciated. Most unfortunately when it came time for dessert they were out of the sticky toffee pudding! We were so sad, but the server sent us for a walk down the road to another place for dessert. I enjoyed the steak pie along with a Guinness for dinner. It was very good and everyone else was pleased with their choices as well.
