This is just about the only pub in the whole of Arthur's Hill due to it mostly being built by Quakers (at least that is what I was told) and it used to be called The Spital and from what I remember it used to be pretty ropey with minimal choices of beers etc and 80's decor in peach and green. This was the first time I have visited since then, and what a massive improvement!!! Bright open windows, reclaimed furniture and interesting decor, a fire burning in the grate and a music night. There was a good selection of beers and ales including Theakstons IPA at 5%, some interesting spirits including the locally mage Poetic Licence, and a broad menu including a beetroot burger! The chunky fries were lovely and the sauces on the table included Jalapeno, and scotch bonnet!
Phew!
I love the fact that I can walk here with ease, and although a couple of the musicians were appalling (think Neil Young meets Doom) we had a very pleasant few hours!
Well worth a visit. It would be good for Students, locals out for Sunday lunch, even a date. read more
