As one would expect the decor of this pub is heavily influenced by the genteel game that is cricket, however it's really more of a rugby pub, being just down the road from Bedford Rugby Club. I've never actually been there on a match day, but I assume it's packed and very busy. The place has an old fashioned feel with it's wooden panneled walls, but it's real strength lies in the warm welcome, excellent and resonably priced bar food and guest ales. Various lagers and beers by the Adnams brewery are always on tap, however sometimes it's worth popping in to see what guest beers are on offer. Oncecan purchase beer by the picher and a 'try before you buy' service is offered in the form of a shotglass full of ale. There's no jukebox, music is often played, but is never too loud or intrusive. In short, if you're looking for a friendly place for a quiet pint of three, then I heartily recomend The Cricketers. read more
