Fish and Chips
Mo A.

Went here for lunch with a friend and ordered the fish and chips. Not traditional pieces of fish. One big fried piece. Fries were ok and not too crisp. The fish was quite good and house made tartar sauce was delicious. My friend had one of their many pies. She had the chicken pot pie and ate it all up so she enjoyed it. Service was slow at the start but then picked up and was fine. Inside the bar is cool and seems like it would be fun for a pint in the evening.

Really unique place in Pooler (the location is the only downside for us given we live in downtown Savannah). We enjoy their sister place, Little Crown, but this one is much better because it has a full menu. They have gluten free fish and chips! Unique (in America) British delights like curry chips. Amazing cocktails, including "tea" that actually comes in a teapot.

Service was phenomenal, super friendly, helpful, knowledgeable on the menu, and checked on us at the perfect times. I think our waitress' name was Emmy? Blonde hair, very pleasant, we loved her. Everyone else that worked there seemed lovely and helpful too. Food was great! The Peking Duck Fries were the bomb. My friend said the burger was amazing. The spicy fish & chips had a great flavor. Emmy helped us make decisions with the menu and we really appreciate it.

Excellent burgers. Even better dessert, save room. Service was great despite the fact that we arrived within an hour of closing time. The chips were much better than the usual fried potato. We tried the sticky toffee pudding and the banoffee pie. Both were fantastic. Meal prices ranged from 17-20. Desserts were 11-12. The offerings were absolutely worth the price.

If I could give 0 stars I really wish I could and I am not usually one of those people, but after the second back to back bad experience I just refuse to keep spending my money on a bad food. I recently came into the pub and decided to bring a few of the frozen pot pies home and to my surprise there's literally a chunk of chicken and nothing else inside; like where are the vegetables and the filling. I had purchased these for my mom who loves pot pies and it was a huge disappointment. My friend also purchased some and she mentioned hers not being great as well.

Solid all around experience. We didn't see the back areas, as we sat at the bar. Quant atmosphere that didn't overwhelm. Wait staff was courteous. Food was solid, with lots of options on draft. They gave free samples which was nice. The food itself was pretty good. The portions were decent sized, albeit a little expensive. There's a lot of good options to choose from. We tried to stick with some pub classics like fish and chips and cottage pie. We enjoyed our experience here and will be back!

We were regulars at this pub most of last year while traveling for work. When we heard that they added Gluten Free Fish and Chips to the menu, we drove the 300 miles back here to try it. Absolutely worth the drive. This place never disappoints! If you have food allergies give them a try. If you like good food also give them a try! Thanks to Frieda, Quin and the whole staff. Also there's a bakery and British shop to check out. Great feel to the place.

Crispy fish with shoestring fries! Melt in your mouth fish with a crispy coating!

So Glad we started restaurant week at the Crown & Anchor! The fisherman's pie was fantastic. Like a fish and shrimp chowder topped with creamy mashed potatoes! The fish and chips were cooked to a crispy perfection. Seasoned just right. Our server, Oz was so knowledgeable on the menu she helped us make the perfect picks. Great food and service made it a wonderful experience. Have a pint for me :-)

Eating English style fish and chips.

So, we're in Savannah for a few days and saw this place on yelp. The place is set up as a English pub and the menu reflects that. We ordered the fish and chips and OMG! the fish was an entire side filet and get this! It was over an 1" thick. It came with the obligatory French fries ( chips) and mushy peas, my favorite. I highly recommend this place and I wish I had more time in Savannah so I could explore the menu. So when in the area, take your family and enjoy.

First impressions: large interior, very well appointed and spacious. Massive bar with room to sit. A couple of nice TVs for sports and plenty of parking outside. I was greeted immediately once I planted my seat on a barred stool and offered a nice black and tan along with the menus. I stuck with the British appetizer, sampler platter or whatever and did not know what to expect. Probably the best onion rings and potato wedges I've ever had in any restaurant. The sausage rolls were definitely top tier and so was a scotch egg but then again it was the first time I've had one so I will keep trying on that one. There wasn't a lot of folks but I can imagine this place gets busy during soccer games or rugby. Well worth the trip.

Popped in for a slice of key lime pie to go. The server was kind, went to the kitchen, packed my slice of pie... They have the best key lime pie! Next time I'll dine for lunch or dinner, great menu... and have a delicious drink. The ambiance was very very nice, modern pub, with classic British decor here and there.

Our waitress approached management and they personally came to our table, offering to make us anything from the griddle. The wings were phenomenal (Spicy Garlic Parm and Jameson Honey Whiskey) and the drinks were very reasonably priced. All of the staff were friendly and checked on us, making us feel very welcomed. The atmosphere left nothing to be desired! We sat on the deck overlooking a small lake- there were string lights, some signs and decor, and just enough light to set a relaxing vibe. They were even decorating for Halloween, and all of the staff were happy and excited, such a nice sight that showcased a family environment. We later realized it was the owner who had approached us and personally cooked our food! What an amazing way to welcome and take care of customers! We have added this to our road-trip stops and can not wait to come back here again! Don't pass this one up, you won't be disappointed!

Great place! Food was delicious! So good we went twice on our five day trip to Savannah!!read more

Hi Everyone, So…read moreyou're dressed for the concert and maybe your seeing and are anticipating your delight while you listen to John Cougar Mellencamp, KC and the Sunshine Band, Chicago, Joe Bonamassa, Steve Martin and Martin Short, or the Motown All-Stars (e.g. "Holy Mackerel Ethel, we have to check out the Johnny Mercer, it's got some great shows." Rolling her eyes as if to say, who knew? As she has been saying this for years, as she utters, "Good idea, Geddes.") at the Johnny Mercer Theatre that starts at 7:30 PM. But where to eat, how to get to the restaurant, and back to theatre on time for the concert while making it easy, no stress, fun, relaxing, taste enthralling, thrilling, care free, laid back, exciting, entertaining, safe, and logistically possible? Well, let's see Sweetpea. How about we arrive at 4:30 PM, and park at the Liberty Street Parking garage, right accross the street from the Johnny Mercer Theatre. Easy, check. Next we get an Uber to the Six Pence Pub. Why? No stress, check. We start our meal, with one of their adventuresome, tasty, cocktails which are all fantastic. "But how about getting to the Concert?" Right now, we're having some fun hanging out with our friends and catching up. Fun, check. Please remember Poindexter (I.e. my name for my conscience), we're not driving until after the concert is over which leaves us about five hours to recover from our cocktail before dinner, or two, you Devil you! Relaxing, check. We next get to experience eating some of the most delicious food in Savannah, GA. From the Crab Cake, to the Scotch Eggs, to the Smoked Salmon to their bombastic Broiled Portabella, their appetizers were both savory and palette pleasing. Then our companions had their outstanding, tastebud tintilating, French Onion and Chicken Noddle soups which are both made from scratch. Yea, yea, French Onion and Chicken Noodle soup, big deal. If you have not had it, I am here to tell you, there is nothing ordinary about either, as both were very delicious. We then dined on their Open Roast Beef, their Tender Pot Roast, their Atlantic Salmon all of which offered a very pleasing, tremendous taste in their own right. However, the Broiled flounder stuffed with shrimp and scallops was so exceptional, we ordered another two of these entrees so we could all share this dish as part of each of our meals. Taste enthralling, check. Please note, I did not write the words, "Pub Food" above as the Six Pence Pub's fare will thrill your tastebuds right down to the last morsel. Thrilling, check. Our Server was exceptional, timely, and personable. Care free, check. Our ambience was simply Pub delightful! Laid back, check. But then the bill came and lo and behold our friend had to stand and do a little Irish jig, or did he have to go to the bathroom?... Nah, it was the very reasonable pricing that pleased us all as we scampered to catch our Uber. No, wait a minute, we did not dine and dash. We would never dine and dash. We tipped our Server handsomely, paid our bill, and then we all scampered to catch our Uber as we were all feeling wonderful. Exciting, check. We made the show with twenty-five minutes to spare, which left us enough time to buy our lovely dinner companions a show Tee Shirt to memorialize our evening together. Our show was extremely entertaining which thrilled us all, to no end. Thanks Steve and Martin, you're the best! Thrilling, and entertaining, double check. Logic dictates that when we were able to throughly enjoy our evening while having an easy, no stress, fun, relaxing, taste enthralling, thrilling, care free, laid back, exciting, entertaining time that it is, in fact, logistically possible. Logistically possible, check. And yes, we were safely able to enjoy our ride home while we all talked about how much we enjoyed our evening together. Safe, check. So what is the acronym or memory mnemonic here? ENSFRTETCFLBEESL But how do you pronounce it? Ya'll figure it out. I did almost all the work here in writing this review, lol. Enjoy!
