REVIEW OF RESTAURANT/PUB NOT HOTEL
The Cuckmere Inn is a very cute hotel with a pub/restaurant in the bottom of the building. It has ample in-door and out-door seating and is a popular location for those who want to see the Seven Sisters.
ORDER: Burger with mini-pudding and hot drink (I recommend the Earl Grey Tea and the mini-Eton Mess)
AVOID: Chickpea and Lentil Falafel; Treacle and Pecan Tart
When you arrive, find a table to sit at and have some of your companions stay at the table. To order food and drinks, take note of your table number and go to the bar to order. The food takes about 30 minutes to come out during the less busy times.
The burger was nice, I could really taste the smokey flavor from the grill. All of my companions who ordered the burger enjoyed it. My friend who ordered the chickpea and lentil falafel entree was quite disappointed. She said it was flavorless and dry. It's also important to note that they did have an extensive vegan menu. The Eton Mess dessert was delicious, but there were not many berries in the dessert. The chocolate fudge brownie is served with ice cream and is quite nice if you enjoy chocolate. The earl grey tea was delicious with the desserts.
Now, either before or after arriving at the Cuckmere Inn, take a walk to the Seven Sisters. DECIDE WHAT KIND OF VIEW YOU WANT BEFORE YOU BEGIN WALKING. If you walk out of the Inn and cross the bridge and enter the first gate on the opposite side of the bridge and begin walking then you can choose from two types of views. The first is the view of some of the Seven Sisters from the beach, but you can only see part of the Seven Sisters, but it is still beautiful. Be careful of the tide because during high tide, it can be difficult to walk back. The other path you can take will take you up the Seven Sisters, but its hard to see the Seven Sisters when you're standing on top of them... Also, if you choose to take this path, WEAR SHOES CONDUCIVE TO CHALLENGING WALKING (i.e. no high heels, no sneakers). Additionally, this is also a challenging, uphill path and takes a lot of time, so a lot a couple of hours. The other option for viewing is to NOT CROSS THE BRIDGE and walk along the little river to the other side of the beach, from there you can climb a hill and get the classic view of the Seven Sisters. Also, bring a scarf and a hair tie because this is on the coast near cliffs and there is a lot of cool wind.
Worth the trip! Next time I would wear a thicker jacket. read more
