The first day: I really liked my cut, my hair looked nice and Lexi maintained length as I had asked her to. However a few days later I realized some pieces were uneven, now I understand that a curly cut is based off your curl pattern and we have different curl patterns in our hair yet it was my front pieces which I pull out for a ponytail etc. I emailed her explaining this, essentially seeking out to see if those pieces could be evened out. I never received a response, which is beyond unprofessional. I'm disappointed and now months later of course my hair has grown out uneven. I've been getting curly cuts for 4 years before coming here and unfortunately my stylist moved to a different city so now my search continues. I used to swear by this salon, but their quality has seriously dropped. Appointments for a cut are 30 minutes and cost 100$+. My stylist was nice, but she rushed me and cut my hair shorter than I asked, and removed all of my volume when I specifically said to leave it. You will be so rushed at this salon that you can't even ask for adjustments, because the next customer is already walking in and your stylist is kicking you out of the chair! This haircut and color was supposed to be a birthday gift to myself and while my stylist did an amazing job with my curly cut and style with face framing highlights. I just felt like an inconvenience from start to finish. I had to use box dye in 2020 due to the pandemic and no salons being open, I understand that it could cause problems with the money piece highlights I wanted. I came in with very realistic expectations and my stylist did their best and I am really happy with the way the hair turned out. I just felt like gum on the bottom of someone's shoe through the entire service. I got the nastiest phone call while I was at work that they are refusing to honor my groupon purchase/reservation because "they don't manage the groupon web portal." They have it posted you can rebook 180 days from an original reservation and repurchase a new groupon. They are refusing to honor the fine print on an ad they posted! Claiming they don't control whats on a web portal that they manage. From someone who personally manages a business on a day to day, yes you absolutely do. You choose on the portal what your guidelines are and what is included and excluded in the packages. The receptionist was extremely nasty and refused to get me in contact with a manager. I am disgusted by the interaction this morning and will ensure anyone I come in contact I let them know how poorly managed this place is. I arrived late for my 4:30pm appointment; I arrived at 4:45 pm and within the grace period as the stylist, Belinda, reminded me upon arrival. She stated had a birthday party to go to and could not see me. I asked if I could be seen again because I had arrived within the grace period and said she said no. I asked if another stylist could see me and again met with a no. Not sure what the actual hair service is like here but it's a tiny salon with an unprofessional stylist at the least. Making a appointment is easy and fast. My scalp was dry from just doing co washes. The shampoo guy(totally forgot his name) scrubbed ,and cleaned my scalp really nice. My haircut at the curl suite was one of the worst haircuts I have gotten in my life. Lexi was not friendly, and provided neither the consultation, or the cut and styling lesson as listed on the appointment. Additionally, I asked to keep my hair long, and only cut off an inch or two for upkeep, for absolutely no volume,, and to trim my bangs. At the end of the haircut my hair was significantly shorter, and now sticks out on the sides because of Lexi cutting off about five inches on the sides of my hair. My bangs were also cut much longer than I asked and I had to go home and re-cut them myself. The volume in my hair makes it appear triangular and sticks out at odd angles. This is exactly what I asked not to do and now my hair is irreversibly cut to a style which I hate and specifically noted I did not want. Quite possibly the worst haircut I've ever gotten, from Lexi. My curl pattern is completely disrupted and no longer exists; my hair is now wavy rather than spiral curled as it normally was, and the layering is so poorly done. My hair is simply impossible to style now and I have no choice but to live with it for a few months until it grows out and find a different stylist. I'm truly upset. I visited the Westbury location. I had a cut and deep conditioner done by Alex the owner. What I like about her was she asked me what products I was using on my hair and taught me how to use the blow dryer to stretch out the roots. In addition, she gave me a cut that gave my hair a beautiful shape that was not too short and easy to manage. Moreover, she has her own product line that smell really good. She was very interested in my maintenance of healthy hair and suggested utilizing good conditioning. It is apparent that she is very knowledgeable about curly hair. The salon was as described- 3 chairs. I did need a shampoo which Belinda rushed and my scalp was not clean prior to conditioning, I would have preferred her to take her time and charge me more if need be but that's not what happened. I was berated for not getting regular haircuts and not taking great care of my hair overall (as hairstylists, you should be mindful you don't know the situation of the person sitting in front of you- even with the Groupon this was an expensive experience which I doubt most people could regularly afford, and I have major depression so self care is not my forte). My haircut did have layers, I guess unlike many people here, but some bits in the back are very short and look weird and affect how I can style my hair. Once it was styled, my hair looked pretty and the products smelled nice. I got complements and the curls were well defined. I wanted to maintain the style but mostly I just wanted to re-shampoo well. Honestly, I will probably go back because curly girls don't have a ton of options in NY that aren't a fortune but I hope my future experiences go better. read more

The cut wasnt bad, and I enjoyed learning about my wavy-curly hair. First problem: I didn't realize I was charged for a toner. Usually at all the salons I've been to, toning, if needed, is included in the coloring process. The problem wasn't the charge per se. The problem wasn't the charge per se; it was the lack of transparency. I should've been told before going into the process that the salon charges more for toner. This is not a standard practice, so it can't be assumed.  My biggest issue actually is with the color itself. It is clear that my hair became a rusty orange color after a week! (In the picture, my curls haven't been forming right since the color so i have pulled it back in a ponytail). Now that it's lighter, I can see how the it's not a soft and dimensional brown face frame where the color is nicely melted/blended in. When I pull my hair in a ponytail, all you see are these ugly chunky solid stripes of orange. There was no attention to detail.  Many people, have asked, with a concerned look, where I got my hair done. They have advised me to never go back. I very much regret this coloring experience. Moreover, I had gotten the single process to cover greys. All the greys were not covered.   Belinda did a botched coloring job. (I haven't even mentioned how she didn't seem very friendly to begin with, and only softening at the very end.) What was supposed to be a fun experience has become an embarrassing hair nightmare. To add insult to injury, the company has not stayed unresponsive and it's been after 6 business days. If you want your concerns taken seriously and good customer service, do not go here! I'm writing this review from the perspective of someone whose curls are not damaged, because I started my natural hair journey several years ago. So I already went through the big chop and all that. My best friend recommended this place - she found it on Groupon. She liked her results; so I bought a Groupon and tried it out too. My hairstylist was Jay. Jay was cool and conversational. He seemed to know what he's doing as a hairstylist. I went in for a deep treatment, trim & style. Jay was super efficient with time. The Groupon says it'll take an hour, and that it did. That's usually a great thing, but I feel that some steps of the process were rushed - I even left with some curls still wet. I think slowing down a bit would benefit everyone. The trim was exactly what I wanted - he did not cut off my hair as some hairstylists might do. My friends say they did not even notice I trimmed my hair. That's a good thing! I give this place a 3.5 because of the styling products. My hair is curly. It's not super curly/coily, but it's not wavy either. I have thick hair. I need a gel to lock my hair in place. One super light product was used. I left the place and my hair was frizzy and it looked dry. Really was not a fan of the styling session. I waited until I washed my hair and styled it on my own to write this review. Besides the bangs being slightly too short for my liking, I'm digging the cut. So yeah, that's my review on the whole session. I'm probably not gonna come back solely because of the products. I feel like the products cater to thinner and very loose curls. read more

Alex was friendly and very knowledgeable about curly hair, so I knew I was in the right hands. She gave me tips on how to style my hair and the whole process was finished in 30 minutes. Every stylist I visited in the past goes over a few basics with a client at a first appointment: hair, shape of face, options for a haircut ... Here it was more like "What do you want?" followed by a 10 minute "deep conditioning", a fast but okay haircut and too much heat which was never checked as the stylist at this two-chair operation was rather busy chatting away with her colleague. Belinda didn't even take the time to pick up a mirror and show me the result of her work from all sides (I did it myself ...). My appointment was rescheduled with Belinda the day i was initially suppose to go. Belinda was sweet over text messages. I had the old suite number so when i texted her she responded quickly and came to get me. She washed my hair and asked why i wasnt getting a cut. I explained that i had just gotten a cut about 2 months ago. She deep conditioned my hair which i honestly dont consider a deep condition because when I do at home i leave it for about 20 to 30 minutes. The deep conditioner was left for less than 10 minutes and washed off. She styled my hair and diffused. She showed me techniques that help my hair curl. I overall wasnt crazy about it as I felt rushed. In my experience with other hair stylist they take time and put effort into doing your hair making sure you're happy with the results. My hair was still damped when i walked out. I love groupon and getting deals to try certain things. I just dont appreciate when buisnesses give those deals and dont put in the same effort as if i were to book through their website. I use groupon to see which places i would return to in the future. I wouldnt return here. I also want to note that they also charge a fee from groupon. That didnt bother me but to someone else it may be something they dont like. read more

tl;dr: Go somewhere else! -- Came in asking for something cool, got middle-aged suburban mom instead. People usually think I'm five years younger than I actually am, and now I look ten years older than my actual age. Belinda said my inspo pics are too short for how often I want to upkeep, which is fine. They all show a pretty significant length difference between front and back, and there's nothing suburban about any of them. She said she'd give me a short inverted bob instead, which is my usual. She immediately and before I could object, in one swoop, cut too much off the front to get any sort of decent inversion. She cut the rest, and then while it was still soaking wet asked what I thought, as if she were done. I told her I had no way of knowing until it was dry, and she said, "oh, you want me to style it?" as if that were weird or extra. I've never walked out of a curly cut with wet hair. And there's no indication on the website that that's the plan when you book. I was so grateful to have some sense of what it looked like that I said it was fine once it was dry--since the next person was already there and crowding the space, I didn't feel like I had a choice. As soon as I was out in the hall and looking in a full mirror I realized it was even worse than I'd thought. I'm an actor. I can't afford to look dumpy or older than I am. I'm now in a position where I have to go significantly shorter than I intended to try to fix this, in addition to paying someone else to do it, or I wait six months for it to grow out and forgo work in the meantime. -- I sent the above feedback to The Curl Suite via their Square feedback option. It's been two weeks and I haven't heard back, which is why I'm now posting it publicly. In the meantime, I've discovered just how sloppy the cut was--there are several places where the curls are different lengths, and places where there's just sort of holes in the layers. I've also got Krusty the Clown points on either side. I'd attribute that to Belinda not bothering to reshape it once the curls were dry--and not having time to, because 30 mins is not a long enough time slot to do a decent job. I wanted to post an update to my last post as I have received excellent customer service from Alex after my haircut. She had me in to check the cut and did agree with me that it was bad, however she was SO apologetic and she made me feel so heard and so understood. She didn't deny or give excuses or anything, simply she just was a comforting and reassuring that with time things could be fixed. Alex offered me a comp cut once it grew out a bit and has been good on her word and I am scheduled for a cut with her next week. She made me feel very comfortable when I met with her last time that I don't feel too nervous going back to the salon for another cut. I can't wait to finally rock my curls the way they should be. I always get so nervous about getting my hair cut as someone who has a history of bad haircuts from people who don't know how to cut curly hair. So, I was a little nervous when I got a Groupon to come here to get a haircut with Belinda. I was running a little late, but she was so nice and understanding about it, offered me water, and then asked me how I wanted my hair cut. Belinda listened to all of my ideas, explained to me what she was going to do, and then we got started. As she cut my hair, she asked me about my curly routine and also gave me a lot of tips and tricks for improving my routine which I really appreciated. In the end, she left me with a great cut, didn't take off any more than I wanted, and taught me a lot about how to care for my hair. where do I begin. Sigh.... its not worth it even with the Groupon. Just go get your curl gig but without the haircut. They definitely do not know how to cut hair. It's either that or that time does not allow for them to do it right. I walked out of there one side shorter than the other and that's after I tried pointing it out but she cut me off saying she'd fix It after. she went at it again but I get the feeling she's got spatial issues. It's still lopsided. I heard other reviews mention the same thing That their hair was longer on one side. The haircut is an unflattering triangular shape, nothing like the image I had shown them. They didnt section my hair to cut it, they just went right into and accross the length while my hair hung down. I walked out of there looking like Mary Tyler Moore. I gave them my tip and went on my way thinking when when I wear it curly it'll be ok. I tried it wavy, I tried it straightened and it's just a horrible haircut that doesn't fall naturally and is just a sloppy shape that I just end up puttIng up in a pony tail. I'm so frustrated that I have to go somewhere to get it fixed and pay again. The place is a gimmick "one haircut fits them all" place and all The basic hair cutting training seems like they threw it out the window. You can get a better more professional haircut from any local Dominican lady salon, they're usually crowded. During Covid season that's not ideal so I gotta either wait till all this is over or risk it again with another Groupon place. read more

The owner knows how to manage multiple people but until there's more space, everybody is in your conversation so it will be hard to have a genuine one-on-one conversation with the stylist. When I walked into the Curl Suite, my hair was a disaster - damaged, uneven, with severe breakage. I was at my wits end after five years of trying and failing to grow my hair out after a traumatizing "haircut." I used to see Alex at the ouidad salon nearly 10 years ago for the curl softening treatment on my stubborn hairline pieces that never matched the rest of my hair. I tried to go all natural and not use chemicals, but these parts of my hair are too obnoxious. I found Alex had a new salon and knew i had to come back and i was in good hands! The curl suite is a part of a bigger salon space which is wonderful. The suite itself is intimate and private which i like. Alex's knowledge of hair and curls is amazing, definitely one of the best in the business. She knew my troubles and struggles and did exactly what i wanted: curl softening so my front pieces behave better and look better with the rest of my head. She listened carefully to my concerns and what my goals were. Afterwards, she used her deep treatment on me which is fantastic and styled my hair.
