I found this place simply by asking a friend to recommend a good dentist, and she recommended Dr Vavala at this place, and I must admit that he is pretty good. He doesn't full up a list of unnecessary procedures, and if at a later date he decides that a particular procedure isn't necessary, he will remove it from the list. I've found him, and his staff, to be really friendly. However, then comes the next problem - getting an appointment. That, unfortunately, I can't help you with because the good ones tend to have a pretty full book as it is.

It's run out of a house in a residential Brunswick neighbourhood, and from the moment you step inside you can tell that it's a different kind of dental practice. Dr Helen Arabatzis and her staff are caring, friendly and professional and will do everything they can to make you feel at ease. They practice a 'less is more' philosophy with a focus on prevention, and will not insist on invasive dental work unless it is absolutely necessary. Eg, I had a few smallish spots of decay that another dentist had insisted required fillings (and the cost of several hundred dollars), but Dr Arabatzis said that it would be better to monitor them and put in some sealants to prevent further decay. Two years later, they haven't changed, and I still haven't needed fillings. Hooray! Let's face it, going to the dentist isn't something anyone looks forward to. But with their laid-back family practice vibe, fantastic facilities, and patient-first treatment practices, Brunswick Family Dental is as good as it gets!

The dentist was lovely, even if he did break my heart by telling me that grazing may be the best thing for your waistline, but the worst thing for your teeth. Darn decay. He was constantly checking in throughout the procedure making sure I was still comfortable, which was very reassuring. I was happy with the work, it was expensive like all dentists are, but would definitely recommend them.

Most visits either cost me nothing or perhaps $30 or so! They also have good prices for HBF clients and organise special rates for students. I see Dr Matthew, a young(ish) dentist who is straight forward and practical. My visits with him are quick, but he always takes the time after a check-up and clean to explain what he observes happening with my teeth and what steps I can take to prevent wear and tear or maintain their health. He seems to have a less-is-more approach and won't suggest unnecessary treatments or procedures, which is something I've experienced in the past at other dentists. This keeps my visits (and costs) to a minimum, for which I'm grateful. Apart from the ease in which I can get an appointment (usually within the week), what I love about Bouverie is the super lovely receptionist who always welcomes me and sends me home with a "showbag" of toothbrush and fancy-pants toothpaste. It's the level of customer service and pleasant and kind welcome that really makes a difference here at Bouverie.
