Like the whole place, it's a bit ragged round the edges, a bit unkempt, like the disused old dockside warehouse buildings waiting, probably vainly, for a trendy arty community to go and revitalise them. But, in a funny sort of way, this is part of the charm of the place, it's seaside, but not upmarket, trendy or snooty, but down to earth (wind and sea), a place for everyone.

Porthcawl Harbour and the surrounding area are a tourist attraction in the middle of Porthcawl,…read moresituated between the the esplanade and eastern promenade. Alongside the harbour itself - which is reasonably small, holding around 50 boats is a purpose built lifeboat station, which is often open to the public to explore. 'Cosy Corner' is a green, park area, which has previously been home toa theatre, cinema, roller skating rink and ballroom. It is now quite scruffy and run-down, but is pleasant enough on a summers day. The Jennings Building, a grade II listed building which is Wales' oldest maritime warehouse, is currently home to the PADS Skate Boarding Centre, which can be visited for a few quid. There is a giant chess board area near the lifeboat station - but no pieces, so immagination is required! At the end of Porthcawl Pier there is a lighthouse, which is approximately 140 years old. The Pier and the area surrounding the harbour are popular spots for sea fishing. There is a small bait and tackle shop near the lifeboat station. A small Sidoli's cafe and ice cream shop stands near the harbour. There are one or two outside tables, but this mainly caters for take-away ice creams. You can sail on the historic ships the Waverley, the world's last sea-going paddle steamer, and the Balmoral from this area during the summer months.[3] The whole of the harbour quarter has been identified as an important area as part of the Porthcawl Regeneration Strategy. The Porthcawl Sea Festival, Summer Markets and Surf Cult Festival often focus on this area - and they are best enjoyed on busy, sunny summer days.

Funderzone is a big indoor soft play centre. There are climbing frames, inflatables, ball pits,…read moreslides and lots more for your child to enjoy. All of the equipment is safe and surrounded in safety netting. There are staff that watch the children to make sure no one is messing around. But obviously you will need to keep an eye on your children to. There is also a room upstairs which has a pool table and downstairs it has a few arcade machines where you can win teddies and sweets. Whilst your children are running around you can get something to eat in the café which is all open plan. The café sells burgers, chips, hot drinks, cold drinks and slush puppies etc.. I find the food is slightly over priced but it tastes nice. The good thing about the cafe being open plan is that you can see your children playing; there is some seating underneath the play equipment as well so you can look up and see your children. The play centre is to suit all ages and I'm sure your children will love it.

We were really going to the five times award winning restaurant, Terra Madre (part of the Slow Food network), for their 3 course lunch at £14.95 en route to our destination in North Devon, so did not have time to book ahead. Booking is essential. So we were offered the Bar Menu instead, which was actually a very good choice, 3 home made tapas dishes for £9.95, which consisted of a rather large bowl of piping hot buttersquash soup with two slices of homemade crusty bread, garlic prawns, hake in tomato cassoulet, garlic mushrooms, and Moroccan style lamb casserole. We added a couple of side dishes of mixed salad and homemade sourdough bread and olive oil. What a feast, all so, so delicious too! Fresh and more-ish, yum! With the booked lunch, you get a free ticket for the Sculpture Park, otherwise it is £4.50. After the meal, we had a look at the interesting art gallery cum dining hall. Some lovely pieces of art and paintings which can be bought. There are also tables outside to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere, have a drink or eat al fresco. Will need to return to wander round the Sculpture Park properly, in such a relaxed and beautiful setting.

The Broomhill Sculpture Park displays one of the largest permanent collections of contemporary art and sculpture in the South West. 300 sculptures by over 60 sculptors are sited in 10 acres of garden that present a wonderful balance between art and nature. This place is quite fantastic and is apparently one of very few art hotels in the UK. During your stay you can not only walk around the gardens and view all of the sculptures, but you can even purchase them afterwards (if you bring a very big chequebook!!). The gardens were a little drab when we visited, (but it was December!!), but I would imagine that during the warmer months they are quite breath taking. An art gallery is situated in the main dining area of the hotel itself and has many many pictures to view and purchase. The place caters for all sort of events such as weddings, large and small parties and corporate events (with its very own corporate facilities). The hotel is also renowned for its many Jazz events held throughout the year. The rooms are very reasonably priced and you get alot for your money. They are very spacious and have everything you need to make your stay very comfortable, with beautiful views over the Devon countryside. The setting is very rural and therefore very quiet and makes for a very relaxing stay and a very quiet nights sleep. The staff are a husband and wife combo (Dutch), and are two of the friendliest people you will ever meet in this business, who could not do enough to help you (especially if you like to drink tea!!). The food is organic and sourced from the local area, which is probably why it tastes absolutely fantastic (the Morroccan food is especially nice). Even if you don't stay at the hotel you should try out its restaurant, which is also very reasonably priced considering the standard. If I was going to be very very fussy then I would have to say that the alcohol is a little pricey, but I suppose it is a hotel after all. Saying that, if you visit their website, you will find that the hotel does do a number of offers to bring the price of staying at the hotel down even further i.e. B&B and reduced price evening meal. A must stop when visiting N. Devon.

A cheaper and less organised campsite in Brauton that's perfect for groups of friends. Unlike the…read moreholiday park campsites (Ruda has marked out plots), you can set you camper or tent up almost wherever you want. Most importantly, you can camp next to your friends. There are few facilities but the shower area is great. I almost expected there to be a jacuzzi! The staff are friendly, as were the campers, and the site is only a couple of minutes extra walk from the beach than the Ruda site.

My parents sited their caravan here by chance, we will now camp there for several weeks and many weekends through out the year. Owned by fantastically friendly people too. Build camp fires where you wish, play in the river, go horse riding or on picturesque walks through and around the Doone Valley. I'm a photographer / walker and I absolutely love it here, so does my other half and our 4yr old daughter as well as my parents.

Most beautiful river fronted campsite and wild ponys too. We came across this great little site…read morehidden in a deep valley well away from civilisation. Beautiful stunted oak wood covered in moss and lichen. Dog friendly though lots of sheep wandering about. Very helpful and friendly owner. We're definitely coming back in the spring for a longer stay.

With 18-30s fellow campers, but a chilled out atmopshere and friendly staff on site! You can camp for about £17 per person per night. With onsite toliets and shower blocks. There are other types accomadation such as log cabins and static caravans. There Cheap drinks in the on site clubhouse! 2for1 on all alcholic drinks, themed nights and a dancefloor. with a petrol station next door with mini super market for any essentials. Park next to tents and dogs allowed too with small fee per dog. Its near to woolacombe town centre but abit of a far walk to recommend taxi or drive. Will definalty be returning again very soon! :)

This campsite is great for groups, there is plenty of space for you to spread out and not be too…read moremuch bother to your neighbours. On arrival one of our friends was made to pay a large deposit (£110) because there was a large group of us, this was more irritating than anything cause we weren't warmed about this before hand, we did get the money back the next day so it was fine in the end!! There's no frills at this campsite, the facilities are basic but clean and probably all you need for a weekend away with your mates! The on sight bar is well, um, interesting! They play music and serve till 1am, it's also 241 drinks during happy hour! They do have pool tables, and poles for pole dancing should this be your thing!?!! It's a really chilled campsite and your not going to be told to keep the noise down every five minutes unless it gets really late! The views from this campsite are incredible, the sea and beach looks stunning!!

We are on holiday here at the moment and this is a very nice campsite. It's on the north Devon…read morecoast with friendly staff, especially Jim who's always on his quad bike. The pitches are level on most of the site. It has it's own beach access to launch boats and kayaks. It also hires canoes, paddles, safety vests too. The small bar gives the impression of quaint pub with its terrace overlooking the cove and beach below. They had music playing most nights and as the weather was so good, the artists played outside. They have pool, football and tennis tables in this area too. Just around the corner from the small shop, they have 2 swimming pools. My son said one is much warmer than the other. If you are keen on fishing, you can cast straight off the coast and even BBQ what you catch. Lots of people brought their own watercraft, powered and non powered. Jim will even launch some boats on trailers with his quad bike. Watermouth Cove is one of the nicest campsites I have been to in years and I will definitely be coming back.
