From my time being at the mall this was by far my most favorite store to visit. This place has a lot of great detroit themed merchandise and products are great for decoration as well. I found a great ordeal of t-shirt as well that I wish I could have bought. Prices here are actually pretty fair and a selection here is above all incredible. Staff here was friendly and helpful throughout my entire visit as well. I love your little diner that they have featured in the window! that is the thing that lured me into the store. The location I went to was in Downtown Detroit right next to the Element Hotel. Super cute shop with lots of fun items to look at or purchase (cards depicting local areas in the Detroit area), shirts, hats, Lions, Tigers and Detroit gear. Great for souvenirs or gifts. We got a Lions sweatshirt and a couple Detroit t-shirts (yay, they are long enough for tall people 6'4") and reasonable prices. You can try them in the small area in the back, just ask. This is a nice shop with both Detroit themed and Michigan themed products for sale. I wouldn't mind if it had more Michigan themed items, but the selection is reasonable and includes apparel, postcards, prints, coasters, glassware, and a lot of other merchandise as well as Michigan based products such as Better Made chips and other items. The prices are a little inflated for some items but that is probably to be expected from a souvenir shop and/or one located at Somerset. read more

How can you not like this shop, especially if you are from Detroit. They have anything and everything you could want that based from our Great Lake state and the D of course. Better made chips and a snacks, Faygo sodas, clothing, books about our great state and about Detroit. Mitten made jams. Made in Detroit swag. Detroit pint glasses. It's a favorite spot for me whenever I need Birthday or Christmas gifts for my family or friends. If you are at Somerset, why not take a gander. read more

Love this store! Service was great! The girl greeted us as soon as we entered and was still personable at the register. She was the only worker in there. She told us that it hadn't been that busy all day, but as soon as she got in this afternoon there were a lot of people. I came around 7:40 ish and there was a good handful of people in here. More people came in as we looked around. They had a lot of stuff! It's a touristy store, but seems like you can just come if you want Detroit gear anyway. They've got pictures posted in a little hallway about the history of Detroit, postcards, t shirts, raglans, mugs, beer glasses, mousepads, coffee, etc. Some of the stuff seemed a bit pricey, but I'm sure people will buy the stuff anyway. I got a nice beer glass for $9. Can't wait to go back again! read more

I actually really love the concept of this store. They have the Made in Detroit hats, shirts, and other apparel. I thought the Faygo section upon walking in was really cool and reminded me of my childhood. I saw some really cool class blown items and coasters, along with Detroit books. There was a cute popcorn machine in the back with pint glasses above it. I remember my sister found a Detroit patch in here for her jacket. I also saw some Better Made chips, my favorite. They have some really neat and interesting things in this store. One of my favorite things is the design of the store. I love the lit up signs. They have interesting items hanging on the walls. All kinds of posters and picture frames. We were in a bit of a rush, but I loved their mission statement so I will return in the future to get a hat that matches my sisters. I thought about the coffee mug as well because my brother in law collects them. I'm unsure if he has a Made in Detroit mug yet. It's worth looking into though. read more

This place, however, would get 5/5 if they were in a more central location of the mall. It's kind of hard to find this store when it's all the way up on the top floor by Macy's. read more

Very cute shop and a must-visit if you're in the area looking for a souvenir for someone out of state. I didn't even realize Towne Club soda was from Detroit until I saw it here along with other area-specific products. The shop was well-organized and the girl working there was very nice and had some good snack recommendations. This store is like a mini museum, filled with hometown memories. It is all things Detroit. From jars of Sanders hot fudge sauce to books about historic Detroit, this is the place to shop if you are truly looking for gifts that represent where you are from, and boast about what good can come from Detroit. I like the framed photos of quintessential Detroit architecture, like the Guardian Building (My mom worked there when she first moved here from England and married my dad). You can buy artistic glassware (Liberty Craftworks) designed at The Henry Ford. And yes, you can buy Faygo, albeit cheaper at Kroger's. read more

I asked if I buy too many can I return and she said sure. when I tried to take an extra item back the person in the store said they have a no return policy. it would have been nice if the sales associate told me this before I purchased some high priced items. Since I've moved out of state, I'm always on the prowel for Detroit stuff to show my pride for my hometown city. I could order online, but sometimes I just don't feel like it. My mom and I initially came to Somerset to get shoes, and as soon as we walked into the main part of the mall, I saw this shop and did a B line to see what they had. I fell in love with their selection of items...T-shirts, coffee mugs, street signs, books, and a bunch of other stuff too! Their prices are fair, and they have a huge selection of Detroit stuff for just about everyone. They have a Motown section, Michigan Humane society (all the profits from that section go right to the humane society which is awesome) and a bunch of different Detroit tops as well. I picked up some bumper stickers and a few fridge magnets since they were out of my size in the T shirts that I wanted. (I also found another Detroit T shirt elsewhere for cheaper, so good thing I didn't buy here.) Staff here was friendly and cool, selection was awesome, and a great variety of Detroit stuff to choose from. It's a newer store, and has only been open since March, according to the staff. When I come back to Michigan, I will surely make a stop here to shop again! read more

I always find a couple of things to purchased and my total is under $100.00 I'd say 9 out 10 visits. Great location on the Third Floor, with plenty of parking. You can do covered in the garage or Valet parking. The staff at "The Detroit Shoppe" is always available to answer your question in regards to the famous pictures or the history books. The Gear, Well I could go nuts with the Gear ! All kinds of very cool one of a kind Detroit T-Shirts. (I.e) Landmarks, Gear Head, Sports & Arts. The T-Shirts are $20 - $30 each. Framed or Non-Framed Pictures are Awesome ! The posters $15.00 - $20.00, but the other Framed Pictures mostly B&W are $40 - $100 range. Great selection on T-Shirts, Posters, Books, Sports, Pictures. On initial thought, I figured this place would be filled with tacky "F You, I'm From Detroit, lol" stickers, but it's actually quite classy. Although Kid Rock still adorns the window. The store is half/museum and half gift shop. It's a great place to buy thing for removed Detroiters, and they have everything from DIA swag to Bettwe Made Chips and Faygo. The prices are amazing because everything in the store is on consignment. Faygo is $1 a bottle. Try getting that price for any other drink in Somerset. It's not cold though, so deal with it. They also have some more high-end things like posters and collectables if you're richer than me, which you probably are. The only minus of this place is the staff. It's quite obvious they've never done retail before and are quite slow at the registers. This place also ignores the hipster population of Detroit, which is another thing I enjoy. Get your ironic vintage flannel Vernors shirt somewhere else. Rumor has it that this store will be closing at the end of January, but only time will tell. read more

Great feel for the D and many great items to choose from. They have all unique Detroit products and memorabilia here to choose from. They also have a museum within the store where you can get a feel for Motown and the rich history. It is a little pricey but worth it when you can't find some of the books, framed pictures, street signs, records and many other things elsewhere. read more

Very nice "Detroit Made" store located in Somerset mall. They have a wide variety of Detroit Vintage drink coasters, flyers/posters, and other merchandise focused on the wonderful landmarks of the Detroit area. The only downside of this place (since it's a non-profit) is that if you need to return something, you have to exchange it for something of equal value. I bought a hat that didn't fit for someone and had to exchange it for 4 coasters. Oh well, the coasters are great and don't make rings or condensate on the table. read more

I found myself with 1 hour at Somerset before it closed for the evening and had a few things to return and shop for. But I made it through my list pretty quickly and had a few minutes to spare at The Detroit Shoppe. I had been wanting to check this place out ever since it opened, then it closed and I was sad I hadn't gotten a chance to go. Then it opened again and all was right with the world. I love all things Detroit and this store has it all - sports memorabilia, food, books, clothing, stickers etc. all things MI and Detroit. I think a lot of the items sold can be found at other stores, but it's nice to have it all in one spot. I think the prices are on par with other stores that carry the same merchandise. I was pretty glad to see that the peanuts sold at Comerica Park are here for $1 (maybe $1.50) cheaper than the ballpark. I bought a '313 Detroit' (in Sesame Street style) baby onesie for an expecting friend and it was $21, which is definitely more than I would want to spend on something for a kid, who might wear it a handful of times. But this momma to be lives out of state so I figured I could splurge so her baby knows its roots. Definitely a fun place to get a Detroit gift for a loved one, or a bunch of stuff for a Detroit gift basket. I'm sure I'll be back to browse and spend money on something I don't really need but convince myself that I do. read more

Amazing is the one word to describe this. When I firt herd the store was opening I thought it was going to see stupid shirts like 'Detroit: Where the weak are killed and eaten." So I did not have my hopes set too high. But visiting on the opening day was spectacular. A lot of old artifacts from the Tiger Stadium, to Verners, Faygo, Pewabric Pottery, Ford, Detroit, Redwings, ect. Anything you can think of associated with the Metro Detroit area that has history in it is for sale here. It is basically like a giant auction house for historical artifacts and souvenirs. I loved my visit to the store/museum because it is some of both. The memorabilia from my childhood made me stop in my tracks and say, "Hey! I remember that!" There were things I learned that I never knew as well. The staff was friendly and quite helpful. The only thing I would recommend is that for the location that is located in Downtown Detroit is to put a sign in the window saying that it's only open for special event weekends, please come see us at the Troy store. People were constantly peering in the window. If it wasn't for the fact that I pulled out my phone and ran a search and found the Troy store to place a call did I even find out about this place. Besides, it is kinda ODD that The Detroit Shoppe is located in TROY, not DETROIT. HELLO!!! read more

This review is for the Downtown Detroit location on Woodward Ave. that I visited on 9/30/13. I was a first time visitor from San Francisco in Detroit and was pleasantly surprised by the downtown area, it had some cool stuff, a lot of neat outdoor art and a general air of optimism and rebirth. I was looking for a cool souvenir to take home, and this place does have some cool stuff. Great selection of t-shirts and bags, coasters, with really neat historical designs or old graphics related to Detroit. I would have bought something in a heartbeat, but it was SO overpriced I just couldn't. I don't think I am cheap. I would have spent $45 on a decent hoodie sweatshirt with a cool logo, and they had these, but they were $60. I would have spent $28 on a decent women's style v-neck with nice graphics, but theirs were super thin fabric and they were $38. You should know you are overpriced when your stuff is more expensive than the gift shop at the Westin! Look, if you want to get the word out about Detroit being a pretty cool place that is ripe for a comeback, you should want people visiting to buy cool apparel, take it back to their home states, wear the hell out of it and tell people about the surprisingly good time you had in Detroit. You don't have to sell cheap stuff, but you should try to keep t-shirts under $30 and sweatshirts under $50. I would have bought something if you had. read more

This store is awesome. It's a little like a museum gift shop as other reviewers have said...they have tons of Detroit stuff to show hometown pride or get for someone who has maybe moved out of state. Great gifts for people who grew up with Detroit faves like Faygo. For Christmas I'll be making a Detroit gift basket for a family member with Better Made Chips, a Faygo t shirt, a pack of Red Pop, and some McClure's pickles (not "retro" but still made in MI!) There's Pewabic pottery/tiles, Tigers and Lions stuff, retro food stuff, music stuff, etc. If you know someone who loves Detroit, you *will* find them an amazing gift here.
