Walking around distillery district was so fun, and the weather was amazing to stroll around. We even got to see a free live music performance, and the vibes were immaculate because everyone was gathered around at all the open air restaurants and bars that had TVs going for the soccer matches, so we stood around and watched the games and got to react with everyone in live time.
(Visited 09/02/2025 TU @ 8:30pm): Distillery may have been its history, but this open-air district has become more than that! After I imbibed at Old Flame Brewing Co., I explored The Distillery Historic District where it was located for a leisurely first evening in Toronto. Over 20 years ago, a small group of visionary developers looked at a derelict collection of Victorian Industrial buildings that had been pronounced a national historic site and imagined transforming it. They wanted to create a place that would excite and inspire the senses. Where people could experience new ideas, new foods, new designs and new ways of living and working. The vision was to combine the romance and relaxing atmosphere of European walking and patio districts with the hip, cool dynamic of an area like New York City's SoHo or Chelsea, where creative minds got together and you felt as if anything could happen. Their dream was to provide a place where artists, artisans, entrepreneurs and businesspeople could rub shoulders and inspire each other. So, they began plans to restore the 47 buildings known as the Gooderham & Worts Distillery. They went to great lengths in the restoration process to repurpose original materials and brilliantly blend them with today's modern materials and green technologies. One could only marvel at the authentic exterior restoration that was achieved. But it was when you stepped inside the buildings that you truly realized the magnitude of what was accomplished. What you found was a dramatic fusion of old and new. An inspired blend of Victorian Industrial architecture and stunning 21st century design and creativity. The result was an internationally acclaimed village of one-of-a-kind stores, shops, galleries, studios, restaurants, cafes, theatres and more. The Distillery Historic District opened in 2003 and today is widely regarded as Canada's premier arts, culture and entertainment destination. A place brimming with creativity and creative people, that could inspire dreams, and a place that could help them come true. Was history on my side to revisit this district that actually had a distillery shop onsite that I missed!? PURCHASE(S) (N/A): I spent some money at Old Flame Brewing Co. (read my review of that) but nowhere else, and certainly nothing directly with the facility itself. Of course, you had ample opportunity to spend your money with other businesses or onsite parking, or simply nothing at all as you just hung out. EXPERIENCE I lazily walked throughout the premises as I checked out the storefronts of mostly closed businesses for the night, people-watched, but mainly admired several art displays https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=24&select=1tmuPlZ1LXRKNJC6ViM-vw and enjoyed the nice cool evening weather. SERVICE Besides the employees who worked inside the various businesses and possibly a guard who managed the parking lots, there were no other services available. At this time of night, I didn't see any cleaning crew or security staff - "nuff said. PARKING (Varied; N/A this instance): It was a flat 15-minute walk from my Airbnb. Otherwise, there were both onsite and offsite lots, numerous public transportation options, and rideshares - 'nuff said. Plenty of natural lighting since you were completely outside while a ton of various electric lights and those along the street filled in the rest. OVERALL The Distillery Historic District was very cool, and I would gladly visit it again the next time I was in Toronto. There were so many things to try and take part in given a full day. There were enough varied businesses to spread the money around... or simply just chill. And, I always loved supporting small businesses and efforts whenever possible. I found complete value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $0.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, many of businesses accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 5.0 STARS
Came across the whisky fest and we were thrilled to do the $1 per shot whisky tasting. There were a lot of booths to try and servers were great and chatty. The distillery itself looks super cool with lots of shops and restaurants.
I visited the Distillery Winter Village recently, and it's honestly one of the best ways to get into the holiday spirit! The whole place feels magical with all the lights, decorations, and festive vibes. What I really enjoyed: * The ambiance is amazing--historic buildings, cobblestone streets, and everything lit up like a winter wonderland. It's so cozy and perfect for photos. * The food and drinks were a highlight. I tried the mulled wine (so good!) and some holiday treats. There's also plenty of hot chocolate and other warm drinks if that's more your thing. * The little shops and stalls are great if you're looking for unique gifts or handmade items. It's like a mini European Christmas market. Things to keep in mind: It does get busy, especially on weekends, so try to go on a weekday or earlier in the evening if you can. Overall, it's such a fun experience, whether you're out with friends, family, or even just wandering around on your own. Definitely worth checking out if you want to feel like you're walking through a holiday movie set!
*post same review to other distillery page* This place was cute and extremely quite, which lets me know I went at the wrong time. It was the opposite of everything I was told - vibrant and bustling. So, that's on me for going during the day (early afternoon) versus evening/night time. It was like a ghost town when I arrived, almost eerie but peaceful at the same time, if that makes sense. Shops and stores were open, but they looked closed. I loved the artsy vibe and actual art scattered throughout the walkways. I can imagine how the area would come alive with more people and activities, etc. Next time I am in Toronto, it's at the top of my list to go back!!! And of course, update my review.

The distillery district was quite an experience when we showed up. They had a live band on stage and tons of people walking around. Inside of the area they are many bars/restaurants serving anything from gelato to cookies to Pizza even Mexican food. There are so many choices of places to choose from and even some places to do some shopping. The area was very refreshing to visit and I had a great time.

We went to Pure Spirits which I would highly recommend booking this placplace as there is agood selection of pub foodlike burger and fish & chips and pastaand excellent service! This is a fun, historical area of Toronto that houses many shops, boutiques, restaurants, bars and more. We stopped at one of the bars, got a few beers and something to eat. There were so many choices, it's really meant to cater many different tastes and likes. Most of the places to eat or drink have patios, which is a great advantage during the warm summer nights in Toronto. While we were walking around we saw a Country Music festival going on...with people doing line dancing while others were just enjoying open air concerts. Great place to stroll around.
If you're in Toronto this is a must! Plenty of unique stores and cafes! We visited during the winter so definitely dress warm as you have to walk outside but it's worth it. Some of our favorite stores include: Black bird vintage finds, The sport gallery, wildly delicious. We went earlier in the day but in the evenings they had a seasonal pop up "apres ski" event!
Very historic and charming place to visit in Downtown. Lots of art and shops to visit and during the summer you can even have performances out. Don't go on a time crunch because you definitely would want to stay around to see and explore it all.
I don't get to come down here often, so I really enjoy it when I do. I've been here to have brunch, walk around, and attend events like the Christmas Market (Winter Village). I've always taken the TTC to avoid the hassle of finding parking. I'm not sure how many parking spots there are there or around the area, but I've heard that when there's an event, parking is very hard to find. Part of the charm of the distillery district is the old-world feel of the buildings. It's such a contrast to the rest of the city, with all the concrete and glass skyscrapers. Beware of the cobblestone streets when it rains. There are a lot of puddles!
It's so sad to see that due to COVID-19, we're not having the fun and amazing Christmas Market in Distillery District. But still, no holiday season can go without spending some time here and see the decorations. And definitely, supporting the local businesses. read more

Great place to walk around and hangout. We couldnt find parking though which was such a struggle. I wish they had a parking garage. We found a street parking which was like 5 or more blocks away from here. read more

Cute area when visiting to check out. Lots of different restaurants and shops to pick from. Went on a Saturday night and some of the spots close kinda early surprisingly. It had a good amount of people, but not overly packed which was nice. read more

I haven't been inside any stores/restaurants in the Distillery District, but came here 3x already. Went today to see the TLF (Toronto Light Fest). First time and I loved how a few of them were interactive. There were explanations on some that I saw, maybe I didn't see the others. It was 6 degrees outside but the wind was so cold! I couldn't enjoy it too much because I started getting a brain freeze from the cold. I live in Canada but I don't go out for too long in the winter. Nevertheless it was a lot of fun and I got to see all the lights that they presented. Next time I'll be going in one of the restaurants for sure. My only advice is - If you decide to come here in the winter, DRESS WARM! read more
I came by this place with my boyfriend during the day before going to Pink Sweat's concert. It was my first time visiting! I was so happy and excited. We walked around and took some pictures. It was really windy and cold though. We also went inside this art museum, which is so cool. The christmas tree was huge but it was pretty. Everything was so nice, even though it's in Toronto - it felt like visiting a small village somewhere else. It was such a fun sight-seeing. It's alot more beautiful during the night time as the decorations light up! Would suggest visiting this area sometime if you love village-like environment and christmas season! read more
There's certainly nothing discernibly wrong about this historic area where once functioned the world's largest whiskey distillery. Now forty-plus heritage buildings populate a thirteen-acre urban area lined with brick-paved pedestrian-only lanes barring those irritating scooters. Yet, there's something pre-packaged-feeling about it. Jamie W. and I both felt it the evening we arrived in Toronto and strolled over there. As we expected, there were crowded brewpub restaurants, contemporary art galleries, artisan boutiques, specialty retail stores, and lots of public art positioned for typical Instagram moments (photo: http://bit.ly/2ZblT2J). Feel free to visit as all the online city guides will tell you to go. For us, it was one and done. Ironically I'll be coming back to Toronto for work later this year. Something tells me I'll be back. What's not to like if this tourist area has received a designation as a world heritage site? There are plenty of venues surrounding a backdrop of cobblestone streets and 19th century buildings. The real bonus unlike many Toronto Ontario attractions is that it's pedestrian-only! Pick a restaurant or bar and start enjoying the surroundings or just venture here to sample the many staged performances (pre and post COVID-19) lockdowns. Toronto P street parking availability is good if your are one of the fortunate vehicle owners to find a spot. read more
We came across the DD after hitting up St Lawrence Market District. Great find. We found the best sauces and dipping oils and gourmet items to bring home. Lots of fun signs to get pics with - PEACE and LOVE. Honestly, my fav part on this sunny Saturday was getting pics of us in the district hanging out. We were celebrating my best friend's birthday and we were all about making memories. I know YELP, I have to do a MUCH better job sharing pics in the future....I need help with that and will try to do a better job. That being said, this is what 50 looks like - a hot blonde! read more

Very cool and hipster area to go on dates, catch up with friends, or just hangout. I didn't know there was a place like this until I was searching up places to visit in Toronto since it was my first time in the city back in August but glad I found this place. There's tons of small boutique shops and cafes all throughout The Distillery District and it's unique to see how they're all so different from one another. I would've loved an option to see inside the old distillery but I know that most of it has been converted to these shops. Do yourself a favor and come check this place out if you're ever in the area because it's worth visiting by yourself or with friends/family. Some of the photos that I've added are from various shops throughout and I didn't get a chance to catch the names of the shops so I compiled them all in this review. read more
This is a great place for a stroll anytime of day! Especially now with the huge Christmas tree and decor around its a good time with friends, family and kids. Grab a coffee / snack and have an afternoon in Distillery. Lots of tables to sit and grab food and plenty of parking lots in the area. read more

Absolutely beautiful area. Came during heavy snow and the market wasn't quite open but I can imagine how phenomenally magical it would be when this place is bustling with vendors and people. Can't wait to return read more
National Historic Site of Canada The Distillery District is a charming area with brick-paved streets. I came here early in the morning, before all the restaurants and stores were open. That was ok with me, as I was able to stroll around without the crowds. What I enjoyed most was the love locks - great photo op. read more
Rustic, Contemporary and trendy vibes all over the place.Great place for dates or for hanging out with family/friends.The whole place gives a vintage feel and filled with great cafes and boutiques. There is lot of artwork around . So make sure you stroll around sipping some coffee. Good place for photoshoots as well. Street parking available and some parking spots with in 10 min walk. Distill bothering you? Or are you over it now? A wonderful old industrial part of Toronto near the lakeshore, just East of downtown. Pretty and full of new up and coming hipster businesses, they have a winter market here, and the highlight of the neighbourhood is the Brick St Bakery. It's a little chilly here in winter with the wind whipping up and down the cobble streets, and parking is an absolute nightmare. Still a really nice neighbourhood to spend some time in and get some snacks. read more
So... my husband and I checked this place when they had the Toronto Christmas Light Festival in December and it was SUPER BUSY then. It was fun with a lot of small venders outside selling chocolates and winter stuff. We came back today (March), and the place is so dead! The very first thing we noticed was it was hard to spot people on the streets for one, and all the small venders were not there anymore. :( Also the shops have a lot less variety was items in their stores since it's not the holiday season... it's still a fun place to walk around and it's probably busier in the summer, but I think on average, it's an A-Okay. read more
The Distillery District is in the space that was formerly known as Gooderham and Worts (once the largest distiller of alcoholic beverages in Canada). Let's slow that down and pause on those last names for a moment. Wow, those would officially be on my not-changing-my-maiden-name-to-your-name-no-way-sorry-baby list. ANYWAY, about 10 years ago, developers reconstructed and repurposed all of these buildings into a place of magic and wonder now known as The Distillery or 55 Mill. When I walked through the 55 Mill gates, there was a segway tour happening with very happy people buzzing by, which paralyzed me a little bit. By the time I got it together enough to take the above photo without the gate in the way, the segway tour had scurried off, but there were still a ton of other happy people muddling around. Whether they were shopping, eating or drinking, EVERYONE was in a good mood. So, I went to find my happiness and YOU KNOW where it was: Soma Chocolatemaker (Building 47). Obviously, there was an immediate and powerful chocolate smell, which was like running into a wall of chocolate. It is a CHOCOLATE LABORATORY with flavors like Almond Cluster Dark Peruvian, Pecan Butter Crunch, and Beurre Noisette. There is no bad at Soma. It was here I had a Bicerin for the first time. A Bicerin (Bee-Cha-Ring) is an amazing Italian drink with melted chocolate, espresso, and whipped cream. It is like the best mocha you have ever had. If you come here, pick up treats for yourself and treats for others. You won't regret it. After buying my own large bag of treats and sipping my Bicerin, I was starting to understand why everyone around me was happy. In my merry haze, I stumbled into the store across the street: Jacob and Sebastian (27 Tank House Lane). Jacob and Sebastian is like the older, richer, fabulous cousin of Sephora... and I LOVE Sephora. The store itself is simple- white walls, simple lighting- and the perfume and cosmetics on each shelf are beautifully merchandised. They have Savon de Marseilles liquids, Malin + Goetz, Mario Badescu Skin Care, ihateperfume, and Muhle Shaving Co. accessories. I just wanted everything. PLUS, they had fantastic music. I heard a Miguel song I have never heard (that I am now addicted to) and another by the band Daughter. Delightful. At Bergo Designs (55 Mill, Next to Soma and Jacob and Sebastian), there were kitchen and home items, watches, jewelry and other other assorted pieces. Just a lot of metallic and shiny well-built things. Oh, and there was Chilewich. There is ALWAYS Chilewich. That should be embroidered on a pillow that sits on every design student's bed or should turned into some pin-able representation. 55 Mill has some great food options as well, but I am just going to talk about one: Brick Street Bakery (55 Mill, To The Left Just As You Pass Through The 55 Mill Gate). With many sandwich options broken out for you into two camps (cold and warm), you can't go wrong no matter what you choose. I read some Yelp reviews while in line and they recommended EVERY sandwich on the menu. I committed to the tuna, which was a large sandwich I could have easily shared with someone else. The sandwiches are on the slightly expensive side to not come with chips, soup, or a salad- but they are so good that you won't care. There is limited outdoor seating, although I found a spot quickly. Even if you end up walking around, it is STILL The Distillery. Absorb your surroundings and be happy. Before I create too much distance between me and Brick Street Bakery, I should highlight their awesome baked goods (go figure, right?). They are just SO yummy! I had a tart that was incredible. There are so many other places to take in here: Pure Spirits Oyster Bar, Lileo, Blue Dot Gallery, for example. You should definitely plan to spend a chunk of time exploring and absorbing. Whatever you do here will make you happy. Promise. read more

I love the Distillery District!! Yes it is Touristy! Yes it is Overpriced! Yes it can be so Tacky! But it is so pet friendly! It was a sight to see some of the dog were sharing a brunch with their owners at the seating area for The Sweet Escape! Most of the stores down at the Distillery District does welcome small/petite size dogs... thanks so much for letting our little furry friends in.. so we can do some shopping/browsing together! OK, yes I too love the set up and the old rustic buildings in the Distillery District. Now when is it going to be nice and sunny?!! read more
If you ever want to see Old Toronto and love alcohol, The Distillery District is the perfect place to "elegantly" get drunk. The Distillery District is a whole lot like South Street Seaport in New York--lots of bars, remnants from centuries ago, lots of kiosks and lots of "entertainment." This is a great place to escape downtown nightlife madness but it's also very touristy and very hipster-ish. I don't see much of city remnants from centuries ago and this is considered a gem because shows so much, from the looks of it. There are a lot of boutique clothing shops and definitely a lot of souvenir shops, as expected since it is a tourist spot with a very Tuscany-like setting. Great place to take a walk around and be sure to stop by SOMA for some chocolate and gelato! read more
This is a former distillery factory-turned art district, with many interesting statues and art galleries. It's just a short walk from St. Lawrence Market, so my friend and I grabbed some grub to go from there before strolling through the distillery district. There are a lot of interesting pieces of art throughout the area, but when we visited (mid May, a Saturday), we noticed some of the statues were covered up. I wonder if they protect the outdoor artwork from certain weather conditions, although weather conditions were good when we visited. I really enjoyed exploring all the fun shops and cute restaurants. Give yourself a good 2-3 hours if you want to really look at everything. We were also lucky to attend a free concert (SING!) that was going on when we walked by. My personal favorite was the Artscape Distillery Studios, which is a space dedicated to artists working on various subjects of art. I spent a good chunk of time just admiring (and purchasing) some of the more affordable artwork on a grad student budget. Overall, it was a fun experience, and I would definitely recommend this to anyone planning a trip to Toronto. read more
The Distillery District should definitely be added on your list of things to do if in the Toronto area. Located down the road from St.Lawrence market, it gives you the vibe of an old town market. The cobblestone paths with cute little shops and eateries add to the charm. There is artwork scattered throughout. For the selfie enthusiast there are many cute photo opportunities located throughout. As far as parking goes, I'm not to sure as far as many spots available. Public transportation would be my recommendation on getting here and not worrying about parking. There is multiple places to sit throughout and enjoy time with loved ones and friends. There is also multiple places to grab a sweet treat, a bite to eat, or a tasty beverage. I'm looking forward to coming back and showing friends around this neat lil piece of Toronto. read more

Winter, Summer, Spring or Fall. Any time of the year is a perfect time to visit The Distillery District! I normally pop into The Distillery District when the Christmas market comes along but I thought why not just take a stroll through tonight. We popped in for some Mexican food at El Catrin and walked around for an hour or so. This time around they had lightened up body figures around the distillery which I thought was neat! If you're looking to go for a nice summer walk with your friends or s/o or want to grab some food and drinks, I'd recommend checking out The Distillery District !! read more
