Beautiful view restaurant of world heritage site harbor. Waitress recommended scallops, pointed out the boat that brought them in and explained that lobster was overpriced this time of year. (They should give her a raise). The scallops were indeed wonderfully fresh and delicious. The seafood chowder was packed. I didn't feel rushed, and I enjoyed a delightful Nova Scotia white wine too. I should have read the reviews regarding service before we made this choice. It started out great - our waitress was friendly - we were able to get a spot on the patio (beautiful view). I ordered the Surf & Turf (steak medium rare). Our waitress check on us about a minute or two after our food arrived to see how it was - at that point it was great! I had only barely started cracking the lobster claw. Once I cut into my steak it was completely brown - far from medium rare. I tried a couple of bites in the hopes that I could just deal, but a well-done steak is not for me. I hate complaining about food and can't remember the last time I did (years and years ago), so was patiently waiting for our waitress to re-check on us - I didn't want to be rude by calling someone over so we patiently waited. Our waitress ultimately passed by our table 3 more times (to check on another table - while not even glancing in our direction). Finally I had to call her over as at that point all of our meals were done and she still hadn't rechecked on us (by the way it was NOT busy - a Monday night) - I had eaten my plate (other than the steak). I told her I had ordered the steak medium rare but this one was well done - her response: "OK?". She then quickly cleared our plates and said she'll get the manager to take some $ off (nothing else said). We got the bill with $15 removed off a $50 plate. I decided to talk to the manager before leaving to share my experience - this wasn't about money - this was disappointing - we had one night in Lunenburg and we had high hopes and I was leaving hungry. Upon starting to explain my experience - he decided rather than to listen to argue and tell me he checked the steak himself and it was cooked medium rare " there were "squishy" parts and pink in the middle - I wish I had pictures, but the entire thing was brown - absolutely 0 pink! I even told him to got get it.... I never asked for money off - I just wanted the meal I ordered and didn't want to be leaving hungry. I then proceeded to tell him about my experience with the waitress: her passing us by 3 times to check on another table that arrived well after us all while not even glancing our direction as she walked by. By the time I finally felt forced to have to call her over, our entire meals were done (save the steak) and our experience already severely damaged. Instead of listening and apologizing I was told "I should have said 'excuse me' to the waitress during one of the 3 times she walked by - so basically it's my fault. He also told me they could have cooked another steak - which I proceeded to tell him I was never even given that option. I have never had a MANAGER act so defensively when hearing about the poor experience of a customer and on top of that essential call me a liar, telling me the steak was cooked properly. To top it all off - as I am paying the bill I hear his staff in the background saying ".....some people are just never satisfied". Absolutely disgusting behavior by the staff at this restaurant. There are MANY options within steps of this restaurant - I am sorely disappointed that we chose this one - I hope you chose another. Our one night in Lunenburg was soured by The Dockside Restaurant. read more

The fries were decent. The waitress was nice - she knew the food was terrible so didn't ask how it was. Don't go there. We had wanted to go to The Knot but it had a huge line. The better restaurants in Lunenburg had up to a 90 minute wait, understandable on a beautiful Sunday afternoon of the August long weekend. So we were pretty excited to walk in The Dockside and get a table on the patio overlooking the waterfront. That was our first clue! Decor is tired and dated, no attempt to modernize it. Service was pretty slow even though it seemed they had lots of staff and it wasn't very busy. However, the beer was cold, menu is pretty broad, and the prices are reasonable. I had the mussels, a large portion but over cooked. The small garden salad was reasonable, however the dressing arrived about 10 minutes after it was served. Generally, things were just ok. The location would support a much nicer place but it seems the owners are happy as it is. I'd go back, but only as a last resort. Lunenburg has some great places, this really isn't one of them. read more

We had an excellent meal when we walked in by chance on Valentine's Day weekend. The food was very good. Scallops and bacon were both perfectly cooked. The seafood platter was beautiful, plentiful and very reasonable. The mashed potatoes and vegetables were home cooked and delicious. The star dessert for me was the awesome peanut butter pie. We arrived too late for breakfast (11:20 am) which seems kinda dumb, if you ask me. So I had soup de jour and a blt and fries. Hubs had onion soup and a lobster sandwich and fries. The lobster sandwich was 25 bucks but he really enjoyed it. The blt was good. Overall we felt that the service was fantastic. Very friendly staff and attentive but not annoying. My family was here on a beautiful sunny day - we were attracted by the great patio space. Don't make the same mistake we did! Below-average food. Our mussel appetizer was tough (we suspect they get cooked beforehand and are reheated). Chowder was bland. Burger was drenched in mustard, an 18$ Cajun shrimp plate was also bland, rice tasted like it was made from a package, vegetables likewise looked and tasted like they were canned. Canned vegetables in the middle of summer, guys. Service was friendly and the food arrived quickly, but that's really all that's positive that can be said about this place. Avoid! read more

I will give 5 star for the scallop plate. It is so fresh and come with 10 pieces of big scallop with on 17$. Other menu is average for this kind of restaurant. Not much fancy option and quite old family style. Good service , good view but everything in the restaurant looks old. They have a fresh lobster in front of the shop which make us come inside for the lobster. But no one order the lobster because too pricy. 29.99/ ilb for fresh lobster and 32.99 for tail. We can find other place with 10$ cheaper. We also order the cajun shrimp with rice , it taste okay, not much fantasy. The steam oyster is good and cheap too . ( 9$/ ilb) nice garlic butter sauce . We order shrimp Cajun with rice . Calm and chip, scallop with potato plate and steam mussel. Total 64$ - the cheapest meal we have in this couple day. Stopped in here for some food as it started to down pour. I ordered the seafood feast in which everything was over cooked! The fresh rolls ? were heated in a microwave! Ginger Ale was flat and syrupy! The small piece of fish and salmon did not taste fresh but more like from a freezer! I will say this the waitresses were very friendly and the fries were good! Went for breakfast. It was great. Staff are friendly and funny too. I enjoyed their breakfast potatoes they are hand cut slices of potato. Everything seems to be "home made" here. There are beautiful paintings on the walls and they have and amazing deck which has the most beautiful view of the water. read more

We completely enjoyed our meal here. The service was very good. The setting is informal. You can have the option to set outside or inside. Price was average for a tourist town. Expected. We had the grilled haddock dinner, clams (digby) & chips and the large fish & chips. Very fresh, nothing frozen and probably the best clams I have had in a restaurant. My husband and I ate here on a Sunday in December when almost all other restaurants were closed. The setting is fantastic with a patio that overlooks the wharf (when in use). The walls inside are decorated with murals of Lunenburg which gives it a nice local fishing village vibe but unfortunately the tables and chairs and place settings are very basic and dated. The service was very prompt but we were the only ones there. The mussels, scallop special and fish and chips were all decent and our wine glasses were filled to the rim! The prices are reasonable but we did not try the more pricey lobster. Overall made for a satisfying experience. read more

The lobster sandwich was basically two pieces of Wonder Bread with A LOT OF MAYO and some lobster meat... barely any. All I tasted was bread and mayo. The sandwich was 25$. You probably can get the same (and probably better) lobster sandwiches from Sobeys for $7.99. Overpriced and poor quality. read more

I would give this place less than zero if I could. Absolutely disgusting treatment of my dear friend on a recent visit. After walking around Lunenburg and enjoying the sights we were very hot and looking for s nice place to sit down for dinner. My friend was showing signs of heat exhaustion so cooling down was important. Upon entering the Dockside we were told they couldn't seat us and to go outside. When my friend stated she was hot and could she just stay there a minute she was rudely told no. Not even for a minute, and that she was blocking the fire exit and other patrons. None of which was true. Nicole Chambers is the peach of a employee there. Rude as hell, even made comments about my friend. She was loud enough for the whole restaurant and people outside to hear when we returned to get the owners name and number. When asked to stop making comments about patrons she got even louder, stating her full name and saying she didn't care if we reported her. It's a family restaurant and my 6 yr old niece got to witness this! Shameful, save your money and eat elsewhere the food is overpriced anyway. read more

If you want a beautiful view while dining, and don't particularly care about the food quality, do try the Dockside Restaurant. We had a table on the porch on a warm, clear evening, overlooking the bay. Our meals, though, were less than stellar. My Caesar salad had little resemblance to an actual Caesar salad. It had romaine lettuce and caesar dressing, but that is where the similarity ended. It had flavorless mozzarella-like cheese and soggy little boxed croutons. Mine was topped with unseasoned boiled lumps of white meat chicken. At first I thought it might be some kind of manufactured chicken product. My partner's salad arrived topped with boiled or steamed shrimp, which were large and fresh, but again totally unseasoned. We are accustomed to grilled chicken/shrimp as salad toppings, so this was a surprise. The service was pretty slow, though enjoying the fantastic view made it easier. We were a group of 6, so we were not surprised when two tables who came in after us were served before us, but still...Our server disappeared for long periods of time, and seemed defensive when we asked for things. 6 meals ordered... all fabulous!! The grilled haddock was the best I've had in this area so far. The Cajun shrimp was another favorite at the table. Tuna club, first ever, and the burger were all good as well. The missing star is for the decor. Could use some updating on the inside although it seems to be a family restaurant. The deck is awesome but unfortunately rain kept us inside (it is on the water). Beer is very cold which I mention because some local pubs were on the less cold side. On to dessert...apple pie like grandma used to make, carrot cake and coconut cream pie - all homemade...YUM! Great choice for food!
