Nice dog park. This has two sides, but are both open to the water. Some dogs were running and playing and would shoot thru the water from one side and into the other side of the park. This did not bother us, but may others. There was a water fountain and bottle refilling station but no water so it was pointless. There was also little stations that used to have poop bags, but were empty. The park was clean and spacious.

This is the new dog park at Shelby Lake. It's next to the old location but bigger, improved and lots of amenities. It's nice!

I was sad to see this dog park and surrounding area devasted by hurricane Sally but the relocation nearby and all new facility is an excellent addition for our furbabies. This new lake side dog park at Gulf State Park's Lake Shelby has covered benches with overhead fans and fenced areas for large and small dogs, however currently dogs can navigate around the fence near the water, be advised. There's picnic tables around the park and newly constructed restrooms facilities are within the Lake Shelby picnic area, just a short walk from the dog park. In the old park there was an agility course with hoops and tubes but that hasn't been installed here as of this post. Lake Shelby is home to a big varity of wildlife including bald eagles, heron, pelicans, crabs, and a plethora of animals including alligators, that's right alligators! When I first noticed the signs "alligators present" I was apprehensive, to say the least, but apparently it doesn't bother a lot of other puppy parents because there's lots of folks who utilize this park regularly. I see dogs frolicking in and out the water all the time and my only comment beyond that is to please be aware at all times. There's a large waterfront enclosed area, divided by a center fence with drinking fountains for people and pooches with poop bags provided. The basic rules are clearly displayed upon entering the area: Dogs must be current on all vaccinations. Dogs must be leashed when entering and exiting the dog park. Aggressive dogs aren't permitted on the premises. For a full listing of rules and regs here see: https://www.alapark.com/parks/gulf-state-park/dog-pond-lake-shelby I have a big issue as of late November 2021 that precipitated our immediate exit from this park. There was a sign on the entrance gate stating "Attention: Sand Spurs in Dog Park". We weren't familiar with sand spurs but we soon found out that they're uncomfortable for puppies. For others not familiar these nasty little prickly pests aka buffelgrasses and sandburs are spine-covered burrs that stick to practically everything they touch, especially fur and clothing, ouch. I can only assume, and hope, that the parks will deal with this menace in short order because our cockers cannot tolerate them on their paws. Bottom line: This is a lovely dog park that's picturesque and is a great resource and I look forward to the continued developments.

Sand spurs, not enough poop stations, muddy at gate. They should check out Foley dog park if they want to know how to do it.

That being said, this park is close by and I've been here with #1 daughter's two sweet cockers (out grandpuppies :-) and with friends and neighbors so I'm go here from m time to take me. Here's some big news today (August 2, 2021) The City of Gulf Shores has noticed an increase in personal chairs and belongings being brought in and left at the dog park. For the safety and enjoyment of our park users, we are going to install permanent park benches. Moving forward, in order to adequately maintain the dog park, we ask that all personal items, including chairs, be removed from the dog park DAILY. We are committed to providing a beautiful, safe, and well-maintained facility for our residents and pets. All items left in the park after August 13th will be removed and disposed of. Our fence still has some damage from Hurricane Sally, but be on the lookout for repairs to that soon! #LeaveOnlyPawPrints Bottom line: It's a great little doggie park but yo can start leaving your chairs at home and if you've left one here, come got it.

One small thing is I wish there was lighting when it was getting dark. It's probably closed after dark but sometimes you gotta burn a little doggie energy off before bed and it's pitch black out there. We were just visiting from out of town but we went twice a day fir the whole trip! We miss this park!

We found this dog beach on Yelp and decided to take a little detour. There was plenty of parking and a green space, as well as a government building of some sort, and then the fenced off dog beach. Unfortunately once we were walking towards the beach, we saw multiple signs saying that the park was closed. However, there were at least a dozen locals with their dogs inside the enclosed area, so we decided to go in anyway. The atmosphere was welcoming and the dogs were all having a great time sniffing, splashing and chasing balls and each other. There was one covered area for shade and a bench but not too many places for people to sit inside the dog beach. Outside the fenced area, however, there are some tables that are shaded by trees and the building closest to the beach does have a restroom inside if you need one. It felt a little weird to walk past the closed sign to get into the park and I'm still not really sure why those signs were up. We did ask two different people inside the park and they said they just ignore them. When in Rome right? It was a little confusing and I don't know if they were doing a renovation or some sort of update but once we were inside the friendliness of the people and the dogs made up for it and we just enjoyed the atmosphere for a while until our pop was ready to go. If you're in the area with your dog, this might be a gamble but it was a good stop for us. Even if your dog doesn't like the water (ours really gets in) there is still a sandy area where they can run around and play. The community is also welcoming so it's good for socialization. I would definitely stop here again.

So I got an extra point for that alone!! It was the culmination of a two-year journey through well over 1000 dog parks that she took me on, so I could really see the love and forgiveness in action. This park has just about anything and everything you could want. From what appears to be a complete Forest up in the back corner too wide open area for them to run in and the rest of the park. There are plenty of water faucets and poop bag dispensers and trash cans and trees and places to sit. The people were more than friendly and the dogs all had a great time!! The Gated entry is very easy to use and has a concrete slab. There is also a nice concrete pathway that takes you out to the sitting area so if you have Mobility difficulties or are in a wheelchair, you can easily make it out to the seating area. All the wood benches have nicely carved memorials in them. The small dog park is bigger than most big dog parks. My only question would be, who decided putting the squirrel feeder right in the middle of the dog park was a good idea, don't get me wrong, I love it!! I'm just not sure the squirrels knew what they were in for when they headed down into it to get a nut!! Anyway this park is absolutely incredible and a very fitting park for us to launch the animal rescue charity!!
